Normally the sense I get from this song is along the lines of "I would gladly suffer in your place," but the visuals here turn it more into "I would cast you into the depths of hell with no hesitation if it frees me."
I really like that interpretation!
I got to the same interpretation as your first one, but apparently Kate Bush herself stated something else. ""It's saying if the man could be the woman and the woman the man, if they could make a deal with God, to change places, that they'd understand what it's like to be the other person and perhaps it would clear up misunderstandings. You know, all the little problems; there would be no problem."" quoted from an interview in 85.
This video gives me heavy purgatory-vibes, and "running up that hill" along with the portal she sees of the two of them reminds me Sisyphus. So kind of like she's stuck JUST out of reach, after having made a deal for him to not suffer, and he's completely clueless (probably because he's so focused on his guitar).

specifically for the show it makes me interpret it as though max feels survivor's guilt and wants to swap places with billy

With this cover: She kills Vecna and destroys the concept of the upside down.
That would be sick! Max is probably in Vecna's mind right now so she could probably try to take him down from within. The others take care of him from the outside.

Literally clicked this like “it’s not gonna be as good as Anna’s” not seeing the second half and then was VERY pleasantly surprised. And making it metal just WORKS. The drums and guitar are great!
'Let's exchange the experience' just sounds so epic. Like David over Goliath, or a D&D party finally at that point that they can take the BBEG in their Dungeon Master's campaign. It just conveys such a change in the power dynamic and I freaking love it!😮

Do any of you realize how absolutely wild it has been for someone who has loved this song for literal decades to suddenly find it *EVERYWHERE* ?
I first found the song via placebo. I honestly liked both equally. The Placebo version I later saw in a really great AMV in 2006 based around the anime Kanon. It went from being "This is a good song" to "I'm keeping this with me forever" So to think that this song of all songs would suddenly explode back to popularity and spawn amazing covers such as this honestly boggles my mind.
Thanks @RichaadEB and @annapantsu You both have been making good stuff for a while (Especially you Rich. Ever since I saw your cover of Bad apple with Christina Vee ((Oddly enough we used to be friends way way way back in 09)) I've been a fan. Anna, you've done some amazing covers, and I enjoyed your Sea Shanties.

I can't get over how fucking fantastic this version is. It's absolutely brilliant. The singer does an amazing take on top of an incredibly well produced and inspired genre reinterpretation.
Phenomenal! The layered guitar work in the background is some of the most tasteful I’ve ever heard.
It builds the solo quite nicely and when it hits it's pure bliss
Anna's voice is breathtaking... but it makes it so easy to overlook RichaadEB absolutely *shredding* in the background. Stunning across the board.
This is the best cover. There will never be a superior one. I felt that the guitar solo could've been a tad louder but that's just me nitpicking. Excellent job to all involved! Loved the visuals

I really like how Anna added so much punch to her vocal delivery compared to her own cover. Of course, one could say, because you have to when it is metal. But it's not automatic that someone known for doing Disney covers will nail a metal cover - and she absolutely did! :D

There's a lot of ways to interpret the thematics of the song in the show. But it feels like its tone in the context is swapping places so Billy could be the one to live.

I like that Anna is doing so many metal collabs. She's got the voice for it, though it doesn't really seem like the style/genre she'd do on her own channel.

This is the first cover that does what I've been doing with it--throwing a solo after the bridge (as it should be). Absolutely brilliant. Anna's voice on it is the best I've heard as well, does justice to Kate's original. I've heard a few dozen covers since Season 4 ended, and this one right here is the best version of the song I've heard since the live version with Gilmour on guitar and Franklin on bass. Even has the booming thunder-like drums.
