    My girlfriend made this yesterday without the mushrooms since she hates mushrooms and we LOVED it. As a keto couple this dish knocked it out of the park from all angles. Definitely will be making this again soon!

    Made three of these for Thanksgiving yesterday (20 people). People who don’t usually like mushrooms were loving it. This was a huge hit, I used a double smoked bacon and the smoke flavor stood out. Great recipe thanks for sharing!

      It’s a verified crime that no one has responded to this. Whether a person subscribes to the notion of, or belief in, a greater good that exists beyond our understanding, I can promise you that whatever beings dwell within that sacred place, they absolutely revere green bean casserole as divine ambrosia next to which no manner of sustenance compares. Truth be told.

      Me too! If you make it for family - sub cream of chicken for the cream of mushroom, then add some diced mushrooms if you want. Cream of mushroom has an unappealing gray color. Parboil your green beans if they're fresh. And you can get better crispy onion topping than the common Frenches brand. I'm not typically a Whole Foods shopper, but they have a great crispy onion alternative.

    Is this not basically just a frittata?
    Our traditional Thanksgiving breakfast/appetizer - crescent rolls stuffed with a mix of cream cheese and spicy/hot breakfast sausage. Our kids love them, we love them, guests love them.

    Rutabaga is the one thing we only have at Thanksgiving and Xmas. It is one of my favorite holidays food! One year Mom didn't make it at Thanksgiving, my sister and I said we wouldn't be coming to Xmas if there was no Rutabaga!😂 We've had it at both ever since! Love You Mom!! ❤

    We’ve been making variations of this for many years, usually for Christmas Eve. Ours is also named spinach pie (quiche) which is our version of a Greek spanakopita. The original version my grandmother used to make was eggs, cream, spinach, onion, feta cheese, dill, salt & pepper poured into a pie crust. We’ve updated it to add artichokes and bacon to the above. Either way it’s the best damn side or meal!

    My husband and I discovered your channel during lockdown and have been loyal viewers every since. After watching, my husband and I decided to scrap the pre-planned green bean casserole and make this instead. And OMG...so glad we did!! Everyone LOVED this...even my very picky mother who said she never really liked green bean casserole. My thought was then why have we been making it for the past twenty years! Thank you "Edith" and Sam for the great recipe. Goodbye green bean casserole and hello spinach cheese pie...our new family favorite Thanksgiving side!! 🥳

    I like the idea of this recipe being for breakfast because of the eggs and bacon and the way it looks. I will try it soon. But I'm going with the green bean casserole because I searched and searched for what I hope will be a good improvement over the non-fresh canned stuff. I AM making Sam's creamed corn because that looks so yummy 😋

    Place the grater on the bench long ways. Hold and grate cheese. Cheese mostly stays in the grater. Pick up and put in bowl. Less strain when grating stuff.

    Bacon 5, onion in grease, add mushrooms, knob of butter & garlic paste until carmelized.
    Bowl cream cheese, 2T butter - cream together, bacon, 10 oz spinach (drained), 4 eggs beaten, mushroom mix, 8 oz mj cheese. S/p, 1/2 tsp red pepper flakes.
    Butter, fried onion topper. Once cooled add parm cheese

    For even more greenery I think some broccoli would be fantastic in there, as would some corn.
    Full disclosure: I try to find ways to disguise broccoli because it's incredibly healthy but tastes bad. This looks like the perfect way to do it.

    Sam, I just made this dish!!! Absolutely delicious! My husband is eating it now and making all kinds of happy sounds.
    It supposed to be for Christmas dinner @ ham.
    I even had the right pan and did your magic release over the bowl.
    This will be a family tradition.

    Best side I ever had was Pasta stuffed inside a turkey under the skin. It became thick and crunchy and....I cant find the recipe anywhere....

    I love green bean casserole! I would love this dish too but it has too much cheese for my lactose intolerantness. When I make the casserole , I add bacon, sautéed onions, sautéed mushrooms , and top it with the fried onions. I think its amazing , and my extra kids love it ! ( I hate the word step kids, so mine are just extra , they call me mom , so I am ! )

    The Tart pan used in the video is Teflon coated. If you use a non-coated pan, even greasing with butter, the frittata could stick when you remove it. Better to use a greased 9" springform pan.

    Since I started following the CZcams food sphere, it seems like every Thanksgiving, there's always a debate about green bean casseroles, and everyone seems to love it or hate it. And every channel always thinks they have cracked the proverbial code. I am with Sam on this, I think it's the green beans themselves. I have never been a big fan personally. But this I would totally eat the hell out of, and probably go back for seconds and thirds!

    This holiday I was in charge of bringing a vegetable dish. I was pissed because I never do vegetable dishes I had to compete against sweet potatoes and stuffing and biscuits and anything else you can think of for Thanksgiving. I decided to do this dish, and guess what was the most popular? You guessed it! I have no problems bringing the vegetable dish anymore. So good!

    In official situations, my mom always spoke of herself as Mrs. John Beer. Around 1970 she was written up in our local paper for her work in putting together a cookbook for the American Heart Association, and was mentioned only by my dad’s name. Several people wrote letters to the editor to protest that, but my mom was not a feminist yet and said she was proud to be my dad’s wife. (Yeah mom, but you still have your own name!) It got her thinking though!

