IDW had the best Starscream quote:
"I killed Metalhawk. I took control of Cybertron under false pretenses. I lied and deceived and did it all for glory and you know what? I'm still the best the best leader in the history of Cybertron. I didn't subjugate the populace for eons, I never plunged us into four million years of war. I didn't even come back from the grave to try and destroy the world multiple times. History will see me, at worst, as a step in the right direction."
This is Starscream. He knows he's horrible. He just doesn't give a damn.
If f***ing starscream is the best leader cybertron ha ever had, then they were basically f***ed from the start.
@@dragonlord3376 Yeah, I don't think Cybertronians were particularly a peaceful race to begin with. Between the Quintessons, the dectatorial council and the decepticons, they were always under "bad/evil" leadership. Even among the primes, there wasn't a peace.

Armada Starscream will always be my favorite version of the character. He actually got character development beyond simply “power-hungry traitor.”
Starscream is probably the most complicated character in the whole mythos, as is demonstrated by the occasional story depicting him as fundamentally good, or at least less of an outright villain. Starscream is the perfect example of a character guided almost exclusively by his own pride. His origins as a scientist turned more than competent fighter probably leads him to believe he must carry the best traits of both. He is reasonably talented as a tactician, has the grudging respect of most of his colleagues, and can scheme with the best of them when the stars align. It is his stratospheric pride, the belief that everything can be perfect as long as he is the one making the decisions, that holds Starscream back from fulfilling his full potential. He makes truly stupid decisions at times. He schemes without fully thinking things through. And he focuses on his impending glorious future right at the moment when he should be more focused on the present. It is those fleeting moments when Starscream lets go of his pride, such as universe-ending events, when we see what the character could become. It's also worth noting that his observed cowardice is often the product of pragmatism more than an unwillingness to put himself at risk. He will grovel without hesitation when his life depends on it, but he is not afraid to go into battle if he thinks he has a fighting chance.
The IDW actually explores all these aspects of Starscream in great detail. He even became the supreme leader of Cybertron and actually tried to do the right thing or at least his definition of "the right thing." He was by far the most complex and nuanced character in the comics.
Starscream it's also noted to be rather good at picking up when other characters's plans (nominally smarter villains like Unicron, Megatron or even Shockwave) have holes that could cost them the victory. He's rather good at picking other characters' flaws (Shockwave's orderly behavior, Megatron's arrogant self-righteousness, Unicron's trust on him and so on) and exploit them.
And if you think about it, in a lot of incarnations, specially Prime, Megatron and other decepticons are often ridiculous abusive to him, maybe his cowardice it's actually a result of the war as well as the constant abuse he receives from his leader. Granted wherever this treatment for the incarnation in turn is tragically sympathetic or just plain karmic is up in the air, but still evil or not constant abuse might have taken a toll on him.
@@clownplayer7265 Unicron having trust in anyone is well something I didn't think I would ever read
@@theenderdestruction2362 Well, it worked with a "weakling" (weakling in Unicron terms I mean) like Galvatron. Is not like a little ghost like Starscream can take advantage of him even if he got weakened, he's still the great Unicron, right? As someone who started with Armada, I kinda wanna see the return of a noble starscream . It looks like they are kinda doing that with his sacrifice in the newer story
Idw starscream was kinda like mix between the two kinds of starscream. One of the strorys was genuinely heart wrenching
The story where they’re being mentally assaulted by vigilem and you discover what starscream would’ve looked like had he not been cold-constructed made me kinda sad lol
Would be nice if we had one for the animated series stuff again. For me, it’s only so much I can see the the coward usurper trope so much before I get bored of it. From the newer stuff they don’t even make him stand out anymore. Bayverse did it even worse. I never noticed he was in a scene until a character refers to him by name, he’s so missable.
"As your new leader I.. Who interrupts my coronation?"
"Coronation Starscream?"
"Megatron, is that you?"
"Here's a hint..."

pious83 standing in front of a green screen, covering in green paint and tape, trying not to scream at Sideswipe, Sunstreaker, Skywarp, and Thundercracker?
Coronation Starscream? This is bad comedy!
HEY! THATS MY LINE!
I love Starscream's cunning and deceitful nature and while his moments of begging and cowardliness are good comic relief I like it more when Starscream is also as good of a warrior as he is a schemer.
I feel like starscream needs more respect, I mean in the entire transformers franchise he has one of the highest kill counts, he was ruler of both the decepticons and cybertron itself plus he's a cool character
Unless your name is "The Joker", most "comic relief" characters are prone to get their badass, smart or impactful moments neglected by the people.
I love Prime Starscream but once he moved into politics, IDW Screamer became my favourite. It's a pity him and Megatron never got to meet before the end to see how much they had both changed and maybe get closure on their messed up relationship.
Starscream in the 1986 movie: "Finally Megatron is no more! Now I rule the Decepticons!"
Galvatron: "I'm about to end this man's whole career."
More like I'm about to end this man's existence
And he did.
Hey at least Megatron didn’t kill him... I mean he did but he was Galvatron so it’s different.
lol "what is this? bad comedy?!"
More like his life
The fact the Starscream sacrifice to himself for the Autobots and Decepticons, makes me want to cry
So all 3 seekers in the comics went good, Thundercracker and skywarp joined the US military, and starscream gave up his life to save everyone. This is why I love the idw comics
Starscream was my favorite character in Transformers Prime. He easily had the most character development out of the whole cast, and Steve Blum's performance as him was just great.

