    Today a review od the new updated solar atomic square the GW-M5610 U.
    With a new module 3495 that is in the newly updated solar squares, GW-M5610U, GW-S5600U and GW-5000U which are recognized by the letter U at the end. The older versions were GWM5610 and GW-5000 without the U, Casio has fixed pretty much all the issues I personally had with the older versions and made one of the best square lineups to date
    I also did a user manual and how-to guide on using all the functions of the GWM 5610 GShock!!

    I’ve got the previous 5610 model and it’s easily the best day-to-day watch I own. This new model has obvious improvements - but I can’t upgrade, the point of the watch is that it’s set and done and then lasts for a decade or more - replacing it every time a fancier model comes out seems to go against the ethos of owning the watch.

      That's how I feel 😮. And you know, I have two other watches as well! The previous 5610 I own is the thing I wear every day for work or outdoor activities...that's 90 percent of the time! And it's unkillable. Just, it will never really win any awards for looks so I have one of those citizen promaster lands but Japan domestic market ones, just for a bit of exotic flare...and really quite tough as well, but can be worn with more smart casual clothing. And then I do own one of those Seiko automatics, field watches, which is proving to be more accurate than I thought and rather good as well for dress clothes..going out ...so just when I've thought I've gotten all the watches I need, this shows up 🤔

    I purchased this watch just for fun because of its retro style. It ended up being my main watch! It's very light and comfortable. It has all functions an everyday watch needs. It wears good from business casual down to sportswear. Suitable for field work also. Not overly worried I might scratch it. Also do not need to remove it to do delicate work, does not bother me. It even took some bites from my German Sheppherd... Still looks like new, not a single dent on it. 💯

    I flipped many watches over the past 10 years but this is the only one that I've kept around and I'm never intending to sell it. I have the original non-U version and I appreciate the improvements they made (I'm looking at you, useless timer subdial) but I think both models have the most important stuff being solar and atomic. I've modded mine with the orange combo of the MR4 version (rescue) but the standard black casing is really good too and it works with a lot of outfits. Combined with the red line around the display I instantly fell in love with this watch back in the day and I still adore it. I'd say if you are thinking about buying a dw-5600 save up a bit and buy this instead, it has solar and atomic, a better display (bolder numbers), full auto EL and a really cool milled case back. Most importantly, it has a standard adjust button, not the stupid recessed type the dw lineup has. One of the best price/value watches ever made.

I think they could have done better by offering a night mode like the Timex Ironman. You hold down the light for 3 seconds to activate it. Then the light will go on for 3 seconds with the push of any button. It's very helpful for operating the timer or stop watch in the dark.

    I love your videos! Great voice and right to the point. I just got this watch. I had the normal 5600e (battery) and wanted this look. Two other things that I noticed (and don't like) are the very strange over contrast to the display, which results in a very narrow viewing angle vs. the normal squares. For example, glancing down while driving, typing, laying on the couch and not wanting to move the dog, etc.. I cant just glance down and read the time anymore, I have to turn my wrist and face it to my eyes vs. the battery versions with lower contrast, this was never a thing. The second thing, is the tones on this watch are VERY low. (even lower than the atomic GW6900 that I also have). So, I think in the end the thing that frustrates me the most, is that it seems Casio can just never seem to "get it all right, at the same time". They make you choose what features you want and then your stuck with the other things along the way. (hard to read screen, terrible backlight, or a size that is just foolish too large). I think they should make less watches and focus on getting ONE really perfect ;-)

