I bought a Canon flagship camera in 2013. It was the 1D X and the price was €5,999, which was really painful. I do not need most of the specs, but it still serves me well today. For me it was just important to get the most durable camera I could get. My biggest fear was a camera breaking while I am travelling and need it every day. So if I bought an R1 next year, I would like it to last another at least ten years again. Then the price per year is not that high.
That is a good point, flagship cameras are built like tanks. I had a 1DX MKII, and it was indestructible. My first camera is an R5, which has taken me to some pretty rugged places, and it has held up really well after four years. I could see it lasting easily at least double that. The other option that us Canon shooters have is the R3, which will no doubt reduce in price - that's flagship in all but name - just as rugged, very powerful for a pro shooter and a couple of thousand pounds/dollars/euro cheaper.
Sports & Wildlife. Just like every 1 series before. If you can afford it, you need it. If you can’t, you’ll come up with reasons why you don’t need it. It will be a beast.
An R8 can fulfill all that you need. People are brainwashed to seek tech they will never need.
