I am in my 40's and have known about this my whole life. This story is one of probably thousands. Emmit's story just had a national face but was one of many murders of black people in America and a white Satanist who got away with it. It's traumatic and frightening. This nightmare was common place in the south.
I hope that those murderers are slowly roasting in hell for killing that poor young man. I have a 14 year old and I can't imagine ever losing my child to evil,sick violence.

As a person born and raised in Mississippi, about an hour away from Drew, this story hit home even more. My great grandmother was 8 years old at the time. The black and white pictures tend to make some forget that this wasn’t that long ago.

Which he denied, but the woman went home and told her husband that this young man flirted with her, later Emmett was kidnapped by these group of white men. Every year, on his birthday, July 25th, I force myself to look at the pictures of Emmet in his coffin and at the morgue. It's REALLY difficult, and it never gets easier, but I never want to forget what they did. I think of him when people tell me they don't understand why I'm not speaking to 3 of my siblings right now for supporting white supremacist Donald Trump. I will NEVER pretend racism is ok.
