  • Planned as a southern section thru-hike, things changed after too many rocks, too many ticks, too much road walking, and too little water. Add in a major 9 added mile relocation due to land ownership closure and the mental enjoyment of this trek diminished. The Tuscarora (north or south) is as tough as it gets. Physically...I still had the stamina...but mentally was wearing down...staring far too long at the rocks and spending evenings pulling ticks from everywhere on my body. I lost the enjoyment and aborted right before Woodstock VA. That's not to say that the TT is not worth hiking. The shelters are stellar for the most part. You will be alone (as I solo hiked) most of the time..so solitude is rampant. This video encompasses my first 3 full days plus the morning of my 4th. There is almost 23 total miles of road walking during these first 55 or so miles...not my idea of hiking in the hot sun. Yet...I was out hiking...and that's a good thing. I'm posting Part Two also....that's where the trail gets harder. I think the TT is about endurance, both mentally and physically...if that's what you are after...this is it! If you are out for pleasure....there's more pleasurable paths to take. This video is for you to decide! Happy hiking and God speed! Phil 4:13