    This reminds me of frittata that I like to make for breakfast now and then. The only differences I use a 12 inch nonstick skillet and finish it off in the oven.👍🏻👍🏻

    My mom used to make a spinach casserole very similar to Edith's recipe.
    It was called krasnapolsky (sounds polish maybe) and it had spinach, eggs, cheddar cheese and large curd cottage cheese instead of cream cheese. She always made it to go along with the ham on Easter. Made me like spinach at a young age

      Every time my momma makes me some she always leaves a little bit of the fries onions in the bag so when I reheat it I can still have fresh crunchy bits cuz when it's reheated the steam softens it. God it's so good. If I ever knew I was going to have a last meal...I would make sure green beans casserole was part of it lol ❤️❤️

    You can use an egg slicer to slice your mushrooms! Works like a charm! I use it for strawberries too.

    Made this for dinner tonight. It went together flawlessly and tasted so damn good. Heck with “side” status, it made a great entree! I wouldn’t change a thing in this recipe. Even the crispy onions fried in butter and topped with parm were perfect. Thanks Edith, er, Sam!

    Watched this video a few days before Thanksgiving and just knew I had to make it for the T-day celebration. Made it exactly like you did. Absolute perfection. It's just as good as reheated leftovers. With that in mine, one suggestion. On the day you make it fresh, make only enough of the crisped up onion rings as you'll need that day. Any of those left over don't do well reheated as leftovers. It would be better to make a new batch when you need them. Keep cooking great stuff, Sam. Love your channel.

      A frittata was how my mom got me and my brothers to eat spinach and broccoli (I don't recall if she put them both in or if it was today it's spinach and tomorrow it's broccoli) when we were growing up.
      And I am going to make it too.
      I feel like I've been watching a lot of their videos, because when he said he's gonna add 3 things, I guessed that one of them would be the red pepper flakes.

    I made this last night. Great Keto dish! We ate it as a main dish and it was delish. I thought it was a bit too spicy with 1 tsp pepper flakes and will reduce that next time. But I will definitely make it again. Thanks, Sam!

    I’m gonna cook that! I have everything on hand but the mushrooms. That could also be a KETO super dish for anyone to enjoy. But I don’t really care what it looks like as much as what it tastes like so a pie plate will be My weapon of choice.
    Update on this, I cooked it up today & it was quite yummy! I didn’t however keep a watchful eye on it & it turned out sort of cajun-ish on top because the cheese may have burned a little. But I caught it in time & it was really good. Although it wasn’t as picturesque as the video one turned out.

    Pray for me this Thanksgiving, these past three years have been difficult on me. Jesus give me guidance come back soon. I don’t know how much longer I can hold on. I’m so tired of struggling every month to get by. As a single mom things are hard on me both of my sons are autistic and I’m constantly struggling to provide the basic necessities for them I’m so ashamed. Lord heal me. I suffered an heart attack two years ago and still battling lupus I’m so overwhelmed. Give me strength Lord as I constantly struggle to pay bills and constantly struggle to buy groceries for my children. BUT no matter what I KEEP FAITH. Even though I want to give up. Jesus please take the fear of homelessness from my heart. Please save me and my children from poverty.

    I just made this, minus the bacon and pepper flakes and it’s turned out great. It’s def going to be a staple. Not sure whether to call it a frittata or a quiche

    Max needs to understand that “downhill from here” is a GOOD thing! It’s referring to if you’re riding a bike or walking or whatever… and get to a downhill section - hurray! Downhill is easy peasy! 😂

    I like many here am in love with the green bean casserole, but this, which is basically a quiche, is very interesting and will be served for our annual 4th of July get together

    The comment Chance made that looks like a frittata pretty accurate, considering, it pretty much is a frittata. Just a lot more cheese than normal. Honestly, I'd eat it, sans the mushrooms and onions.

    Made this for Christmas Eve party 2023. It was a hit. I chopped fresh spinach. It wasted time. Next time for speed and simplicity, I'm using frozen chopped spinach like in the video. Probably, any cheese would be OK, but I stayed with the recipe and used Monterey. Also, I used 5 eggs. I wanted to make sure the finished product was firm and easy to cut into well-defined wedges. In any case, it's an easy recipe. I highly recommend trying it.

    This looks amazing!! Someone mentioned that it looks like a hearty breakfast...what a great idea! I'm not replacing my family's beloved green bean casserole, but I damn sure will be making this very soon!!
    Side note; Max! That tiny camera you use when shooting on Sam's right looks REALLY awesome! Well, I mean...the shots look really awesome. But the camera is cute too. 😅 Anyway, would love to see more shots with that one, very visually pleasing! 😊

    I hate green bean casserole. I was not brought up with that. I married into a family that makes it. I tried it at my first T’day with my new family and I couldn’t eat more than 2 bites. I created my own T’day meal and I’ve never had it again. This looks really good.

    I heard it was actually John’s recipe but because it wasn’t socially acceptable for men to cook, he had to put it under the female pseudonym. It was his actual name because he wanted the boys down at the crocheting club to know it was actually his recipe.
