i watched throught champion spotlights and for samira and nilah they literally wrote sentences like "the new tilt queen is here" and "make your opponents rage with this ability". i couldn't believe it. they blatantly prioritized having rich losers insta buy the new champs and their skins that cost more than an indie game so they get to 1v9 while the rest of the playerbase will be having a bad time *by design*.
imo how a champion feels to play *against* is 9 times more important than how it is to play them.
@@bigsmoke4592 to be honest, i was raging at the new overloaded champions, but as i started to take the game less seriously and focused more on my individual gameplay (which will recover mental health) i dont mind the new champions at all. They are stupid fun, overloaded and carry you. But they are kinda the only way to climb, they balance the bad teammates and punish enemies mistakes. If you get good at samira/kayn/akshan/viego etc, you gonna climb and you will have a good time. Just turn of chat.
I was maining Xin for a long time, but i realized he is too honest and fair, i switched to viego and i know i can carry even if my team has a bad start.
My take away is adding the assassin class to any other class is bad for balance, which makes sense because Riot already has trouble balancing pure assassins so I don't know why they try to make assassin hybrids every so often.
It's because assassins rake in skin cash!

Akshan is quite overloaded, but his E is so much fun to use. I am fine if they remove his absolver, or rework him so long as he keeps the grappling hook.
I say take away his q or his bs 2 free AAs from his passive, I honestly don't mind the other parts, it's the fact he gets such a free early game with his good poke potential that let's him turn into a problem.
Every champ has like one ability that, just screams “I am____”
Akshan’s is definitely his E, they could change his whole kit, but as long as they keep his voice lines and E, it’ll still be him imo

To me, it all boils down to the revive. There is just no reason what-so-ever for it to be there. He would probably be fine without it.
Of course there is a reason. Being a infinitely stupid plotpoint in an event filled with stupid plotpoints
It's even worse if you consider how much the revive breaks the entire game. If your team mishandles a teamfight and Akshan manages to kill the guy(s) who snacked them, there is no strategic disadvantage aside from the gold for your team. But in the mid to late game, gold hardly matters anyway.

Even Draven passive that is just some extra gold only procs on kills, why does Akshan late-game-instant-win passive procs on assists is beyond design stupidity
They could quite literally split his abilities/passives into 3 different champs and still have a set of really good champs in theory
For real for real. Give his passive to a bruiser! His ultimate to a marksman! The revive and the hook to some weird support and the stealth and hook to an assassin and make another duo character, I dunno! Something more coherent than... Whatever Akshan is!
akshan is the definition of "but wait, there's more!"
his passive alone has more text than nasus' entire kit. not only it has a lot of words, it has a lot of intricacies as well
you can attack twice, and your attacks and Q apply a stack. if you hit an enemy 3 times, they take a burst of damage.
but wait there's more! if you cancel your second auto, you gain movement speed instead. but that's not all! if you proc your passive on a champion, you gain a shield!
AND THAT'S ONLY HIS PASSIVE!
his other abilitiesm like Q extends infinitely as long as there's targets, guaranteeing he has a neutral game as if he's behind, he can just poke you from afar with minion extending Q
then we get to his W. you get bonus gold just for avenging a fallen ally. not only that, YOU REVIVE THEM AS WELL! as if earning bonus gold wasn't enough. then it's active allows you to camoflage as long as you're near a wall. forcing laners to get control wards or be jumpscared by a ganking akshan
You also get a blood scent style chase down when in camo as well, more movement speed, a tell on where the target is, and ;for some reason, mana regen
but that's not all! His Q gives him movement speed if it hits a champion!
Pretty sure this was longer than Nasus' kit
U forgot to mention that his passive does magic damage and he can trigger its three hit MULTUPLE times in a few seconds
You also forgot that his w gives him pretty good bonus mana regen when he is going in direction of a scoundrel
fascinating how "overpowered" a character could be, yet have so little players of note who can consistently perform with him. Drututt, Yamato, and that one Korean one trick, Migung I believe.
Imagine if the people who made Genshin skill descriptions worked for Riot. You'd get more text than the Bible for some champs

