    You see that software trick to hide the notch? THAT is what I thought how the notch would be and THAT is an elegant workaround to that. Which, again, works!

      but why tho the notch is still there

    • @reggiexp69
      @reggiexp69 Před 6 lety +19

      just to clairify.
      you know u lose icon space on the notification bar right?
      like battery wifi gps bluetooth icons you have limited space if there are more the X amount u want see then cause they will be under the notch....
      same for notification icons have more then 4 icons the rest will be hiden i like to see all my icons in the notification bar to not forget... its like when u put the clock in the center it limited the amount of icons u can show.
      and i pull down the notification bar in the center from the speaker so a notch will anoye me, a notch i would have the notification bar un the notch but then again just give me a bezel;

    • @RomuloHaack
      @RomuloHaack Před 6 lety +5

      Regilio Bouma yes but the reason I mentioned as a pro the fact you can “hide” the notch through black bgs, means just an elegant workaround to, again, just hide the notch and gain some space for the notifications only - which by the way could be at least optional (just like p20 pro and lg7) across the board (all apps). Again, an elegant workaround. Just that, but got you point too :)

    • @jelani2790
      @jelani2790 Před 6 lety +7

      Romulo Haack also yes, but that only "hides" the notch durring general phone usage, when u wanna watch videos in 100% full screen, the notch is an eye sore
      (if u wanna get rid of the notch, you have to shrink the screen size, which defeats the purpose of a big screen)

    • @TobyCowles
      @TobyCowles Před 6 lety +2

      KuyaArnold They should have kept the removable battery as well, they could have carved a niche in the market as a phone marketed to enthusiasts with a bunch of weird features such as.
      -OEM unlockable boot loader on all models
      -Removable battery
      -Headphone jack with quad DAC
      -Dual USB c?
      -micro SD
      -3 camera’s (normal, telephoto, macro)
      -Large battery
      That way it would have so many features that it would stand out and buyers would be happy because even if they only care about 1 of them then they can find a phone with them.

      Eli A I have a G6, it's a solid device but will be the last LG I buy. The support for the phone has been terrible, Android 9 is around the corner and I'm still waiting to be updated to 8; it's like LG released the G6 then forgot about it. I wouldn't care about updates from the manufacture normally, but LG locked bootloaders on most G6 models... just, why? What benefit do they gain from locking advanced users out of being able to run the latest software?
      I've had Samsung devices before and I hate them too, so I'm not a fanboy just hating on LG. I used to like LG devices, but not anymore.

      I really dislike him reviewing the LG. He likes shitty brands like OPPO and Xiaomi more than LG...
      Those brands can't even get a 4G connection where I live. That is why IMO he should stop reviewing LG. It's never a fair review. And he always says something stupid like "Oh, this phone is so underrated" and "The audio is great thanks to the Quad DAC". But he ends up rewarding some shitty unknown brands at the end of the year as "great phones". I can't even purchase some of those phones without importing them from China. And basically risking what I've mentioned above. What is the point of having a phone that is "very smartly designed" like the OPPO, if I can't even use 4G internet here in Europe...
      PS: To prove my point, the Verge awarded the LG G7 ThinQ the Editor’s Choice award this year.
      Besides that there are always a shit ton of reviews on CZcams like "LG G7 ThinQ, the best phone no one will buy". Because you basically buy a flagship phone for the price of a middle budget phone. After a couple of months LG drops their prices heavily. That is one of the reasons why I love LG products so much.

      It's really not that bad of a phone though, the reason I bought it was to escape the garbage known as amoled. I know too many people with burn in and I use my phone for my job/navigation too much to trust a amoled solution. Sadly the craze is set and not many phones do IPS anymore, except for this LG and a few iphones. Don't get me wrong amoled is beautiful but the cons outweigh the deeper colors for me.

