Great! astonishing harmonic and melodic blending of all instruments, perfect team play and great shooting of the video.Tthanx very much for this... realy a pleasure to watch an listen.
Best fusion band around lately
Outstanding performance by Simon Phillips 🥁and his band👍
Simon is The Great Drumer in this Planet .❤❤❤
Grandios! Simon, great drummer! But, of course, all here are great musicians! 💪🏻👏🏻👍🏻🙏🏻
lets take a moment and appreciate the lovely audio done by WDR.
It's amazing How the soul expresses itself through the instruments As they Have an amazing rhythmical conversation. As the rhythm of the drum encourages The feeling of the groove.😊
Virtuosos one and all !! Fabulous thanks guys !
Ernest is REALLY, F***** It Up!!!!
Creme always rises to the top and that is exactly where you want to be with Simon Phillips ! He always raises the level of all the artists who play around him and this concert is another that exemplifies same.Makes no matter, Jazz, Rock or Progressive Rock, Phillips plays at an elite level.A great concert with everyone playing tight ..and with respect ! I am 75 and played coronet, trumpet and baritone since age 10 and can attest to the mastery of instrumentation that is shown here.Great ordered soounds !
Respect Sir. U got it right!! I'm a drummer age 42 and i cannot agree more with U. So frustating that he gets so little attention from the mainstream music industrie. I know why...only 0000000.1% or so know what he's doïng and did. To bad...
@@jenteworrell4065 Paste-ing this comment from the comment I made on John Hunter Drummer. Thought it made sense here too:
I'm not a drummer (although I love fool around on drums) but a guitar player and sometimes produce and arrange my own music. To me Simon is complete to the verge of not being spotted where ever he plays on a record or live. I mean, at the age of 20 he had played with Jack Bruce (How's Tricks? album) and with Judas Priest (Sin After Sin album; there's a great live gig from NAMM 2009 on YT where he plays Dissident Agressor with Andy Timmons). Then Mike Oldfield, Jeff Beck, Pretenders, Pete Townshend and Toto and countless gigs as session and live drummer. To me he's got a kind of 'light touch' in everything he plays, and a groove!
This kid on sax is blowing some serious changes. My goodness..Hella tight Quintet. 🎵
Spricht besser deutsch, als die deutsche Außenministerin. ❤ Superschönes Konzert, danke für den Upload!
Every line-up Simon gets, they are all Simply Brilliant ! This Version of Protocol is full of Creative Excellence !!!!
An honour to play and compose with you. Xxxx
Simon is still my all time favorite drummer !

Musicisti fantastici....Simon Philips è uno dei più grandi batteristi.... controllo, dinamiche, armonie...il bassista è spettacolare....gli altri non scherzano.... grazie...
Top! Congratulations!!!! I'm from Brazil.
Ernest Tibbs on Bass...wonderful.
I would love to get a chance to jam with Tibbs one day.
That guy is so passionate about his playing.
An intensely focused player! Faultless.
@@pa.laubel3696 I saw him twice with Holdsworth and and Chad W in 2008. Superb... as you'd expect.
What an incredible tone.
From Toto to Hiromi Trio Project to Judas Priest to Derek Sherinian to Jeff Beck, Simon Phillips is one of the greatest drummers of all time and one of the true masters of the drums, Protocol have had many great lineups but this incarnation is just a monster powerhouse and the finest collection of musicians ever assembled. This band rocks!
Simon Phillips is one of those drummers who just knows what the music needs. He always seems to put just what the music calls for into exactly the right moment in just the right way. Sax player isn't bad either ;) really reminds me of Bill Evans.

Maestro Simon on the drums. The legendary, open-handed , all time great drummer.
This is the finest fusion there is. This is as sophisticated as it is eloquent. Phenomenal.
wow! great band! great Simon, what a drummer!
Alex Sill ! Modern holdsworth.
Appreciation to Simon for talking in german, it took me few years to learn it on communication level ;) Wonderful and humble musician.
super nummer 🙃😄
With Otmaro on keyboards it can only be good
What can i say Protocol are top musitions with Mr Phillips
One of my all time favorite drummers!!
... as if the great times of fusion, 70s-80s, continue even greater, george duke smiling from above - what an amazing human machine is working here - corona-anesthesia is just blown away in a super-smooth operation of joy of playing ...
Ottmaro, my all favorite keyboardist. Best all keys award.
Tight, tight, tight. Love the bass and drums relationship, the gorgeous compositions - I haven't heard Simon make a mistake in his entire career. And did I say they're tight!
Simon's drums always sound wide open and natural... love it!
the drums sound INCREDIBLE - those toms!
And with the WDR making the sound you got it perfect!
Great band, great gig and my favourite drummer... and I worked with many... great kit, almost as many toms as Terry Bozzio 🤣
Thankyou.
Glad you like it! Keep following to our channel!
Magic melodic drummer, super sound, virtuosity of the tempo and the band, inventive music. Thank.
Got to see Simon and Al Di Meola in Houston many years back, Awesome show!
This the best concert I've seen in years. Absolutely stunning.
What a band! Perfection.
SIMMON,YOUR PLAYING IS ELEGENT.the sound you pull out of your drum kit is beautiful. You truly are a master at your craft. Absolutely love what you have put together here.!!!
Not only is Simon one of the greatest drummers of all time, my personal fave of all time. But he is also the most prolific JazzFusin composer of all time, writing all his own compositions.
Τι ήχος.❤κορυφαίοι.🎉
2:15 Atomic clocks work exactly to the millionth of a second because these clocks follow the clock of simon Phillips
:-)
It’s all about the clock !
