How Canada's Economy Became The Most Pathetic In The World: The Collapse Of A Nation

  • This is a graph showing a massive sign of the dire state of canada’s pathetic economy. And its actually not to do with any hot button issues like canada’s insane housing prices, the affordability crisis, or Toronto maple leafs fans hopes and dreams crushed once again.
You see, this is the net amount of investment between canada and the usa every year in the amount of billions of dollars. From 2001 up until 2014, Canada took in tens of billions of more foreign investment from the united states than vice versa. Meaning that businesses large and small, from walmart, to your local carpenter, were much more likely to move to canada and grow the economy, than it is was for a business to leave canada for the united states.
However, this changed in 2015, and it coincidentally or not, lined up with the current liberal government getting into power. And quickly, over the course of the next decade, Canadian businesses, investors, entrepreneurs, and professionals started taking their money out of canada, and moving it to the united states. And buckle up, because this number is so shocking, that it inspired me to make this video on it.
By 2022, $1 trillion dollars in book value had left canada for the united states and a net value of about $460 billion dollars. That is $11,500 per person in canada, in net investment leaving the canada for the united states.
And that number for 2023 is estimated to potentially reach half a trillion dollars in net outflow of investments from canada to the united states. Or about $12,500 per person.
Keep in mind, that represents potentially tens of thousands or hundreds of thousands of jobs for canadians, potentially much higher wages, maybe higher innovation, research, building of machines, contracts, opportunities for businesses and so on.
Half a trillion dollars. That might actually be enough money to help bribe satan to lift the curse off of the leafs. A number that i thought was impossible.
But the question is, why is this? Why is so much investment leaving canada for the usa, and why aren’t american businesses investing as much in canada? Well, once again, this is a sign of a dying economy.
Lets start off with one reason why no one wants to invest in canada. There is something called the OECD's FDI regulatory restrictiveness index. And what it tries to do is summarize how easy it is for a foreign entity to invest in a country.
The easiest country to invest in is germany, japan is somewhat in the middle of the pack. The united states is actually double most of the other nations on this list. And then there’s canada…essentially tripling the difficulty to invest in the country. And this is because of a litany of laws, regulations, taxes, and more. And the irony is, its is extremely difficult to invest in canada at the moment, yet, it is extremely easy to move to canada, as canada currently has the highest immigration rate in the history of the western world, which is also a sign of a dying economy, but we’ll get to that in a bit.
You see, canada is apart of this globalized economy, and whether you like it or not, a globalized economy allows for big businesses to see the entire world as their playing field, not just their home country.
So when canada has the highest total corporate tax rate in the world, and plans to keep raising it, the corporate overlords of canada have no allegiance to stay and lose out on their billions of dollars in profits, when they can legally park it in another country and save that money.
    thoughtleaders...
And even the ones that keep their money in canada, tend to not do anything with it. You see the big banks in canada and the largest corporations have the equivalent of one third of the countries entire GDP sitting in Bank accounts, doing nothing. Not investing in the country, or creating jobs. Just sitting.

As a middle class father, it's gotten so much worse over the last 5 years.
I feel like we're somehow living under Austerity measures while having record budget deficits, which I don't understand how that's possible.
Costs of everything have skyrocketed, wages are flat. Health care may be free but it's almost impossible to get an ER wait under 10 hours or for people to find family doctors. People are regularly turned away from walk in clinics. Anything not immediately life threatening requires months/years consultation wait times that drive most people to go private anyways.
You're taxed more and more and more but middle class people don't get the benefits, all the tax dollars go to virtue signaling social programs that have little meaningful efficacy.
If you've worked hard your entire life and and developed valuable skills you're just taxed more and told to suck it up because there are people less fortunate than you, while you go into debt just trying to pay the mortgage and raise your kids.
Our immigration numbers were 1.2M last year, on pace for 1.5M this year (Up from 150K in 2015), yet we build around 200,000 homes a year. Companies regularly post college degree jobs for barely above minimum wage so they can just go "See look, there are no Canadians in this field! Let's bring in Temporary foreign workers who will work for cheap.".
Most of my friends with high skill jobs/careers are all looking at going to the states because their pay would be higher and costs would be drastically lower.