You know what, let me try to emulate what that would look like
Passive: Dirty Fighting
Upon using Normal Attack: Bolts of Righteousness, Akshan applies one stack of Light-Infused Vindicating Condemnation
When an enemy receives three stacks of Light-Infused Cleansing Condemnation, Akshan deals a burst of extra damage to the enemy, removing all Light-Infused Vindicating Condemnation stacks
Additionally, when Akshan uses Normal Attack: Bolts of Righteousness, Akshan gains an Evil-Repelling Luminous Screen, shielding himself for 5 seconds, Evil-Repelling Luminous Screen has a 10s cooldown
If Akshan Sprints after using Normal Attack: Bolts of Righteousness, Akshan receives a Boon of the Audacious Avenger, gaining 25% Movement Speed for 5 seconds
After each individual attack of Normal Attack: Bolts of Righteousness, Akshan fires an additional second projectile, which also applies Light-Infused Vindicating Condemnation
And I didn't even add LoL's numbers and ratios that appear in each ability description

Meanwhile they keep Akshans revive, because THAT'S not game breaking and I guess in this case we care about lore accuracy since it's a naked shirtless man that could sell more skins huh

Ability designer of Akshan was *that* kid that pulled the rocket launcher out they butt whenever playing Rock, Paper, Scissors.
It's pretty telling that his ult didn't even get its own section in the video. it's just super situational, not to say underpowered, to somewhat balance the rest of his crazy kit.
imo if they wanna keep the revive-mechanic on akshan (which seems to be pretty important lorewise) they should bake it into the ultimate. Ults are meant to be a bit gamebreaking. (see global range ults, zilean ult, etc)
Because aksha desgin is have a strong passive with a 3 or 4 diferents thing and riot balance that given him a shit ultimate.... but IF vars said that than hes argument falls off

An idea for a series you can make to follow this series is "How would I fix ...?", where you talk about the ways to address the problems with a champion's kit and how that would integrate with the rest of the system.
If they really want to keep his revive becuz of lore accuracy, then the least they can do is moving the revive to his ult and it can only revive one person. I think with this it would result to some kind of counter play since you can body block the ult

Just watched a depressing and anger inducing history video, so a new Vars upload dunking on Akshan is just what I needed to cheer me up a bit before bed.

Nilah is so terrible, like at least with the rope boy they justify his bullshit in the lore, meanwhile Nilah has probably the most uninspired kit attached to something that actually has the potential to be interesting, being someone using a demon to feed on their joy, but it isn’t reflected in how she plays at all.

Something I think would help but not fix his revive is to make it so he can only revive one person that the enemy killed. Often times in team fights one person gets most if not all of the kills meaning if they get 3 kills he only gets one revive. Which yes is still crazy but it helps and I definitely think he needs to be the one to kill them not just an assist adding more risk to him working to get a revive. Not perfect but it helps... a bit
As a side note this would also make for a cool bit of lore because if he can only revive one person you could have a story where someone kills 2 or more people that he really cared about and once he gets the scoundrel he would have to choose who to revive and it would be heart reaching for him.

@@ruschev2 most likely cause miss fortune was the only one he killed. If someone gets a cuadra kill though in theory akshan could kill that person to revive all 4 teammates
The other way is to make him give -20% to death timer per kill. So that team at least can cheer up like heey man get them get them, lets penta...and so on.
The best way to balance his revive is to give him some sort of fucking demerit when he uses it. Right now, it's a fuxking passive that gives him bonus gold whenever it procced, and gives infinite camo, increased mana regen, and blood scent on active.
I played an ARAM with an Akshan and the whole team died and then we all got revived again. Even I thought it was bullshit... Think we still lost though, so whatever.
Yes, it's bullshit, because when ARAM used to be brainless fun, champs like Akshan made it so that you couldn't destroy towers or pushed mindlessly due to him reviving all his 4 teammates from just one kill.
His W passive should be switched to an R with the capacity to revive only one teammate.

