How to Use the Siri Raise to Speak Feature in watchOS 5

- Apple's watchOS 5 update includes a new Siri feature that eliminates the need to say "Hey Siri" or push the Digital Crown to activate the personal assistant.
Instead, you can raise your wrist and speak right to Siri, with the Apple Watch able to detect your movements and your desire to relay a Siri command. It's simple to enable, and it works well once you know a few tricks.

It never works when I want it to work, but when I'm trying to prove to someone else that it never works, it works every time.
Trust me, it works. Just raise it to your mouth. Touch your mouth with the watch even. Then it works.

2 things I’d been doing wrong that made it not work. 1) is that it the Siri interface thing won’t show up until it hears your voice. So just raising your wrist and waiting for it doesn’t work. 2) is that if i activate the watch by some other way first, tapping the screen or pressing one of the buttons it won’t work. IT has to be both of those. Activating it by raising the wrist AND talking into it. I hope that helps someone
Only works by accident...I’ve given up trying 😡

Is it pulled back in the official release or is it for series 3 and 4 ?
Thanks for the great video!!!! I never new how to use it before because when I updated my Watch it wouldn't work but you explained it more clearly to me and it works perfectly now!!!😄😄😄

I use Siri quite often for timers or Homekit. I will for sure test it, when it will be aviable for open beta testers.
You saved me a call to Apple. Bless you, my child.
UPDATE: I had the same issue with Siri Raise To Speak not working and had initially formulated my frustration in an earlier response in this thread.
I solved my own problem by accident.
1) I already had Siri Raise to Speak enabled in Settings in my Watch.
2) I DID NOT have WAKE SCREEN ON WRIST RAISE enabled, however, in Settings on my Watch. After I enabled this feature, all I have to do is complete the wrist raise, my screen then wakes up, and if I start speaking to Siri, it works flawlessly.
I really did not want to have my watch set up to wake on screen raise, but I am under the impression that unless I enable this feature, Raise to Speak with Siri will not work.
This worked for me on my Apple Watch Series 3 (GPS + Cellular).

I was wondering how to enable this feature on my Apple Watch 3's watchOS 5. Surprise! I found it was already turned on, but not working. A simple toggle off and on again solved the problem. Now please tell me how to get my Apple Watch 4 order out of its permanent 'pending' state... Are they making them one at a time?
Mine just keeps telling me it will tap me when ready I’m using a iPhone xs max and apple watch series 4 I’m using WiFi and have 300 mbps WiFi any suggestions?
I wasn't sold on it until the end when you mentioned HomePod. I have the issue where all of my devices respond to "Hey Siri," so this will actually be pretty nice.

@MacRumors - You forgot to mention it's available for Watch Series 3 and above.
Watch series 2 do not have that option.
Aviel Corchia yup and there is absolutely no technical reason for this. Same sensors. Same possibilities. It’s them obsoleting a useful device.
how it is work ? I can't use it
So sad but true, I wish they would've waited with that for at least another year or 2.

It's not working on Series 2 Watch or lower, so don't look for it there. If you have Series 3, look in the settings > siri > raise to speak, you should have such option there.
Oo, that why I cannot find the toggle for raise to speak for Siri setting in my apple watch series 2. Did apple mention this before?
Thank you so much for this video!
Yeah, I’ve been trying this since the update and I can’t get it to work at all without saying “Hey Siri.”

Dan, how much battery does this feature use? I had "hey siri" on on my apple watch 0 and had to turn it back off, because the battery wouldn't last through the day.
Michael Janich
The new watch series 3 battery is superior by far. The old battery has old lithium so maybe that’s why?
I updated today to developer beta 5 and it works for me now.
why it isn't working on my apple watch series 3 (only GPS)?
Works easily on Apple Watch 5, kinda useful ❤️
Doesn’t work at all for me after upgrading to WatchOS 5 on Series 3 (GPS + Cellular).
Tried everything but shoving the watch down my throat, including rebooting.
youtubingwithyou Same
me too
Not working for my series 3 either !!!
Only works some of the time on my series 3
Try raising the watch close to your mouth then speak, I couldn't get it to work but I think the proximity sensor plays a big part in making the feature work.
With the series 4, when you say hey Siri on the watch does it activate the Siri on your phone too like it does on the series 3? Or is that a feature you can turn off so they don’t both active?

Love it can't wait to use walkie talkie
How many times in this video activate Hey Siri on your iPhone while your were watching!!! For me 5 times!!!
Basically raise the watch like you’re looking at it and literally talk to the display, I usually keep looking at the display just to make sure it works. Just imagine a camera at the top of the watch and for it to work the camera is supposed to read your lips. I can guarantee it will work!
I legitimately just tried exactly this and it worked perfectly. Thanks so much!
Same for me, thanks! I couldn't figure out why it wasn't working
It works for me like once for every 10 trys. Apple gotta improve this feature. tried this on my series 7 bt version
I have the Watch Series 4 running Watch OS 5 and it works PERFECTLY! Such an intuitive and useful feature once you learn how to use it. No more saying "Hey Siri" and having my devices all react to my voice. Good way to narrow down the attention to the watch itself. Thanks for sharing Dan.

Does this work on galaxy watch?
Wasn't working for me (series 3). Found an article that states some users need to raise it so that the screen is vertical. (perpendicular to the floor.) I'm now able to get it to work. I still hope they improve it where you don't have to raise the watch so dramatically. As soon as the screen comes on it should be ready, in my opinion.

2) JUST RAISE AND AT THE SAME TIME ROTATE INSTANTLY TO YOUR FACE IT WILL WORK

This helped. Finally got it actived. Never dealing with that again. Disabling it. Terrible implementation.

ONLY THING THAT MATTERS TO HAVE IT WORK 100% OF TIMES IS IT HAS TO BE INACTIVE WHEN YOU DO IT. So it has to be woken up by Raise to speak in order to work. If it's already active it won't work. So before raise to speak, make sure to hold your hand over the watch to deactivate it before trying it.
No
Well it doesn’t work for me

you have to raise your hand and speak directly into your watch, meaning your mouth should almost touch your hand. Works on my S3 this way

Why siri doesnt talk to me. It doesnt start downloading voice even if i put watch on charge. What should i do

Depends if you text an android phone.
Try updating both iOS and watch OS. Or turn it off and pair them again.

It's not your watch, it's you. I'm not on the Beta (updating to 4.3.2 as I type) so hopefully they'll have it working properly before watchOS 5 goes mainstream. But probably not.
