ines is just a friend that likes gossip and who told betty about the affair. betty is the girl from cardigan on whom james (his perspective in song betty) cheated with augusta (her perspective in august)
I love how you inadvertently semi-quoted a lyric from Taylor's song, The Story of Us... "This is looking like a contest, of who can act like they care less" at 8:50ish 😂
"August" is one of my fave songs from this album. It sounds so nostalgic and romantic... I prefer the album version! Have a listen to the album after this. Thanks for the great reaction again!
9:05 Taylor actually has a lyric about this! From The Story of Us: “This is feeling like a contest of who can act like they care less, but I liked it better when you were on my side”
yep. it's her trademark to have upbeat songs with sad lyrics. she likes putting meaning into everything with those little details like 'rust on you door', 'salt air' in order to build a picture or a story line. when you think about the lyrics, it is a song about yearning for the person she thought was her 'one love' but left because she was just the distraction. the album is full of this emotional yearning whether it is for going back in time, for a person, for peace, for the good times, for becoming better version of yourself or just for your hopes to become reality. it gives the songs her trademark tinge of sadness and reminiscence of how reality broke down your hopes while you just try to move on. let's say, the emotions she conveys are real even if the storyline is a little fictional. she loves doing that: marking her songs with real emotions but having a bit of drama in the story. Love your reactions btw and how spot on you catch the meaning at first listen. :D
Actually, the melodic reference to "I want you back for good", would make totally sense, in the hypothetic case it was intentionally done, as originally "Augustina" wanted him back for good, in the storyline, but now accepts it as a good memory, and therefore changes the melodic line.
Still watching the reaction(and loving it btw), just wanted to correct one little thing: Ines is a gossip-y friend who tells betty that james was hooking up with some other girl. "Augustine" is "other girl" with whom james spends this summer with. So the main characters of the love triangle are betty(her pov is "cardigan"), james(his pov is "betty") and unnamed girl(that taylor is calling augustine or augusta in her head but is never name "in canon" and her pov obviously is this one) Love all your videos!
AUGUST is my favorite from the album, its just sounds so good :) If you have the time please listen to the album version its soo good esp the bridge part. In your own time ofc. :) You can really see Jack Antonoff really enjoying playing this song, you can tell its his fave, haha. Before Folklore came out Jack posted that his fave songs they worked together which are 'Mirrorball' and 'August'.
Wow I always thought the chorus of this song reminded me of something but I never knew what it was until today, it's totally Back For Good by Take That which I haven't listen in 10 years at least, great catch. And yeah, this is by far the popiest song in the album and I absolutely love it. Even with the sprinkled melancholy this song always makes me happy and cheers me up. Another great video.
the thumbnail XD another one of my faves on the album, and I appreciated your discussion/break down/commentary! tis a bop even if the lyrics could suggest otherwise, much like her songs Story of us and Holy ground, which I also love :D
I giggled at your comment about her not being overtly sexual. I was like. He needs to listen to her song dress, it’s her sexiest song and it’s amazing.
It's very real that sometimes you can't change your story cause it has its own mind😂 I'm a writer and writers always talk about how when someone says 'oh you wrote a good story', they'd think "oh I didn't write it. I just observed them and wrote what happened" LMAO yeah creative people are weird indeed
Can’t wait for you to get to evermore! Folklore is so great but evermore just stole me🥰 wish there was a long pond studio session for that album.😪 would love to hear your thoughts on the studio versions of these songs you’ve listened to so far as well if you do listen to them afterward. Just watched your Q&A and all of videos in general, and I just love your videos. Love how much you love music and think it’d be cool to hear like a song recommendation at the end of each video or something. Lots of Taylor fans love giving other music a try since we have always encouraged Taylor to experiment with her sound as much as she wants. Like working with Aaron dessner gave his band the national a lot of new fans, and also let us check out his new collab album released in like August that he did with some alternative artists and such. I think we would definitely enjoy giving a listen to songs you’ve been enjoying at the time of these videos!😊
FYI, when you get to the movie, click the plus sign to add it to your watchlist just so you can go straight to it later. There's an option to go to your watchlist on the top of the screen.
Referencing Take That... a man of culture! (Yes, I'm binging at this point, hahah). I LOVE this version of August. I feel like Folklore gets a lot more cohesive played this way. I understand the need of trying different productions and arrangements, but it separates the songs from each other sometimes. That's how I feel about this album and that's the reason why Evermore feels more "complete" to me, despite not having as much continuity lyric-wise. But this session? delightful!
this channel has become my peaceful place, i watch a video (maybe 2, maybe 3, or more...) each night before going to sleep. its my new routine, i love every part of these videos. greetings from Argentina!
This is one of my favorite tracks on the album / her whole discography! You should listen to the recorded version 😊 you’ll understand what Jack means when he says this song feels like soaring. I’m excited for you to listen on! Betty will make a lot more sense since listening to cardigan and august!!
Hello! Thank you for the video! Please pay attention to the young singer Diana Ankudinova.Make reactions to the songs of Wicked game, CAN'T HELP FALLING IN LOVE, Human🌞🌞🌞DIANA ANKUDINOVA is a talented young singer. I would like to know your opinion. I think you will be surprised. Diana has a very unusual voice and artistic presentation for her age.🌹🌹🌹 Thanks in advance
disney plus does the same thing for me too when it comes to the taylor swift special!! but when i’m watching phase 1 of marvel it remembers down to the minute of thor when i turned the tv off 🙄😭
I feel the same way Andrew. I don't like James. I think he sucks too. But hey, Taylor loves writing break-up songs and things that deal with matters of the heart. Oh Taylor lol. And DUDE! Nice little throwback to Take Back's "Back For Good"! Okay, so when I first listened to "August", I immediately was hearing 3 songs in this. One is The Sundays "Here's Where the Story Ends". Yes, it's a bit faster but still great if it's slowed down just a tad. And then my ear began to pick up The Cranberrie's "Linger". I don't know if it's the orchestral sound I'm picking up from both of these or what. Then, from hearing these two, my mind took me way back to Donna Lewis' "I Love You Always Forever" and the rhythm structure was almost like what you described at 13:14. It starts off slow, notes are held and sustained and then it goes into this faster pop tempo. For me, it makes this song sound nostalgic. I'm missing the 90's dude. I was born in '85 and I grew up listening to lots of great music with different fusions of genres blended into one. "August" just takes me back and not only does it make me feel good and happy listening to this song but I also kinda get teary-eyed because of what it reminds of and it makes miss a time in life that was pretty awesome. I love how Taylor captures a moment in time or a vibe that the listener then gets transported to a place they didn't know they'd end up at. This song swept me up and took me back. Anyways. I wish I was a musician. I would love to combine all of these songs as one. Wouldn't that be fun? lol. Take care and have a great weekend. PEACE!
Thank-you Andrew. I always enjoy your down to earth perspective. I know that what you are saying is just exactly what you feel, the definition of unpretentious.
Andrew! I think you really should make a lil cover (doesn't have to be polished) of whatever you're reacting to at the end of the video. I'm sure viewers will be interested and It's also chance to show more of you as a musician.
“Creative peoples are weird.” 😆 Yeah…you can’t always make the characters (or just-words in general) do what you want them to do. If you’re successful in breathing life into them, they live and sometimes drag you where they want to go….
Oh my God you unlocked a memory with Back for Good and that's totally why when I heard August for the first time I was like.. this sounds familiar. Holy shit thank you lol
Can you react to Cornelia Street (Live from Paris)? The original would probably be a bit too poppy for you but the song is one of my favorites! Been watching your videos for the past few days and been enjoying them!
I love when taylor complaints about her own lyrics like the way she was saying James just came back to Betty living the poor August 😂 I remember when she was learning the "look what you made me do" choreography for reputation tour and she was like omg that lyric is just repeating over and over again, AND I KNOW ITS MY FAULT 😂
I loved your little experiment calling out Disney Plus on the way they pretty much just push what they want you to watch because you're right all the other services if you type in Taylor she's going to be the first the top row
So, I had to check. The movie shows up first when I type "Taylo" and then she is first pick. But before that, she's not on the screen (unless I scroll) :D and I don't watch any of the shows they give as search results hahaha