My view is that us province’s and territories need more sovereignty over our local economy’s, Alberta knows what it needs, Ontario doesn’t, and vise versa. We also need a way to reform our electoral system, I’m pretty sure he lost the popular vote twice, and the only reason he’s staying in power is that he has the east, Ontario and Quebec, granted he’s potentially lost them this year, the only thing currently stopping a early election is his butt buddy Jagmeet from the NDP who think taxing grocery store will bring down prices. Thanks for the Canadian content Jack.

Inflation can have a significant impact on individuals and their cost of living. As a result, it can cause negative market sentiment. It is important for individuals and businesses to find ways to navigate and potentially mitigate the effects of inflation on their finances. Capitalism is a bad business model in every single way economically, socially and ecologically. It is only through massive propaganda campaigns that most people on Earth don't realize how dysfunctional and structurally violent capitalism is and the ruling elite for profit so grossly from the exploitation of people and planetary resources. More and more are waking up, but some are turning conservative and missing the root problem. That's a concern.
There is a process to get out of this mess but it takes some real, honest reflection and a little bit of research. First, accepting that capitalism is unsustainable and politics is forever corrupted by big money so even if we elect a progressive party they will only be as successful as the working class is united in their demands for system change and their willingness to build it.
Sounds cliche, but we have to build the change we want to see in the world. We can't just wait for years, vote one day, and then expect everything to fix itself. It won't. While the challenge is big, it gets better with more unity along class lines.
The biggest problem right now is how divided the working class is. If we would unite and realize our common enemy and build solidarity to overthrow the capitalist beast and replace it with a locally, democratic decentralized worker co-operative network that works to meet everybody's needs at a high standard of living within planetary boundaries - like being done right now in the many One Small Town communities starting up - then we could overcome these challenges better.
Check out One Small Town and/or Michael Tellinger's channel for more. It will always be free and voluntary, so you have nothing to lose except your chains.

As a lifelong Canadian, this is going to be a long comment. I can only describe the current state of affairs of our country as “hostile.”
The culture wars and rapid collapse of social cohesion, the discouragement of business and investment, the disastrous productivity and housing market. We are living in an oligopoly of a small handful of Canadian businesses running the whole economy with no real competition in banking, grocery, etc.
This country pretends to be socialist and caring but everything is setup to weaken the working class population. We don’t have a middle class anymore at all. Making over $250,000 a year might make you middle class now, but the problem is how few households that encompasses. This past 9 years has been the worst time I’ve ever lived through in Canada.
The government debt grows, yet access to services is worse. This is why people are rapidly losing faith in liberal policies. Paying higher taxes and not even getting the basic services is absurd. I haven’t had a family doctor in 8 years. You know how Europe is shifting right and “populous”? This is happening in Canada, too as people begin to question the rise of immigration during this cost of living crisis.
Interest rates increasing and housing prices going parabolic has lead to a scenario where only 8 years ago, your monthly mortgage of around $1100 would now be around $3000. This was reported by the CBC, the largest national news outlet. With the comments section disabled, of course.

