- How to Build a Large Dog House DIY
We have an outside dog that stays under our back porch, but on rainy days a lot of water flows through this area so he just stays wet.
And to help him stay dry and warmer during the winter months, I decided to build him a raised dog house for his comfort.
Most of the lumber used for this project was from an old wooden crate that I took apart recently thus keeping this build relatively cheap.
Now he is a happy warm pet.

Winner of a video, I've been looking for "how to build a small dog house out of wood" for a while now, and I think this has helped. You ever tried - Ganyan Canicholas Formula - (search on google ) ? Ive heard some pretty good things about it and my colleague got cool success with it.

Really nice plan on making one formy dog but is used out side where it can be in rain might want to have the roof pitch the other way so dog can go in or out with out all the water coming down right in front of door and splashing in the door will help keep inside dry

came to the comments to say exactly the same thing :) Where I live it rains a lot and we tend not to have areas already under some kind of cover to put the kennel, you'd definitely want the pitch going the other way, and maybe a little porch type thing over the entrance to stop the rain blowing straight in

You should note that the Slope of the Dog House should angle downward in the back if using the dog house outside where it will be rained on instead of the way that you built this one sloping down in the front since it will be under cover. Sloping it downwards on the back will allow for rain to run off of the back instead of to the front doorway area like it will with the way this one is built.

I think the roof should be slanted backward for rain runoff
should have built it with an inner partition wall on the left side of the door inside, just like it is isn't very effective at keeping warmth. With the partition wall the dog will have another wall to block the cold, wind, and whatever else. Will be an easy upgrade at least.

I like the dog house. However, I can't get over that you have the roof sloping over the entry door. Rain water will pour right down over the entry soaking poor little Fido.

Looks nice, beautiful job - but no good. It’s too big, should be only few inches larger than the dog ( each side ). The body heat is dispersed in the large space instead staying close to the dog’s body. Ask any veterinarian. Especially if you live in a cold climate.

Connection: Don't sweat it .The Navy built a $175,000,000 something or other that wouldn't fit through the door of the $250,000,000 bld. they built to put it in. One was a total write off. Believe it was the building.

My 2 cats slept in a makeshift house made out of milk crates and garbage bags because they could not come in once I found one of two places to stay after I wound up on the street a second time.
YOU have probably never been homeless, slept in a ditch in military exercises, or slept in a car in 28 degree weather in a blizzard where your teeth were chattering enough to wake one up when you finally fell asleep out of exhaustion.
I have slept out in the cold and the rain under trees when I was young in a sleeping bag.
And in a tent with just a thin blanket to protect me from the cold.
Or tried to sleep in the Battle of the Bulge in freezing temperatures and then in even colder Korea like my Father did.
Or my uncles on the Russian Front in the same war.
Or my Mother and sister walking across Europe from Tilsit, Lithuania/East Prussia hundreds of miles to get away from the hordes of Russian troops who raped women, children and killed babies in their wombs.

loved your pool noodle hacks. You are right they do make great insulation. What if you cut your pool noodles in half (length wise) and used it for insulation in the dog house? Winter is coming.

VENTILATION FOR THE ROOF
Isn't that similar to "measure twice, cut once"?
Nice build but slope the roof to back and leave enough hang over over the door to keep the floor dry. Your dog will thank you when it rains. But nice and simple, thanks.