Named for Inez, James, and Betty Reynolds….

The bridge of this song, man, it is so worth hearing the studio version
Please please please do
"August" is one of my fave songs from this album. It sounds so nostalgic and romantic... I prefer the album version! Have a listen to the album after this. Thanks for the great reaction again!

Jack’s excitement for playing this song and just for this song in general really embodies Swifties whenever Taylor releases anything 😂😂😂

The studio version of this song is A must listen.
You MUST listen to the studio version. The note you were trying to play at 19:59 - 20:07 was played with a violin on the album version.

I giggled at your comment about her not being overtly sexual. I was like. He needs to listen to her song dress, it’s her sexiest song and it’s amazing.
That… and “so it goes”

6:19 the entirety of Swifties had the exact same reaction when we first saw Taylor said Betty and James end up together

Awesome reaction! Anyway just to clarify, ines is the gossip girl and not August girl
The thumbnail 👌🏼👌🏼
Loved this reaction!
i didnt catch the changing the better age meaning until you said it
very very interesting!
Oh my God you unlocked a memory with Back for Good and that's totally why when I heard August for the first time I was like.. this sounds familiar. Holy shit thank you lol
I think you're spot on about the Disney conspiracy theory lol 😂
"I dont give a fuck..."
No. I do. I care!
Lol thank you for reading my thought bubble
Ugh- Love this! And I'm not even a big Taylor Swift fan. Big Andrew fan!
You should listen to Halsey’s Manic album! It uses that quote from eternal sunshine and she has really interesting music
Omg it totally has a sound of back for good from take that. Probably why I love both 😂
love the thumbnail!!!
Thanks
Can you react to Cornelia Street (Live from Paris)? The original would probably be a bit too poppy for you but the song is one of my favorites! Been watching your videos for the past few days and been enjoying them!

czcams.com/video/DtzhzrX0ye0/video.html
my favorite song on folklore
My guess with the search is that you gotta start typing "longpond" and it would have popped right up lol
Ahaha the thumbnail!!
Please, make a reaction to the songs of the singer Diana Ankudinova.
‘becky with the good hair” mhmmm did she get her weave from the dollar store too?
I loved your little experiment calling out Disney Plus on the way they pretty much just push what they want you to watch because you're right all the other services if you type in Taylor she's going to be the first the top row
So, I had to check. The movie shows up first when I type "Taylo" and then she is first pick. But before that, she's not on the screen (unless I scroll) :D
and I don't watch any of the shows they give as search results hahaha
That is some freaky shit about the search bar not showing you Taylor Swift 😂
song’s studio version is more glorious
Creative weirdos unite!!
dw dude we don’t like James at all 🥹🫶
