- My brother @XanderBudnick and I introduce our dad, who's in his 60s, to his first winter camping experience. We embarked on a 4-day hot tent backcountry trip in the Sudbury area of Ontario, Canada. Fortunately, the weather gods smiled upon us, providing ideal snow and ice conditions for pulling our sleds. This made the journey exceptionally beautiful and enjoyable, allowing us to indulge in some delightful side hikes.
Despite the inherent challenges of winter camping, our dad had an absolute blast and seems eager to embark on another adventure soon. Woohoo!

Awesome! When I look at my dad I feel he's got lots of time left to enjoy the outdoors - as long as he takes care of his health just as we all should.
Almost impossible to regret a camping trip, yet so often we wish we had spent more time outdoors when we could. Hope you get out there very soon, and let me know when you do! Cheers!

Hello, Margaret! Yeah my dad did great! His age was absolutely no issue and he kept up with us just fine. I think for lots of people the hardest part is mentally accepting the little discomforts like getting wet and doing your business in a hole in the ground haha. That is great of spending time with your dad and Xander especially the modern times with Social Media alot of peeps are missing out on the outdoors and the serene forest.
Hey there! Sorry for taking so long to reply... The hot stove still has lots of life in her! They tend to get warped and rusted almost immediately (not sure you can prevent it with these kinds of portable stoves).

Well done and nicely filmed! Good on your Dad for stepping out of his comfort zone and you both for letting him in to yours. I can definitely relate being a few years older than your Dad. My exercise now is shovelling snow and splitting wood for the fireplace where I can enjoy these outdoor videos sitting on my keister. My days of winter camping are long behind me having done that in my twenties in northern saskatchewan while working for mineral exploration companies. I have to say that the video was great as usual, (you and your brother Xander, make great videos, I follow you both as well as some of the people you do collaborations with. Food for my soul. Just awesome goodness while I'm stuck inside for the season) but my favorite part was the end. The drone footage of you guys driving out in Xanders yota through all of the snow was pure nostalgia for me. You see, I'm a fly fishing guide across the lake in the upper peninsula of Michigan and I used to do a lot of winter activities but, these days business is boomin so to prepare for trout season I tie flies for my business all winter and I always have your videos on for entertainment and to keep up morale.
So, as I sit here at 6am tying flies while its 2°F outside, Thanks for the mental recharge 🤟😎🤙
Also, I lost my dad 15 years ago to cancer. He would have been 71 this year. We always were hunting or fishing or just outside all the time. It was good to see your dad out an enjoying his time with you two. Reminded me of my past.

What an amazing trip! Great to see you and Xander taking your father out for some woods medicine. Your dad's badass! He's cuttin wood, throwing logs on his shoulder and dragging em into camp! That's awesome!
Maxim, I wanted to ask you guys... how do you stay so fit to be able to do these winter trips where you're towing big trains into the bush during the winter and felling dead trees, buckin em up and splitting them. And then get up the next morning and do it all over again like you guys did with the Baird boys last winter. We don't really have these massive open parcels of vastness here in New England like you guys do until one gets up to far northern Maine which is almost to you😃. You wouldn't be able to go into the "backcountry" of New Hampshire or Vermont and get the kind vastness like you guys have there. There's way too many visitors and there's hardly any firewood like what's up where you guys are. I would venture to say there's some secret squirrel woody areas here in Mass that one could potentially pull a trip like this off but I'm not sharing😏.

Hey NQU! How have you been? The major factor to me staying fit is that I genuinely enjoy physical activity - exercising doesn't feel like a chore so I never go more than a day or two without being active. The type of activity doesn't even matter that much - I just go for the best option available to me.
I understand the struggle of not having wilderness available close by. I lived in nyc for many years and sometimes felt that the relative proximity of Harriman SP was all that kept me sane... There is some phenomenal hiking in NH though... I'll probably go back in the near future...

Your dad is a gem. How awesome was it to listen to him read the Meditations? I'm super impressed with his physical prowess and his joie de vivre (look at this Yank dropping some Francais on ya!). I lost my dad about 18 months ago. This video made me miss him, but also made me so happy to see you guys share your passion with him. Hey Scott. Sorry to hear about your dads recent passing. I see how tough it is for my father to see my grandfather getting older, and it's made me appreciate how important it spend quality time together - specially while my father is still young and capable of joining us in physically strenuous activities.
Quite a few people have left a similar comment on this video regarding recently losing their loved ones... My father has a warmth and earnestness about him that seems to strike a chord with people who place high value on spending time with family.
