- this trip is just a disaster, my new Road King special is being shipped to Alice Springs in the hope that it can be fixed. If not the Harley Davidson adventure is over in less than 48 hours !!
I bought a pack of 24 occy straps but didn’t pack them all ! I didn’t want to over pack !

David is an absolute legend and has the patience of a saint, I can't imagine that he had a drink problem with his chilled out attitude, but Daniel is a different animal, very unpredictable with a very short fuse, I'm seeing a very controlling nature in Daniel and can understand where his problems are.
This trip isn't about Ayers rock or anything, but more about 2 very opposite personalities that often clash, but never explode.
I agree, I like watching the trainwreck, but if I rode with him any length of time we'd be throwing fist pretty soon with his antics.

I will answer on behalf of Harley Davidson - there is no reverse gear for getting your friends bike out of the sand when you recklessly drive it into said sand and get it bogged after you destroy your own bike the same way a day earlier. Harley Davidson motorcycles are not designed for off road trips. If you are a dummy then you get to pay the dummy tax.
David has to be the cool of the coolest that he hasn't slapped you into next week sometime.

Get a welder to make a plug hole ring with 3-6 threads deep about 3/4 " dia. You're making a custom drain plug. Leave the hole as is. Grind only to fit part. ONLY weld shut minimally. Too much heat for case. You don't even have to make a round hole. Three or four threads and a flush hex to tighten. Use removeable Permatex to lock the threads. Only a suggestion, since I can't see details of damage. The part basically is a 3/4 in. FPT Black Malleable Iron FPT Floor Flange or equal made from aluminum billet. Good Luck fella's.

In enduro we carry quick steel and oil and enough tools to disassemble the whole bike, all in a lightweight compact pack attached to the frame. even without panniers we must be prepared to survive in the desert, mechanical knowledge is a must. We would never carry cans only dried food and lots of water, never wasting resources, never going emotional, always focused. Always making sure the bike has a skid plate before playing on the rocks. I bet now you know all this. With your intense style of living, you should prepare for a big time battle, rally-style. Congrats, you are one big badass biker. Cheers for beers from México.

I've ridden since the age of 17 with nothing but the clothes on my back and extra undies/socks in my bedroll tied to the handlebar. No saddlebags, no windshield, no helmet, no leathers. I made it, I survived it all and broke the fun barrier doing it. Since this year, and at the age of 71, I have all that "stuff" now LOL...

And I’m not here to judge, just to be entertained, but just have to say you should have asked your viewers for help on the sump hole. Could have saved you thousands by recommending to get a new one shipped overnight to copper peddy and any mechanic could have installed it for you, even possibly yourself. Simple job. Or it could have been patched up there as well, no need to ship it to Alice Springs on the advice of some Indian truck driver.

Except my buddy was going about 40mph and turning onto a main road where I flipped cause the rope went clack. My mistake !! 40 years later I still got the scars on my leg. AHHH the good old days!! From Shovelhead days on back Harley DID offer a reverse gear option right in the transmission. I had 2 with reverse. Mostly for sidecar use but reverse also came in handy in summer riding on 2 wheels ---- just like Daniel noted. See guys, Daniel is using a Harley-Davidson like Bill Harley intended them to be used.