    I'll tell you what I really like about this phone. (I am using this phone)
    It's cheap, its a flagship and it's still barely a year old.
    The UI is amazing. Amazing. Small quality of life additions make it amazing and satisfying to use. Some of them are that the music player has inbuilt equaliser that actually works and you can tweak more frequency ranges, it even has a pitch changer (to transpose downloaded music) and while setting a ringtone, you can select specific parts of any song. UI is clean and top notch. It has Always on display, and the cameras are great (the picture quality further improves if you download Google cam mod for it)
    It's screen is one of the sharpest, albeit it's an LCD screen. You also get a pair of really good quality earphones in the box. If this phone falls exactly in your budget, just buy it. I got it for 23k something and I do not think there's any phone better than G7 for that price.

    Saw the G7 in the stores here in Korea. Played with it... absolutely LOVE it. I am an LG fan (although we just bought my wife a Samsung S9+, because she leans that way) and I have to say -- I love the screen on the G7. I am in awe of it. I don't know how else to say it, but it just pops without being harsh, like OLED's tend to appear, to me. I am more used to LCD than OLED, seeing as my current phone is an LCD, but wow... I think the G7 will be my next upgrade. Really impressed. LCDs always appeared a little more dark and flat, to me -- but not this. Side-by-side, I like the screen on it much more than the S9 and S9+ (this will be subjective). Odd to see a notched phone that looks better than the Iphone X. I like the simple styling and menu system that LG brings. And I have always loved how my LG phones just don't slow down after years of use! That's one reason why I avoid Samsung. We think we future-proofed my wife with the S9+, though, as its got 6gb of Ram. You have to get the upgraded G7+ version to get 6gb, as well.

      Android oem usually rolls out very stable updates over a lengthy period of time.
      I have come to appreciate stability over responsiveness of updates, if the device is updated just 2 times per year or even once followed by a smaller stability update , that should be enough imo.

    The notch has become a generation step up to consumers.
    Blame apple for setting this odd trend.

    As an LG G2, G3, and G4 owner I am disappointed. Think the LG V30 is more my thing.
    Good that they kept the headphone jack. But that notch and a chin as well. Face palm. V30 looks more balanced plus I feel like trying out an OLED. Plus 3000mah and not 3300mah... leaving room for the dumb loud speaker I guess

      just a little fyi, you can get rid of the notch in the settings ^_^. I own a V30 and I love everything about the phone besides the front camera. It's not as wide as my old V10 front camera, I'm not big on selfies so it's not a big deal to me.

      The g3 was the best imo. I loved its rounded back, thin bezels, it was an over All good phone lg needs to go back to the rounded back, with them being removable. I'm currently using the v20. Its a huge phone and I love it. But it being completely flat does hurt my hands if I'm hokding it with one hand for a while like I'm watching youtube. Also ive noticed that the screen burning is getting worse in LG devices. I'm still a fan and love their phones. But they need to stick to what made them differnet instead of following the trend

      King Wiwuz IV No, 4000 is quite a lot to ask. Just depends on how the phone handles it. LG V30 has 3300mah and it is a beast with its battery usage.

      dvdchas I totally agree, after using OLED, I never want to return to LCD. Notch is ugly and if I wanted a good speaker... Id buy one. LG V30 is better than this phone.

    Great review. This phone stands out for two reasons at least, a very low SAR value and the manual mode in the camera. You can take great night sky pics (my friend took photos of Aurora borealis) with an older LG phone and I was blown away. Neither Samsung, nor the iPhone gives you such precise manual mode control as LG. After using a S8 for 1+ year, I must say the LG software is a bit lagging. Overall it is a great phone for 1/3 rd the price of other flagship phones.

      The v20 is by far the best LG phone, it has a really useful second screen, removable battery and a micro SD card slot, fingerprint scanner, amazing camera with a wide angle lense and more. I suggest anyone that still has the g4 to upgrade to the v20.

      +Dschinghis Khan: Not yet. I bought it used about a year ago for 120$ and the previous user claimed some hardware change was done by LG for free (here in Germany) because of bootlooping. Until now it runs very smooth = )
      Thx for the hint at the v20 guys. I will lookout for a used V20 if i need a new phone in the next few years : ) (I have no desire to live at the tech frontier in the smartphone market)