Still a little baffled that a revive mechanica like that is still in the game. Even if he gets just one person back up, it can be enough to wildly swing a game.
If they did Akshans revive as it is in the lore, I wouldnt even mid so much. The problem is though, that not only does he revive everyone instead of one, but even needs an assist only rather than getting the kill himself is what annoys me the most.

1:03 "He's been mostly nerfed" no he's not, if so, he's been mostly buffed. The only real nerf was when he got his E base damage lowered again. Most of the changes to him are to make him mostly a feast or famine champ (sorry for any misspell english isn't my main lenguage)

the large amount of extremely overloaded marksmen makes me thing that important people on the balance team main marksmen.
You forgot to mention that on release, if he died but the enemy that killed him was killed within his assist window (and was damaged by him) he could revive himself too.
Another big problem yoh left out completely is his snowballing. He's like Lucian mislane, but if he gets slightly ahead he can ambush and one shot you with his w. And since he's now fed, he can easily hunt down targets that recently killed his own teammates, so he now also gets bonus gold for additional kills
so all i hear is that lore wise as a rule breaker he is perfectly designed
Every champion gimmick is to bend the laws of the game in a certain way, Akshan revives people, Gwen is immune, Neeko is a minion, Yasuo starts the game 0/18, Viego stole Morde old ult and so on
So if Ahkshan didn’t have the revived aspect of his W, would he considered “ok” of a champion design?
Also we all know if Vars does a Everything wrong with Yone it’s either going to be at least an hour long or not make a video since almost every video has him dunking on Yone already

you nailed it on this one, I honestly do think too many ideas were squished together to fit into Akshan. I love Akshan's character concept when he was released but saw the problems quickly when he came out.
Renata Glasc has a fair and balanced revive design which shows Riot found better ways of using such ideas, Akshan's revive is BS though it can really turn any game
I like how Vars talks about how Akshan just ignores the rules… which is also like, his entire personality XD
On the topic of the revive breaking the rules of the game: every champion breaks the rules of the game in some fashion, at least technically. Some of them are more obvious, like how champions that can scale infinitely have scaling abilities at all, or how Ornn can make items strictly better, or hiw Ziggs can just delete a tower. But others might not immediately stand out, like how Garen can just regen more than anyone else, or how Yuumi can grant her damage to her carry. All of the cool things we get to do in the game are breaking the rules in some capacity.
It's the exact same phenomenon as something like Magic the Gathering. When you play a creature, you have to wait a turn before you can use it...unless it has Haste, then you can break that rule. When you attack, you have to tap that creature...unless you have Vigilance, then you can break that rule. You can only draw one card per turn...unless you play a card that lets you break that rule.
All of that said, Akshan breaks so many rules at once that it loops back around to being unfun instead of being a cool addition to the game.
i think the phrase that could be made here is "parasitic design" for akshan.
As an Akshan main, I have been waiting for this for 2 years and am so glad it's finally here.
Im an Akshan main too. People keep complaining about Akshan only because they have no clue how to play against him. They keep blaming the revive passive but they keep dying to him instead of running.
@@bauch69 The idea of killing the enemy is map control. If you can't stay and do stuff that was an useless fight. And yes you can always get caught by another enemy. But then it would be a 1 for 1. If you get caught by Akshan it's not. His mere presence changes the game.

12:50 finally someone said it. Changing fundamental aspects of any game for the sake of a gimmick in a character's kit is awful regardless of weather that change makes the character worse (something like making death timers 1.2 times longer) or better. It is fine to alter interactions like Kayn wall walking (should not heal though) or Evelyn perma stealth. But to change an other wise universal mechanic is a bad choice as it is cheating. Imagine you went to TF gold passive and added that he could sell items at 100% purchase price, or just giving the ability to buy items with the same text to only one champ (like two IEs or two life line items).
Twisted Fates passive used to give 2 gold to all team members for last hitting, they removed it because it was to strong. Zileans passive used to give extra XP to all team mates, again removed because it was too strong. If Akshan was an earlier champion the revive would be removed around the same time they got rid of the Revive summoner spell.
Yeah I could mention Zilean's ult as well but that one has indication and even if you kill the guy you have like 3 seconds to do anything else.
Did not know that TF passive was global though.
@@Ai-jr4ou If I remember correctly they got rid of it around season 2 or 3, at the same time they got rid of most of the buff and gold per minute items - the justification at the time was to remove hidden/non-obvious power. Quite a few of the older champions had global passives or ultimate's that were then reworked or reduced in range.

