Imagine Gretzky if there were not heavy hitters, bench brawls, enforcers, essentially violence. I think Gretzky in 2024 as a rookie would probably score like 200 points in just his rookie season. He was built for todays NHL like Bedard is.
Absolutely, Gretzky had to put up with a lot more contact than in the modern NHL
Huge Gretzky fan here. He was protected by the league, team mates and other players for a good reason. He was a clean player and well respected. He was the face of the league, gave interest to the game and as a result sent all players salaries upward. Going out and destroying him made no sense to anyone.....