This is one of the best summaries of the bizarre country called Canada that I've seen to date. We moved here for quality of life reasons in 1999 and raised our children here. When our youngest graduates from high school next year we'll be returning to the U.S. One child has already left Canada, and after the other 2 graduate from university, well...they also have options should Canada continue on this path. Our leaving the country is in line with the OECD projections the video references about Canada being the worst performing economy over the next 30 years. And to be candid, I'm not a fan of mass immigration. It's completely changed Halifax. What's fascinating is spending time in the closest major American city - Portland, Maine. Such a difference. Better urban design, better coffee shops. Better symphony hall. Far more historic architecture (Halifax started knocking it's city down around in 2013 and calling it progress). Their growth rate last year was the highest in New England at 0.4%. Contrast that to Nova Scotia's growth rate of 3.24% which is akin to a developing nation. Traffic is a mess. Health care negatively impacted. Rental prices skyrocketing. Teens can no longer find jobs because the provincial government provides tax breaks to hire "new arrivals" (i.e. Indians). There is no sense of community in this country. People don't angry. Everyone is so hung up on being polite because having strong opinions and giving a sh*t about your country would be too American. And everyone knows that Canadians are NOT American. Canada should have joined the USA rather than engage in mass immigration. They would have been far better off economically, and yes socially - as demonstrated in many Democratic leaning states such as Massachusetts, Minnesota, Rhode Island, and elsewhere.

Then Argentina went down the tubes and it is still down, more than 70 years later.
It's now Canada's turn to do the same...
They'll meet each other down there...
Uncontrolled immigration is the primary cause of the housing crisis.
Even Canadians (a brother-in-law) could not see/grasp (initially) that the immense number of people coming in, need HOUSING, infrastructure, and everything else. Hence the insane housing prices.
Canada does not have the well developed construction industry to build millions of houses, apartments, and of course, schools, hospitals, roads, water, sewer, and all the other things these new millions need. It seems, Canadians thought (stupidly) that those multitudes will live under the bridge or in the woods...

Its not talked about much, but one of the core reasons why I beleive that Canada, in its current incarnation, is functionally irrecoverable, is down to the fact that what had been Canadian identity was fundamentally subverted and dismantled in the span of time around the 60s-90s. Initially finding more ground in the political mainstream under people like Pearson and Trudeau Sr, the idea that "anyone can be Canadian", rather rapidly, slipped into mainstream culture. This, in essence, uprooted the Anglo (and French, to a lesser degree) culture and ethnicity that was the backbone and identity of the nation, and replaced with the rapidly spreading global liberalism that say everyone and everything as fungible and interchangeable.
Practically speaking this is why there hasnt really been any meaningful opposition to the changes in Canada, and why Canadian politics doesnt really have any meaningful conservativism. With no principles of their own to organize around, conservatives in Canada - as expertly demonstrated time and time again by the Conservative party - devolve into perpetually assuming a more moderate progressive stance - Liberals driving the speed limit, if youd like.
If you don't believe me, take some time and listen to MPs speak in the house. Youll notice that the Conservative MPs tend to use the same language in the same way as the Liberal and NDP MPs. What the Conservative MPs are doing, whether they realize it or not, is play a game in which their opponents dictate the rules. Not exactly a winning strategy.

The single biggest problem in Canada imo is excessive bureaucracy and fees before anything can be accomplished. $125,000 to get _approval_ to build a single one-bedroom condo is outrageous. These excessive fees and months and months of waiting affect ordinary people too, in other ways. How about those $2000 of COVID relief money that the government clawed back after people had spent it? How about the people who did the paperwork to _prove_ they qualified for the money month after month, only to have $4000 or more clawed back when the government changed its mind retroactively?
The problem isn't the regulations, necessarily, the problem is the _implementation_ of regulations and the layers upon layers upon layers of useless bureaucracy gumming everything up.
And taxes are insane because the Federal debt is insane so they have to be. We have former prime minister Stephen Harper to thank for that. Trudeau sure is going out of his way to make everything worse, though.

I have heard from so many people that there just are not any jobs around that are worth having. This is not new, it's been the situation for a long time here. We're not stupid, we know damn well that if it takes two or three jobs to make enough money to live a half decent life and raise a family, then something is very seriously wrong. We want to have a real chance of actually getting somewhere in life better than being just a working slave. So as a result, a lot of people would rather go on welfare or retire early than struggle in a dead end low paying job. The immigrants don't know this, and they're being lied to.
