In today's video, I talk about my experience with open try-outs, open trials, open combines, open ID Camps, open tours, open whatever. I talk about if they are a scam and a waste of money OR if they can actually help players jump start their professional careers.
I have attended them all and have had mix feelings over the years about open trials, but I really believe that they can be beneficial if you are looking for the right things and understand what is going through the scouts or coaches heads.
So listen up to today's Twelve Minute Tuesday and learn about a professional soccer player or professional footballers perspective of open trials and try-outs and if they are worth it or not!
Essentially we are following Matt Sheldon's daily schedule. Showing you his exact soccer training sessions, his workouts, his weight lifting/weight training programs, his diet/nutrition, and mentality as he progresses through his first professional offseason. We want you guys, to be able to learn, be inspired by these videos, to gather information from quality professional level training sessions and to apply this knowledge to your own life.

It takes time. My best advice as a 21 year old with 0 college years played BUT with 4 years of eligibility to play. Do as many open try-outs. I get paid a reasonable amount of money playing locally. Up to 4 games a weekend sometimes up to 250$ a weekend that the coaches pay for me to show up. Now, I've played everywhere and have gained a lot of experience. Open tryouts were hard for me because they always look at your profile to see what teams you've played for. I've been turned down multiple times but also accepted. You do not fail until you quit. Keep moving forward.

All try out are worth it , if you are not selected, you experienced a different environment that is closer to where you wanna be. If you are scouted and picked up than it is definitely worth it.

@@alisafeerhyder1994 ive never been at a youth academy and have always been too shy to try out, but ik i have some technical ability. Ik there is A LOT of improvement that i can go through by working hard, but im 17 years old rn. Lets just say i take 2 years to flourish and improve my talents. Would you say that i have a chance at being selected at a trial even though i guess i dont have that expected background of youth academy and i am considered "older" for beginning a professional career in the sport?

@@danielaguilar4735 you can be selected regardless if you've played academy or not. Theirs so many different outlets into being a profession football player but theirs multiple factors that play into it. Aside from training your absolute best, eating right, resting, etc... you also need to market yourself. In the end you are your own business and they are looking for a product. Do more than what's done on the pitch, work on yourself outside the pitch as well. Go to any try out you can, tourney's, leagues, meet up with coaches, scouts, even if its a quick intro, make them remember you.

    • @danielaguilar4735

@@chris_breezy4961 wow man that was very inspirational bro. As a matter of fact, the varsity try outs are at the end of the month, but here in El Paso, I believe we are the #1 leading covid 19 active and rising cases in all of the US. That being said, I'm not even sure if there will be tryouts being held at all, but even if there were, it's highly unlikely that my parents would let me go seeing the situation in the city. I have a separate question. Regarding meeting up with important people in the business including coaches and scouts, or attending tournaments, how would I approach an opportunity like that, or figure out if these things even happen, especially where I live, because it's not a very eventful place, not many important events happen here, so what would you recommend?

    • @chris_breezy4961
      @chris_breezy4961 Před 3 lety +1

@@danielaguilar4735 im actually working on a business with my brother to help players see more than just what happens on the pitch. Theirs a lot that happens outside the pitch that has a lot of motions, not just a try out. Be willing to travel, find a way to make it work. I’ve know players who would go out of state for a tryout, join a league(get yourself playing no matter what level of competition it is, as long as you keep yourself moving and healthy), find academies or clubs and ask when’s the next try out or what players they like to see. Ask if they would host a tournament or even if you help out with volunteering, you’re putting yourself out there. Give them your name, info, and email so you’ll at least have some recognition. Find an agent, host your own pick up games, invite players that are in clubs or academies and see how well you do. I can keep going but theirs many other things or factors that help lead you into a better position to be noticed. Follow carrasgoal on IG, check out the website and send a message through dm

I quit playing altogether at 16 when i was the new kid in the new town, the only freshman to make varsity, and they had no idea who i was. I got hazed really badly and quit. Fast forward five years later and having partied my brains away, I committed myself and within eight months got myself in tip top shape, started practicing with a team of guys who were older than me and had been through the ringer in Europe as teenagers/early 20s. They had connections to the pro team near me at the time, Atlanta Ruckus, and a sort of try out was set up for me. After warm ups and drills, we played a 10 v 10 on a half pitch. I checked out for a minute mentally and got tackled and injured. It was really intense. Even though I knew I wouldn't be coming back, they were all really supportive and told me I was welcome to keep training with them.

Hey man. Great video. As someone who was dying to play for a club, I’ve seen this firsthand. I made some poor-decisions when it comes to putting my money where the value truly is. But as I went down the pecking order of clubs, I saw that some clubs weren’t as interested in looking at players and just threw us out onto the field to play or give their guys some late winter warmups.
However, what you said is absolutely right. You do get exposure just being there. The coaches and assistants are all watching; even some news stations cover the open trials.
Anyway, this may be my last round at giving this a go, which feels really heartbreaking, but that’s the nature of putting yourself out there I guess. I hope you find success and I hope you stay healthy and fit. I know you can do it.

There's scouts watching at most games. You just never see or know them but trust me they are there. If you are good enough you'll get scouted. Most open trials are just for money but if a scout is at a game that means there are looking for a player. But a lot of open trials are a great experience. Went to an open trial last year and didn't get any offers but in the past month I've had offers from Newcastle, Manchester City and had several D1 scholarships. Moral of the story, you don't need open trials but they are good if you're good enough you'll get scouted from a game. Like Matt said sometimes there is that 1 diamond out of a million that hasn't been spotted at a game yet and in that case open trials are brilliant. Just my opinion. Play well, work hard and if your good enough you won't need any open trials :)

I have a trial with the la galaxy 2 looking at how the galaxy are struggling defensively and missing the play offs , and also struggling with the usl for their reserve team do you think they would be looking to recruit from the tryout I’m gonna be attending in 3 days

I hope you are joking, First teams in the US, will never look for open trials to strength their team, they have scouting team that look for current pro's not people who are free agents and never played even semi pro in their life.
If you really think that trialing with La galaxy 2 will get you to the 1st team, you are either dumb, or someone is tricking you into thinking that.
The system is so bad in the US, that people think that pro's get recruited from open trials. LOL open trials are for desperate people, people who want to get maximum semi pro contract if they get extremely lucky and they are extremely good.

Can someone please explain why, or tell me their story on how ones performance vary so much as mine. My ups are so much better than my downs, or the other way around. In some trainings I feel comfortable playing to my full potential, and my coaches compliment me afterwards. But in other trainings I just don't have it, i feel unfocused or something. I hate it

For all of you who want to be a pro it depends on your age for example the best way to be pro is to get yourself to professional club academy at age 13,14,15,16,17 at age 16 you have to be in their youth team & at age 18 if you are really talented and playing good football the club will give you a pro contract and your career begins then the real hard work begins you Learn develop and you can be one of the best and play for the best teams. Am 15 i play in academy that's the way it always work you need to work hard every single day to get better it doesn't matter where you are doesn't matter where you live Good luck guys .