Wrong. Scientists created atomic clocks to find out how Simon Phillips plays.😀
Hahahah, so true.
Thank you so much for this concert footage. 👌🏿👌🏿
Greetings from Uganda 🇺🇬👊🏿🖤
Great drummer--best drum sound ever. You can tell he pays attention to that.
he's a sound engineer aswell
Absolutely brilliant band... Simon Phillips is definitely a god on drumkit!
Spain
What the heck is this...where have I been?
This is outstanding!!
Wonderful band and music. Definitely one of the most important fusion bands today and among my favorites of all time. Simon is amazing and has consistently produced music of outstanding quality year after year. Thank you, Simon and band for sharing this beauty with us - my life is more enjoyable and meaningful for your efforts.
Before COVID hit, I had enjoyed watching Protocol play in Ronnie Scott's, London, every year they appeared there. Have seen Andy Timmons, Greg Howe and most recently Alex Sill on the guitar. A different experience each time and some of my favourite Ronnie Scott's gigs have been Protocol. For sure my favourite current fusion line up around!
The sound mix is as good as CD. Incredible
Yupp! In Leverkusen this quality is standard! Made by the WDR!
This is just the best, who are those 39 that gave thumbs down? oh well i suppose you cant please everyone. Simon you are such an inspiration, just awesome.
Justin B. fans, with there wet pussy's.
12:31 quantum collapse ...brilliant!!
Real Progressive Art.
Non ci sono molte parole per definire concerti come questo.....c'è tutto, perizia tecnica, feeling, impatto sonoro e visivo. Simon Phillips è un batterista dotato di una tecnica straordinaria e sopraffina.
I love Circle Seven. I never want that song to end.
Sax is amazing.
This band cooks sooo good! They should be on Food Network.
Tasty!
Nice with the addition of a saxplayer!!
And his tone is HUGE! Saw them live last year in Belgium. It was epic!
Wow - smoking musicians and arrangements...
사이몬! 당신의 드럼사운드와 음악철학을 존경합니다.
47:06...man o man..!!
I love the mix of this video !!!!
This so fucking great. Those younger cats are killin' it.
Jazz fusion all the way!
33:20 beautiful!!!
WoooW.....
Simon just keeps bringin' it!
Simon Phillips on the drums, Amazing drumsound and a great drummer!
Just discovered this. Amazing music.
drum tone sounds like ez drummer to my ears. specially the drum solo :)
Amazing music!! Long live, Simon!
What an over the top performance!! Thank you to Simon and the band just amazing!!
Simply beyond brilliance. Thanks guys.
High class the playing of these musicians.
This is great! What a band Simon has at the moment 👌🏻
You mean Protocol 3 or 4? 'Cause this is 3... Anyway it pays to have talent and friends at good places, and God knows Simon has plenty of both.
Or is Protocol4? Gosh I'm getting confused myself lol. In any case this is the best iteration of the band so far IMHO :D
Kaveman Karl I think this is 4? 🤔
@@timpricedrums Really? Not too familiar with 'em yet...
@@kavemankarl2588 Now they are up to 5 xD
Simone, my favorite drummer so diverse.
no words to express the freshness of this in my ears. Thank you
Very good that you uploaded this to CZcams so it is preserved. I was there, to the right of the stage, by the guitarist!
Can't thank you enough. Been killing to see them somewhere close to Spain! Ernest Tibbs has to be in my top 3 basemen. Check out a 19 year old SciFi on Judas Priest's Sin after Sin, check out the track Sinner. He had been playing professionally for about 6 years at this point. Listening to him developing his signature sound. Great track if you're a metal fan. Twin axes of KK and Tipton and a rollicking Phillips.
It’s the directors job to have that conversation with them. That is, if the director happens to share your thinking. Cam ops take their cues from the director, who may not understand drumming.
Love this music, hope I get to hear the 32nd Anniversary Tour😀.
Until the 40th Anniversary Tour!
I’m so out of it. Love Simon and Protocol but thought they had never been to Yoshis in Oakland California. Wrote to Yoshis booking and to Simons booking and hooked them up to arrange a tour date at this great venue. But Pandemic came…………..so thus my wish for an adjusted Anniversary Tour. I’m in healthcare for schools, so I should be more patient. Looking forward to the day😌
I actually went to see them a few days prior to that recording. Simon's friend with the owner of a small club in Verviers, Belgium. So he drops by from time to time. I'm standing first row, stage is maybe 0.7m high max. I could've just hopped on it. It's really amazing to see such greats up close
czcams.com/video/hi-kiTwFfxI/video.html
Simon on drums, I cant complain. Can't really hear Alex most of the time but he gets out on the solo's. Great band with this line up of players and they got Steve Smiths band name from a few years ago. I think it is providing the world with a necessary snapshot of this great music. Very melodic for this type of song structure. Seems to be more blending with ProgRock at times then it goes more jazzy.
Have to agree on the mix. Many times you can hardly the guitar and the bass is perhaps too on top.
Saw them last Friday night in Sellersville, PA. "Tight" hardly comes close. And as good as they ALL were, Alex and Jacob must have had two bowls of Wheaties each that morning. They would lock-in and go for broke. I hope Simon taped it. Would be a shame for that experience to be limited to just those of us that were there.
It is awesome to see Simon performances.
Amazing sound! perfect performance and REALLY INSPIRING MUSIC AND MUSICALITY!!!!
Superb. THIS is music!
S S As opposed to ?
Anything that isn’t music!
O ! My. Been waiting for a concert hi def. Sound. New tunes. There it is. Thank u so much for uploading.
