    Dark Side of the Moon holds the record by far, for the most charted weeks on the Billboard 200. 917 consecutive weeks, From 1973 through 1988, A classic album that will never be duplicated.

    • @andreabindolini7452
      @andreabindolini7452 Před 2 lety +2

      Actually, in 1988 a change of rules happened, and the presence in the chart of albums older than fifteen years was forbidden. This is why, not coincidentally, Dark Side was ruled out of the Billboard 200 in that year. Otherwise, it would have remained for many years to come. Occasionally, the album pops in the charts even today. Truly incredible.

  • @centuryrox
    @centuryrox Před 4 lety +12

    If you didn't already know what The Great Gig in the Sky was about:
    Pink Floyd keyboard player Rick Wright wrote this song, which is about life, gradually descending into death. Hence the angrier and more intense first half with a dying person refusing to "go gently into that good night."The second half is gentler, as the dying person gives into the inevitable and fades away.

    Oh god does this bring back that summer when I was 15. I don't think there was a teenager in my high school of 2800 that didn't own this album. Winterland was still open, you could still see the stars in the darkness of Golden Gate Park at night, the beach parties were exactly what you imagine, the acid was flowing and a lot of young women lost their virginity that year while the songs of Dark Side of the Moon played. It's been 47 years and I still remember exactly where I was the moment I first heard this. Damn, I'm getting so nostalgic. Better get up and go do laundry. Thanks for taking me back to some of the best times of my life.

    The Great Gig in the Sky goes through all the phases of accepting imminent death, starting with denial and ending with acceptance. There is a very faint whispering towards the end of the song, 'I never said I was afraid to die.'. That song, even though I have heard it literally hundreds and hundreds of times, still gives me goosebumps every time! And yes, Pink Floyd is my all time favourite group, David Gilmour is my all time favourite guitarist.

    Great reaction. The music is timeless. I started listening to this back in the early 80's at the age of 13 or 14, I was literally locked in a dark closet with a Walkman and forced to (thanks to an older Cousin). As you get older the lyrics change and change again. To think Waters wrote these lyrics when he was in his late 20's. And the solo in Time has always been my favorite along with Page's in Since I've been loving You. You should check out Eric Johnson if you haven't, his music is very different song to song and even though he is probably one of the greatest guitar plays out there I would suggest Song for Lynette (in fact the entire Venus Isle album).

    Here is her story of how she came to be on one of the greatest album in the world.

    Ah, mate..... Any pink floyd or British bands from the 60's to the 00's.... Hit me up bruv if you need any suggestions. It's such an honour to see people listening to Pink Floyd albums for the first time. We've done pretty good in the UK for good music. Peace and love from Lancashire UK ❤️

    I think the explosion at the end of on the run is representative of an airplane crash, Roger Waters did have a fear of flying.

    They had a hard time selling tickets and albums then hit pay dirt with this one, then copied it over and over again only getting more depressing. I did see them three times, once in Carnegie Hall, saw them on this tour and the Meddle tour. I finally gave up on them, just to damn depressing. Just my opinion as a 50+ year musician and we all know what opinions are like.

    Weirdest thing with this album. I’ve always hated it for some reason. Never understood the worship of this album. Just doesn’t resonate. Still think Pink Floyd is atleast top ten rock band in history.
