    For me, the ideas in czcams.com/users/postUgkxAfqpMLyFn37qcqUl0FAzqkkycQeXqrhP Plans were a starting point for building different sheds . Ryan gives ideas that allow an individual to draw nicest conclusions into the design and building of his or her own shed.

    Interesting to use the camera inside the house. On a cold night with the heating on go outside the house to see the fuller story. Heat leaking from around window frames. Wood front door acting like external rads. Insulate and draft proof as much as u can.

    Like your video! And I think Infiray T2S+ thermal camera is also a great device to find all the heat loss points in the house. The imaging is quite good for such an affordable price.👍

    I recently ordered one of these so I can check for leaks in a flat roof, the UNI-T range are way cheaper than FLIR but still good

    What are your thoughts on the lack of eaves overhang on building thermal efficiency ?
    Specifically, mitigating rain penetration to masonry - and the attendant increase in heat loss. The gable on the building featured has no roof overhang , leaving the wall exposed and reducing the overall building thermal efficiency.
    We also seem to be stuck with brick as a facing material when a rendered and painted finish would seem more suitable for our climate - as is prevalent in Scotland and continental Europe.
    High performance paints would moderate heat gain in summer and heat loss in winter - block construction would be easier and would reduce the energy cost in firing bricks .
    These simple steps together with a simple central ventilation system incorporated in the build, would go a long way in making our housing stock more efficient.
    What are your thoughts on these possibilities ?

      I am a great believer in big eaves overhangs.
      The windows need cleaning more often but the facades are dry and that means they are better insulators.

    You’d be able to make a great video in my house. Very cold, heating hardly seems to make much difference.

    Thanks Roger. That gives me an idea. I look after the heating system in a church building and there's a leak from the downstairs circuit which is buried under the floor, but there are no signs of where it can be, so have you ever managed to locate a leak in a heating system using a thermal imaging camera?

    • @SkillBuilder
      @SkillBuilder  Před rokem +5

      Hi Kendal
      Yes it is a very common way of finding leaks under floors. It is worth a try.

      There are professional leak detecting services who pressurise the system with a gas and can locate leaks accurately with a audio based detector. There are YT videos on the subject. Here one example czcams.com/video/oEPt8C8yoR0/video.html

    lots of council houses has these issues especially where the ceilings slope down ! normally causing mould or condensation ! due to lack of insulation in those areas !

    I dont need any flash cameras to see my heat leaks on the roof, just go outside on a frosty morning and spot where the frost has melted 🤣 would love to put more insulation in but its really a roof off job or rip all the ceillings down on the inside as its a bungalow that had a roof job done back when insulation wasnt heard of 🙄

      Where is the mould ? do you have trickle vents on the windows ? Are you creating a lot of humidity in your house ? is the condensation problem mainly when it’s cold ?

    • @stuartclaw
      @stuartclaw Před rokem

      @@chadzoe1 In two of our bedrooms. They installed trickle vents recently in the windows. Also new radiators. We loose a lot of heat still.

    If those walls are dot and dab, I'll bet there is no continuous bead around the plasterboard, and cold air is able to circulate behind, and completely nullify any insulation! Same as my 20 year old house...

    • @bruceyv83
      @bruceyv83 Před rokem +1

      I was going to say the same thing. We have thermalite block with dot and dab. I've just spent the winter trying to track down the gaps in the mortar of the block work creating the draughts behind my dot and dab, it's a joke. #livinginaplasterboardtent

    I like how this guy's like "they lied to me" we have to heat this room. They must not have insulated it. What was he expecting, was he expecting the insulation to generate heat? If it's cold outside insulation slows that heat transfer it doesn't stop it. You're welcome to keep adding more internal insulation if you're really that impacted by it.

    • @GotMoreCakes
      @GotMoreCakes Před rokem +2

      Bit unnecessary, he was expecting it to be warm as it was the top end of the envelope and be insulated correctly.

    • @Andrewt09876
      @Andrewt09876 Před rokem +6

      Think he was expecting the builder to do their job and properly insulate. Nothing wrong with that.
