How to Use the Siri Raise to Speak Feature in watchOS 5

  • Apple's watchOS 5 update includes a new Siri feature that eliminates the need to say "Hey Siri" or push the Digital Crown to activate the personal assistant.
Instead, you can raise your wrist and speak right to Siri, with the Apple Watch able to detect your movements and your desire to relay a Siri command. It's simple to enable, and it works well once you know a few tricks.

2 things I’d been doing wrong that made it not work. 1) is that it the Siri interface thing won’t show up until it hears your voice. So just raising your wrist and waiting for it doesn’t work. 2) is that if i activate the watch by some other way first, tapping the screen or pressing one of the buttons it won’t work. IT has to be both of those. Activating it by raising the wrist AND talking into it. I hope that helps someone

UPDATE: I had the same issue with Siri Raise To Speak not working and had initially formulated my frustration in an earlier response in this thread.
I solved my own problem by accident.
    1) I already had Siri Raise to Speak enabled in Settings in my Watch.
    2) I DID NOT have WAKE SCREEN ON WRIST RAISE enabled, however, in Settings on my Watch. After I enabled this feature, all I have to do is complete the wrist raise, my screen then wakes up, and if I start speaking to Siri, it works flawlessly.
I really did not want to have my watch set up to wake on screen raise, but I am under the impression that unless I enable this feature, Raise to Speak with Siri will not work.
This worked for me on my Apple Watch Series 3 (GPS + Cellular).

Now please tell me how to get my Apple Watch 4 order out of its permanent 'pending' state... Are they making them one at a time?

Regarding raise to speak.... Only works 100%in series 6 due to soc s6 even in noisy environment. Raise the wrist where it will light up then wait 1 second before speaking....(very close to mouth esp voice directed to watch microphone)... no need to be vertical to ground ....as long as it wakes up like you normally would. Hope this helps.

Doesn't seem to be anything on the web about this feature being excluded from older watches. That's just for the Walkie Talkie feature. Plenty of comments about it being flaky as hell, though. It's not your watch, it's you. I'm not on the Beta (updating to 4.3.2 as I type) so hopefully they'll have it working properly before watchOS 5 goes mainstream. But probably not.