After Armada, even the mention of Starscream making a heroic sacrifice is enough to make me tear up. Such a well written and tragic character, Starscream as a whole. I would love to see more depressing stories with him coming to terms with his reality of being a failure. Across the transformers multiverse, I believe that Starscream truly is the most tragic transformer as a character overall.

In my opinion I think that it was Chris Latta's voice that made Starscream so epic.
No doubt
Chris Latta’s voice was the foundation for basically every other incarnation’s voice. Same for Scatman Crothers and Jazz.
I wouldn't disagree with you.
Yup
It blew my mind to learn that not only was he the voice of Starscream and Reflector, but also Wheeljack and Sparkplug.
The IDW comics also had it be revealed that Starscream was constructed cold, and that his body was one of a mass produced line, which constantly grated on him.
cold? why does temp matter?
@@FerrousPrime its not about temp cold in transformers is a shorten of cold construction in idw there two ways cybertronian are born first is forge which sparks are born thru hots pots made by victor sigma the other is cold is done by using the matrix energy to make a spark usally they make so much they have to be in froze stasis till the bodys are made thus why its called cold or called construction

What really upset me was that Energon had him reprogrammed and permanently downgraded into a heartless villain. It's sad to not see him get a happy ending.
Bear D3 agreed. They could’ve left Starscream dead as a hero. They could’ve have had it as Skywarp, Thundercracker, Sunstorm anyone. But noooooo
@@The_Exiled Honestly why wasn't Energon Starscream just called Skywarp instead.
Energon Starscream is extremely loyal to Megatron, has a dark color scheme, and can even teleport, just like G1 Skywarp

Transformers Armada's depiction of Starscream was the best version of him. A well-written script of character development for Starscream was inspiring for me to watch as a kid despite him not getting enough screentime for it. Seeing Starscream develop a conscious & moral value moved me, as well as his heroic & valiant death that sparked the unison of Autobots & Decepticons for the *FIRST TIME* in Transformers history, albeit it was only temporary.
Cybertron may have revived him, but it wasn't for the better if we're being honest.

Starscream is one of those characters that’s just good, seemingly not matter what you do with him. In his classic role of scheming second in command, he’s the good old Saturday morning cartoon villian we all loved to hate growing up. But he’s at his most interesting when his character is taken in a new direction. I think all of us deep down are all rooting for starscream in a way. He’s a conniving, arrogant, rat but after seeing him fail so much and continue to believe In himself (no matter how delusional that belief may be) you kinda sympathize for him. Like Tom in Tom and Jerry. You just start to feel bad for the guy at certain point. Not bad enough to legitimately want him to win, but bad enough that you want to see him achieve something. This is what makes his moments of rare introspection and self reflection so interesting, and even a little inspiring. It’s cathartic to finally see him realize that he’s his own worst enemy, and actually make some positive changes in his life. Even if those changes don’t end with him becoming a full on good guy, literally anything is a step up from his default state. Anyways thank you for coming to my TED talk on why starscream is (in my opinion) the best deception
I usually go for Animated Starscream as my favourite version of the character. I've got to say though, your recap of Armada Starscream's sacrifice really seems to have dragged up some deeply seeded childhood trauma I'd buried deep down inside me.

I remember a one-off UK comic book where the Classic Pretender Starscream actually befriended a young human (maybe a reference to what happened in one of the cartoons).
I also recall that the UK comics gave Starscream's back-story as being one of the leaders of Vos (a Cybertronian city-state), which was destroyed in a nuclear war. Megatron famously united the survivors of Vos and its rival, Tarn, to form the Decepticons but it made sense that Starscream's treachery was an attempt to reclaim the position that he'd lost to Megatron (a far more charismatic personality in his younger days). With this in mind, Starscream abandoning Galvatron's warlike ways and becoming the leader of the peaceful Decepticons after the end of the Great War and ultimately giving his position and life in service of the entire Transformer race really is a logical end to his character arc.

Femboy Starscream.
Transformers Prime screamer is also the most unintentionally adorable. The way his wings flutter when bragging to shockwave about killing Cliffjumper is just cute! And don’t even get me started about the various funny noises he makes when scared and/or startled.