    The 5610u, with its upgraded module may not only be the best all round value in Casio squares, it may become the only watch you need.
    I’ve read more than a few stories on threads like these that owners who originally bought this as a beater for times when using their more expensive watches is risky, have found it took over as the one that gets the most wrist time in their collections.
    If that sounds like an exaggeration, consider this:
    * This simple resin watch is lighter than any metal one, including titanium models. It is a featherlight 50gm (depending on strap/band choice) making it very comfortable to wear.
    * Its matte finish is not only stealthily cool (something, oddly, many metal designs seek to emulate) it is almost impossible to mark or blemish and seems to ‘renew’ itself with a splash of water and a wipe-down. Not a fingerprint magnet either unlike metal watches.
    * It’s a watch (lest we forget) that tells time more accurately than the most expensive mechanical watches money can buy. Think about that for a moment.
    * It enjoys its own iconic pedigree in watchmaking and design history. It’s as instantly recognisable and fondly reminisced over from one’s youth as a Vespa scooter or a VW ‘bubble’. Yet, it is just as, if not more popular today.
    * It’s a resin G-Shock so it’s as close to indestructible as it gets in a watch.
    * It’s affordable to just about anyone. A watch “for the rest of us”.
    As the song says “You don’t always get what you want but … you just might find you get what you need.” So too, one just might find, after a long and expensive watch collecting journey, that this could be “the One” they were looking for all along. Who knew, right? :-)

    • @totallyfrozen
      @totallyfrozen Před 2 lety

      I prefer the look of EL, but I heard that the EL backlight doesn’t have the long lifespan of the LED, so Casio changed it. So supposedly, the LED will last longer than the EL will. I don’t know. I have a Timex Indiglo watch that I’ve had for almost 20 years and the Indiglo backlight still works. I wonder if the lifespan issue is just a corporate rumor, I wonder if Timex didn’t threaten to sue Casio for stealing technology. Meh, what do I know?

    • @traviswalker8933
      @traviswalker8933 Před 2 lety +1

      @@totallyfrozen it's not a corporate rumor. EL backlight degrades overtime and it has been seen in older G-Shocks with this backlight. It depends upon how much you use it.

    I've never owned a G-shock but I have bought Casio's for over 30 years and yes I love their watches but the straps only last for 2 years on average for me. I have the Casio W-218H and the strap looks to be the same as the one in this video and already after just one year I get the feeling it's starting to weaken already. Really good video and the tutorial one too, thanks.

    I may be in the minority here but I actually really like the G Shocks where the backlight stays on for as long as you hold the button down. To me, that seems most functional.
    I have the auto backlight version also but that honestly just gets annoying. It often lights up when you don’t need it at all.

    I just received the same model. Some don't like the change CASIO made to the light technology, but I like it.
    I chose the tough Solar with multi-band 6, so it will update itself with the atomic clock from the wwv radio signal broadcast from Colorado. I was concerned that here in Southern California may be too far to receive the signal, but the first night the watch updated fine, and I have no reason to think the technology won't continue to work just as well.

    • @damyr
      @damyr Před 2 lety +2

      I've already heard from few people they dislike the bluetooth option. I'm not really sure why, because there's no reason for that. I have a GW-B5600 with BT, and I don't even use that option. Tho, it may come handy in the case you're out of reach of the radio signal. So, the BT option doesn't hurt the watch in absolutely any way, but it still can be useful when or if you ever need it.

    • @nicolascarrion5055
      @nicolascarrion5055 Před 2 lety +1

      @@damyr BT is the response to the Millennial generation that are cellphone-centric, and a step ahead toward the Smartphone market that took Casio by storm. Casio, considering its experience and innovation under the watch market, could really step up into that market, for some reason they want to differentiate themselves by not doing what everybody else is doing, which I am fine with that.
      Atomic radio controlled has some downsides, reception and sync can be tricky, and also some governments are questioning the need to keeping the RC towers active (in the states they want to get rid of it). I'd say that BT and RC can coexist, if it is just for the time sync sake and you can disable BT on the device itself. I bought one of these G-Squad GBD-200, with all the BT nonsense and I cannot wait to sell it....

    • @damyr
      @damyr Před 2 lety +1

      @@nicolascarrion5055 Never had it, but I guess GBD-200 looks and feels like a smartwatch, so I feel you. I dislike smartwatches, too.
      But GW-B5600 is different. It's just like a classic G-shock with inbuilt BT, but it doesn't actually need BT connection. BT is just there for your convenience, and with very limited options.
      I never use it anyway, but it's nice to have one more option, just in case. Especially if one day radio towers will be scrapped.
      So, no need to worry.
      Btw, if you want to know more details, this channel made a tutorial video about GW-B5600, and there you can actually see its BT functions/options.
