      And now it feels like for a lot of people, being awake/woke is evil satanism. Rightwing propaganda/culture has turned it into a prejorative, bastardized its meaning. Rightwing propaganda is effective. It manipulates our emotions and short-circuits the frontal lobe of the brain. The area responsible for critical thinking, rationality, and planning. It exploits ignorance and relies on misinformation, lies, and arguments supported by weak logical fallacies. Righwing propaganda prompts feelings of anger, rage, and fear in conservatives. Such emotions are addictive to a lot of humans. There is a reason why social media algorithms push rightwing controversial content on their platforms. Because it maximizes engagement. It gets CLICKS. So they profit off of the extra eyeballs and long engagement, selling ads space. Humans are addicted to emotions, including the emotions that can lead to negative/violent actions.

Funny thing is I once had a buddy who was all into the philosophy and archetypes of star wars but was too ignorant to understand what it means philosophically and esoterically. Nearly every movie has postmodern interpretations of esoteric knowledge, alien franchise is another, the matrix, especially Marvel and DC movies. The symbols have lost their meanings, as you can see people have a tendency to read the bible literally without understanding the mythology.

    I know what you meant when you said "Japanese internment camps," but it proves George's point of how easy a group of people can be made out as "other," and how that perception of those people can continue down through time. The Japanese part shouldn't enter into it. Those weren't Japanese internment camps. No Japanese were held there. Those were American internment camps where Americans were interned.

    @cmlemmus494 Před 10 měsíci +1

    The whole "unlimited rights" bit is a simlification of a 17th work of philosophy that forms the basis of English (and American) civil law.
    The full argument is that in an environment with no legal or social structure you can never trust anyone, so you need to see all other people as threats. Since no one person can survive long on their own, this means that the only way to survive is to voluntarily give up some of your "rights" (eg, the right to steal) on the condition that other people in the group give up the same rights.
    Thus, all laws, government, and social rules ultimately derive from contracts between individuals. This is why contract law is such an important part of the modern system.
    Hobbes also had some other interesting things to say, such as that anarchy and democracy are the same system as described by people who hate or like it, but the above is the main argument.

If you act like a decent person because that is what makes you happy and not because of some kudos from others or promise of a heavenly reward, then you are a decent person. Like the old joke says 'Going to church makes you a Christian (or insert whatever other religious building faith combo you like) in the same way standing in a garage makes you a car.'

    Good point to view, when he says the government doesn't care..... Now look at Lahaina, East Palestine, etc.

    Communicating a point thru comedy is fun and thought provoking, but it can't get past that barrier where you say, "good point! That makes total sense!", then go on believing whatever you believed in the first place while flushing logic right back out of your mind.

    If "THEY" can take it away from you for any reason IT IS NOT A RIGHT.
    Rights are inalienable. Look that word up, and then think what rights do you have... You have the right to breath, can you think of any others... Because your constitution DOES NOT instill rights, it grants privileges to a society that can take them away from you too... A prisoner doesn't have your rights, so his rights weren't inalienable were they?
    The right to life, liberty and prosperity isn't a right, otherwise everyone would have them, they're goals, they're stated societal objectives, but they aren't rights... Prisoners loose their liberty, soldiers loose their life and who is getting all this prosperity...
    You don't earn your rights, you don't ask for them or work for them, they're yours and you don't need to do anything because they're yours... So what are your rights?

    Joe Bonamassa - "Blues Delux" - From The Royal Albert Hall or Slo Gin at Red Rock - You'll love them even more than Mountain Climbing & Breaking Up Someone's Home that you reacted to.

    Loved this review. Stellar. Obviously, religion plays an important role in the hosts lives and that's good for them, but the fact that they were fair and at times impressed with the points Carlin made is inspiring. Open minds breed open hearts..Great job.

    @4:51 "Maybe it should be: 'Don't lie because you want to be a good person' ". My friend, this is the foundation of actual moral philosophy! Examine your beliefs closely and then keep the ones that make sense in a coherent and cohesive whole. Dogma teaches people the opposite: "Don't think about it, just do it my way".
