Had my first ride in my new Met Trenta in green/gold today, one of the best helmets I've ever had. The retention like you say is absolutely brilliant, the fit around the head is second to none!

bald guy here - been riding Specialized helmets with MIPs for six-ish years. I like them a lot. I cracked one recently in a crash that gave me a concussion and 48 hours of memory loss. I hope Specialized still makes the model I have, or one very close to it. I have a narrow and long head, so it's difficult to find a good fit. MIPs is a must have.

Perhaps the best helmet i have ever worn or owned came from a kask protone but i was getting hot spots ordered a lazer g1 kineticore was too big in a small🤷saw this video got my hands on a met trenta mips not even the carbon 3k and the moment i tried it on i was like wow got my first 56 mile ride this weekend i did not even feel it on simply the best helmet for me thanks again🙏💪

Sorry about your crash. With all the rain we’ve had I’m watching out for wash-out gravel/dirt on roads. I love the Lazer helmets but I still have a ponytail.
I buy helmets based on comfort and feel mips is a plus but not necessary.

Yes there has been plenty of loose gravel and fallen rock in our rural roads with all the rain we had during winter and spring.

Don't care about MIPS after reading Snell study where they put a wig on the dummy and the benefit of MIPS went away.
Basically charging you for something you (probably) already have, slip plane called hair 😁 In fact, I prefer non-MIPS because hair gets caught in that liner, but they are getting harder to find. I didn't like Kineticore because the inside felt lumpy, and I think they are shaped for small cranium heads on the inside.

Good video George, I’ve been looking into a new helmet and the MET and Abus are both on my short list. MIPS is new for me so a plus as long as it keep price in my range. I do like the way the aero helmet looks though and since 99% of my riding will be early morning over heating shouldn’t be a problem.

I use a MET Crossover with MIPS, + standard back light and front light from XLC. L/XL version. I like their style, safety and feel. Last not least their colors are nicer than other helmets. So all over designs are nice. But that might be a taste thing. @.o ... MIPS Multiple Impact Protection System. What MIPS is designed for is hand the helmet and the brain an in between layer where your head will experience less torque and friction during an impact, of which most come from multiple sides and multiple impacts.
And during that event with the MIPS system one is better protecting their head, against injure and long term injuries. The system is scientifically tested and proves it's value. What I do like to stress is every time you and your helmet crush into something, trust them once, never twice. Want to hand them a second chance, than buy the same helmet again. There is more closed ones for winter and end years, and more open ones for summer and sunny trips. Buying a helmet obviously is most handy doing such in a store so you can try on multiple kinds. And get it to fit right, and look good, before you launch.
Some people like me have multiple helmets, because well,...sometimes I wear jeans, sometimes more neat to work, etc...gotta look right! Specially in a mid life crisis... :D

I have the Met Manta, their aero helmet. It seems the older version of the Manta was made for oval heads but this new version fits my round head comfortably. I'm under the impression that Met did exactly what you said, they played with the fitment mechanics to better accomodate different head shapes.

@@SeeYouUpTheRoad Regarding the MIPS system. From my understanding as a physicist it is to dampen angular/rotational forces which has been shown to be one of the main causes of brain injury. I believe they studied boxing matches from which brain injuries resulted. At least on the physics front I am quite confident it serves a purpose, certainly doesn't seem like a gimic.

MIPS is less of a consideration for me. Sunglass dock is a primary consideration. I recently switched to a Lazer G1 and I love how easy it is to park my sunnies with just one hand. The MIPS liner sometimes snags my sunglasses arm if I didn't park properly. I was surprised there wasn't a G1 this summer made from Kinetecore

    • @dominicbritt
      @dominicbritt Před 5 měsíci

MIPS was developed in a University in Stockholm in the 1990s - jointly developed by an engineer for his PhD and a neurosurgeon who had noticed a pattern of brain damage in injured cyclists.
They formed a company called MIPS AB in 2005 to finance testing and manufacturing.
It wasn’t dreamt up by a bike companies marketing team….
MIPS1 was found to be prohibitively expensive to incorporate into a helmet, so they redesigned MIPS2 which is used today - manufacturers buy the MIPS layer from these guys and add it to their helmet manufacturing process - this is why MIPS helmets cost a little more than regular helmets…
