I always suspected this. Good to see at the end where this geezer says that if you're not a pro you should be doing far more. I'm always baffled when you see Jurgen Klopp (Today) banging on about how knackered they are. What the play a game where they're active for 90 mins most of the time and the work-load is shared between 11 or more of them dependent on the substitution. Then if you watch, a lot of the time in the 90 mins they're not actually running, they're walking? So, then I thought, OK so being that young and fit, the games not going to get you knackered, it's got to be the training.... Seemingly not? Maybe they need to take up Tennis or Surfing to get some perspective or test cricket?

The differing levels of poker and chess are the same. The margins get smaller the higher you go. And you underestimate how hard it gets and overestimate your own talents and abilities. Many people who play poker and can beat their home game think they can cut it in the casino but are surprised when they get their ass kicked by rounders like myself. Or many rounders who can beat their local casino game are shocked when they play in Vegas on holiday and bust their bankroll in a few hours. For example many of my friends who were quite good at football when younger and felt like they could have played in the premier league. Only a few of them made it into professional football ending up in third and fourth tier leagues and believe me they were good. My cousin was one of the best players in my hometown and made it to a premier league club but even then couldn't get regular football in the first team because of the standard.

It is interesting. I met Michael Parkhurst one time. He played for Atlanta United. He said the hardest thing about being a professional soccer player is staying self-motivated in the off-season to get your body ready for the season, when you don't have the money to pay for the best personal trainers and nutritionists, as you would if you were in a sport that pays millions of dollars. At the college level, he said much of the preparation is done collectively in the off-season as a team, but as a professional, you are responsible for doing all of that on your own... where is it used to be you would use training camp to get in shape, now you're expected to be in shape when you get there

Basically based on these stats and criteria in this vid overall MLS is below the Championship but a bit better than League 1, and USLC is just below League 2. But if we compare the style of football played and the differences in physicality, pace, and tempo, American clubs are not comparable at all. So if we were to take the best Championship clubs and play them in a serious game against the best MLS clubs, MLS would get blown out of the water. This argument is also pretty easy to support because old players from European leagues go to MLS and have an easy time playing there even thou their age means they should be outpaced and out muscled by the younger players of MLS but they aren't.

I was in the RAF and in the early 90’s we played a friendly against Doncaster Rovers. As a team we were extremely fit guys and we had a couple of RAF PT Instructors play and train us. We won the friendly 3-2 but this was at the beginning of their season and we had played about 7 or 8 games already. We played another game about 2 or 3 weeks later and they destroyed us. It was something crazy like 3 or 4 nil and it was possibly the hardest I’ve ever worked on a pitch. And these guys were in the fourth tier of English football. Two great games but a real eye opener on how good even fourth tier players are.

The National league in England would shock a few Clubs in the MLS let alone league 2 bottom half of or middle of League One. Watched plenty of football though the leagues.

MLS bar maybe a couple teams WOULD NOT compete in the English Championship and that's a fact. Your deluded if you think otherwise. Most of the MLS would fit nicely in EFL league 2 or maybe lower table of league 1.

MLS would be somewhere between League 1 and League 2. Definitely not anywhere near Championship.

I think the MLS as a whole probably sits just below the championship as a whole (with teams overlapping), but the USLC is probably much closer to league 2 than league 1.
