    As a deer stalker from the UK. I am ashamed to admit that I was a little bit syndical about watching another a US "hunting" TV series. That's until I watched Steve and his series "Meat Eater" on Netflix. Steve Rinella has to be the most informed, intelligent and by far the most eloquent of hunters that I have ever had the pleasure to watch on TV. I learn something new from every episode! I have the upmost respect for his hunting ethics and I envy his field craft. Steve Rinella is everything I aspire to be as a hunter and a human being..... Steve has helped me understand my place on this earth. Thank you 👍

      Dude I know what you mean, the old outdoors shows especially the fishing shows like Bill Dance were so fake and heavily sponsored. They would stick bass in their live well, take one out, hook it in the mouth the same way every time and it was always with the sponsored lure of the day. My Gpa was a state renowned Striper guide, I’ve been bass fishing since i could cast a zebco 33. You almost never hook Largemouth like that. I’ve had them one swallow 4 and 5 offsets, the back treble hook of a crank bait, and get hooked on just about every spot in the mouth. Large mouth suck in and swallow their prey. The chances of hooking a 5+ pound bass in the lower left corner of its mouth every time, especially with Texas/Carolina rigged soft lures.

Both are very fascinating; and truly the best at what they do. But they aren't on the same level, two very different philosophies on hunting and the outdoors.

Yea yea I know I'm a "troll" but seriously NEVER trust a man who says he hunts but doesn't like turkey hunting. Being in the woods during a spring turkey season is so incredibly magical for a true outdoorsman that it's undeniable.

    • @ohsweatbret
      @ohsweatbret Před 4 lety

      Ner I think an muzzleloader with some mild optics would be the best middle ground. A high powered rifle would require so much training and practice for him, especially with the range you hunt elk at out west that are up to 300 yds. I imagine his buddy is with a bow like I am with a rifle. Conversely, I just picked up my first compound and probably shoot worse than their 5 year olds with a longbow or recurve. But, give me a rifle in anything between .22LR and 30-06 after not holding one for 3 years and I’ll still hit the small spinner or I’ll have groups of .223 and 308 holes touching at 100 yards nearly every time, even with an opposite handed rifle not sighted in for me. Like they are with bows and blow guns, I started at such a young age and had to adapt to using right handed firearms so often that shooting them are second nature to me.

Even if they aren't necessarily right about everything, when something they mention piques my interest, I go look it up and delve into researching it a ton and no other guest makes me look into more topics than Steven Rinella. Joey Diaz is very easily my favorite guest bar none, but Rinella is a close second (obviously for two completely different reasons) and this is definitely one of my favorite episodes. To prepare cassava, it is peeled and grated and soaked in warm water for several days. This allows the cassava's own natural enzyme (linamarase) to convert the cyanogen linamarin to sugar and cyanide gas, and the volatile gas disperses usually harmlessly. However, women -- who are usually charged with processing the plant -- can be sickened by inhaling cyanide gas. What remains after processing can be boiled and eaten, or more usually, dried and ground. -ProMed
