Just did this yesterday , replaced the hoses and belts too. I also used Felpro gaskets and not those cheap ones that come with the pump

These videos are really good. Thanks. I replaced the upper radiator hose two weeks ago and now going to replace both the water pump and thermostat with O’Reilly parts.

I like the video, however my leak is coming from the oring located under the silver circular plate on the back of the pump. On some chevys there are bolts securing this plate but on my 2006 there are no bolts. Do I pry the cover off or I'm I over looking something ?

While you're there might wanna clean the throttle body and perform a relearn procedure on that. Also if you top the coolant off and you have heat from the vents at idle. You do not have air pocket in the cooling system. Great videos though. Thank you

Why do I need to disconnect the negative battery cable? When putting gasket sealant for pump and thermostat, what is the best way? Sealant on pump side only or both sides of gasket for pump and thermostat?

For this you would put any sealant anywhere. This is an assembly replacement and they come with gaskets

Can you wire brush the block when the pump meets the block? I’m seeing everyone use a razor blade? I’m not sure I’m getting a good seal, I put the pump on then started leaking as I was pouring in antifreeze, I used silicone and the paper gasket I’m guessing that’s my issue I’m redoing the job with metal gaskets and no silicone

Does the idler pulley have bearings and can these bearings go bad I have another so winning noise and not so screeching noise I guess you would call it howling noise but I tested each pull-on the front of engineand only one pully was hot the idler pulls by old school testing by stick I determined the idler pulls is possibly the culprit my question is can these go bad and if so what does that mean about the water pump should I replace both or just the one

Make sure you get a mechanics stethoscope to be sure that's where the problem is I had my problem on the power steering pump pulley. The bearing had went bad and I was getting a terrible whining noise especially during cold days in the morning when I started my truck. As for your question... I believe that they do have bearings on the idler pulleys. I think you can pop it out on the idler pulley but don't quote me on that however idler pulleys are so cheap anyway you're better off just replacing the whole thing and saving the time and frustration.

thanks for the reply I put the red rtv sealant I had to drive a couple minutes and put everything back together but then started having a leak the water pump gasket. so I assume I'm going to have to redo it in the morning maybe get new gaskets and no sealant.

Too bad you don’t sell the paper style gaskets separate from the pump.