There is 1 risk about his reviving. If you got a feeder and you revive him due the kills you make, you actually feed the enemy

Every Akshan player I've seen does the exact same thing. Goes to the wolf camp and spin in a circle till the game is over. No kills, no jungle kills, no assists, just a bunch of deaths either by blue buff, wolf camp or enemy players.

Altho I disagree on the disadvantage state, askhan has legit a dogshit disadvantage, he's just an assassin bad at assassinating but given the tools to be fed.
His laning is annoying, yes but so is Lucian or Tristana that we often see go solo lane, and they function more like traditional marksmen when fed, while akshan is way less useful when not ahead.
all in all he's strong because he's like Katarina, works well in chaos and he also takes away one of 4 things from any comp : A real assassin, a real mage/control champ if played mid, a bruiser, or a tank if played top.
As a Askahn main, I can agree on 90% of what is said everythng wrong about him. Until I pick and remember why he is so fun. Being a somwhat hybrid champ it's true you can play him in almost every role just look at how some folks(myself added) play him as support.
everytime when i see akhsan with soraka in aram you struggle to kill one by the end of all of them u hear akshan reviving the whole team : "Reclaimed by the light! Yadda-yadda-yadda..."
I think it would be ok-ish if they removed the revive and left the movement speed and extra gold alone.
It’s the same thing with Gwenn and Viego. It feels like their lore was made so that they could have broken thing, not making a balancable champion and lore from there. I love playing all three of them, but their abilities are unfair.
I play Akshan a lot, I agree with most of the points made in this video with the expection that the hook shouldn't reset (it's literally the best part of his kit, keep the resets, its so fun)
I think the reset is annoying because it enables him to be the pain in the ass that he is. Darius reset isnt as bad because he needs the 5 stack and hes also melee so you can run. Akshans reset enables him to keep rushing the enemy team down so he can keep reviving his team and getting bonus gold to keep snowballing
@jordonhenderson5293 I agree with you. However, the satisfaction I feel when I'm swinging around demolishing the enemy and then swinging to the next is a feeling I can only get with Akshan. I'm fine with nerfing or removing his resurrection passive, but keep the reseting hooks.
Also, if you don't get a kill with your e, your cooldown is quite long, so it balances itself out a bit imo
also, his e is really hard to get full, proper value out of. everyone who whines about it has never once known the satisfaction of learning the good swing spots.
I would like you to consider from point of wiev of not ultimaletly balanced game but a game that allows those revive 4 teammates and win that way by 1 in 10.000(idk) games. Also it helps to create memories and strories to form stronger connection with the game. Otherwise all the matches played would be inherently more or less the same. And also as you stated there is practicality of things.
Still Akshan is more risky to play than a real assassin (team fighting)
Yes, he can in and out but ONLY if he kills, Zed can blink back and Kha'zix can rejump and so on, Akshan's E only works if you score a kill and is easily exploitable as a escape tool when you just have to stand near him to cancel it

How are we talking about Samira needing to fight her way out if she goes in, but then argues that Akshan has no such weakness because his E resets on kills???
Akshan having more range therefore not needing to be inside the enemy team is a better argument since Samira can easily get out too if she gets a reset.
Just compare how hard it is for Renata to save one person after looking at Akshan. You give a buff, and *if* they die in that time and then *if* they score a kill in the around 2 seconds they have left they stay at 20% hp. Of course the enemy team isn't awarded a kill in this case, but again, this can affect one ally at most. Akshan says "I do what I do anyway" and gets gold like pyke and resurrects his whole team. Fun
I’ve proposed this too my friends that the only way to balance akshans revive would be to make every champion akshan kill be revived when akshan is killed
A huge issue is you should focus him down first to avoid the revive passive, but he has perma stealth so catching one out is nearly impossible.
As a person who plays jhin (and jhin mid sometimes) I hate this champion to the point where it’s very fitting
Akshan counters my play style in almost every way, and everytime where I think I have a chance to shut him down
He still comes up on top or escapes alive

@@FranciscoJGYeah, bad players seem to think this, except once you realize Wardens Mail counters him arguably harder than it does Urgot, and he can’t outplay point and click cc, then it becomes a very managable champion.

@@goro0568 500 auto range, most supports, mages and tanks have cc that can easily hit him or engage onto him, in terms of teamfights Akshan is probably the ADC that is the easiest to nullify/shut down, and unlike the other short range ADCs, he has nothing to dodge spells with reactively, as hookshot is completely unreliable at doing that.

His passive is appropriately named. He is fighting dirty, this man has a 1 hit 2 hit and 3 hit passive. IN JUST HIS PASSIVE.
If I had to make a revivr ability I would make it an Ultimate, single target, = if not longer cooldown as Requiem, and a long and clearly telegraphed channel time (probably close in duration to stand united if not a second longer) that can be interrupted to stop the res and force the ability onto cooldown.

It is a theoretical analysis. In practice, Akshan is countered by cc, and it’s e is relatively easy to interrupt
Vars going above and beyond because this video could just be 5 seconds long, just say the line "his rez," then roll credits, and it'd still be correct.
We used to have a Champ with a revive in HoN as well, however that was a Supp champ (it was a 3 min Cooldown Ult) , and there were some stringent conditions to use it. It was a 3-5 sec channel on a toombstone the ally left when they died which could be destroyed by any enemy nearby, therefore wasting the ult if the toombstone got destroyed before you finished your ult. I too feel that they made a gargantuan blunder by giving something like that on a passive.
Please do a why no one plays Milio! He went from being the #`1 picked enchanter to second last above Renata! Really feel in a matter of 2 patches completely.
He is not fun to play at all
Well, that's an easy answer. Riot wants their pro scene to be engage supports. Milio is an anti-engage, making him an obvious pick against all in engages. But because he works exactly as he should and Riot doesn't want an enchanter meta, they nerfed him into the ground so now he's literally unplayable in comparison to when he came out. They either go all in or decide a champion shouldn't exist.
They want the plays to be exciting and engaging. They don't want stalled games - all things Milio wants. So they ruined his timers and subverted his playstyle which makes him entirely unplayable because . . the point of his kit is being ignored. Of course they've recently "buffed" his Q, but his Q is not only his last maxed ability, but he cannot reasonably go AP and it's so minimal to his entire kit that it might as well have been not done at all. So until the balance team decides they're tired of a tank, engage support meta ( Rell, Naut, Thresh, Leona, etc ) we're not getting Milio to a playable state.

The Problem with Akshan is that he has passives that he dont need in his kit, the shield, the Q passive proc, infinite stealth, revive, E reset, even his ultimate procs his passive and he dont even need it. He has such a nice, cool and strong kit but because they had to put every possible assassin/marksman passive in his kit, he is just overloaded.

Like can you imagine if Zed was immune to magic damage and all his CDs just reset after a takedown which means he becomes a champion again AFTER he already did his job, which is to take out the priority target? lmao.
I love how vayne has 2 passives but one of them takes up an ability slot, but akshan? HE HAS LIKE 4 PASSIVES, AND NONE OF THEM TAKE UP AN ABILITY SLOT because they are either on his actual passive or attached to a button he can press already for no reason
Great vid! Really shows how the next champion always HAS to have MORE AND MORE bs in their kit. I don't get what riot is doing with the game period. I believe you should talk about invulnerability and complete stealth next. As i believe champions like shaco and items like duskblade should be straight up changed or deleted. Also could touch onto how Neeko got extremely overbuffed.
