      Tony used to do standup apparently. He’s phenomenal at conveying Callum’s raw emotional strength and pain, but comedy is kind of ingrained in his manners and I love him for it. When Callum first appeared he was this awkward, wide-eyed goofball who did slapstick and physical comedy with exquisite timing, bouncing of Linda and Mick with one liners and deer-in-headlights-looks. He’s a treasure and a damn good actor.

    If the 2 of them can get through this, then after, their marriage will be stronger more than ever, and Ben might finally change for the better, their relationship will be healthier and a lot less toxic, their communication must improve a whole lot in the mean time, I’m glad to see that Ben said we need to and we can get through this together, that’s the little hope still remain inside his heart now, unfortunately right now Callum is still in the emotional pain of just finding out about the cheating part, he didn’t know the assault part yet, let’s wait till Callum knows the truth, then let’s see how he will react, would he come to Ben and help him through this together? @@theresabruebaker1030 the 2 of them are far from over, guaranteed! There’s still pretty much deep love and strong feelings between them, and you don’t just get over this kind of feelings easily and quickly, it’s not like for people who dated couple times or just a fling, a little crush, even if Callum right now he doesn’t know the truth, he’s in pain and he might want a distraction, he would not get over Ben and fall for another person, it’s impossible, it would take a long time that’s if the truth doesn’t come out hypothetically, it would still take months or even years for him to get over Ben; not to mention that the truth will definitely come out, and Callum will be there for Ben no matter what, we already saw his anger towards Lewis today; imagine when he found out the truth about Ben’s assault, he would go out for blood this time, even though he knows he’s a cop and he shouldn’t do that, but the deep feelings he has for Ben probably will win over the logical reasoning, because who can blame him, emotions would definitely take over, but more importantly, he will be a safe harbor that Ben can rest and rely on, making Ben feel safe because right now Ben doesn’t feel safe and doesn’t feel like he has anyone let’s be honest; to get through trauma like sexual assault, an important step is to feel safe and be able to trust people again, and that would not be possible without around the people that Ben loves and can rely on… so I do hope the writers would send out a positive message out of this whole thing, that couples do come out this successfully and piece back together, instead of just bringing more darkness and suffering; I mean soap does want to educate people but it’s also important to bring out some light out of the negative stuff and it gives people hope especially for those who are currently in crisis, it gives them courage and hope, and that’s really crucial, so I hope the writers realize that and can go towards the positive way, instead of destroy ballum even more by bringing whatever more drama after this now that Callum wants a divorce, please no more drama after this, let’s focus on how to get Ben to open up, and let the family all support him and help him!💗💗💖💖😊🤗🤗🤗😇😇😇😇😇😇

    Painful to watch. Callum finally not being a doormat. So yay for that! However, this is a soap opera and Brit soap operas have a regular habit of always showing tragic gay characters. EE has been pretty good with the detail of this storyline, but I must admit, had this been solely an instance of cheating, many gay male couples work through infidelity (usually in the first few years of their relationships) and if they "get through this" as Ben said, then they last a long time together. Since the '70s and '80s gay men have learned that trying to purely adopt heteronormative ways of coupling more often than not doesn't work in practice. Add in the rape and you have to wonder, yes, Callum will likely be very upset and may even get violent towards Lewis, but will he also be able to get over Ben's original intent (i.e. the app and all). The characters are in their late 20s early 30s, so I'm not sure if gay men in these age groups are self-aware enough to understand that monogamy is nice in theory, but it isn't always true in practice. EE would be foolish to not bring Callum and Ben back together. Surely this show can finally have Ben grow up and write creative storylines for Ben and Callum without it always having to be dark and tragic. I'm not asking EE to rise to the excellence of Schitt's Creek, but this storyline so far has shown they have the sophistication to be even better, and they have excellent actors in Tony Clay and Max Bowden to bring it to life.

      Why is being monogamous unpractical in the lqbtq community? I don’t understand it.. why is it so hard to only be involved with one person? Like, you can always find people attractive but why does it mean you have to sleep with them? Like why? I’ve never understood that.. maybe it’s something deeper issue that’s rooted but tbh it’s not cute at all. It’s actually disturbing..

      @@MJC8638 i understand what you mean, but the topic of whether to be monogamous or not should've been discussed much earlier in Ben and Callum's relationship, when they were first starting to get really serious about each other. Clearly, for people like Ben's character, monogamy is a struggle, even though they may deeply love their partner. This situation and others in Ben's past clearly show that monogamy isn't right for everyone, and that's just as valid as people who prefer a monogamous relationship.

    • @JordanjamesX
      @JordanjamesX Před 2 lety +2

      @@MJC8638 Gay men are still men. Ben and Callum are young gay men in their 20s and early 30s. Very unrealistic for two young gay men to be totally monogamous. In the straight world women have the say whether a man gets sex or not. In the gay male community since it is males getting sex is easier. This is the reason In the western world bathhouses are very popular. Gay men understand the difference between love and sex. The monogamy ideal is a heteronormative one. I doubt show will go there but if Ben and Callum to work needs to be agreement about an open marriage. Ben did cheat he is young gay male to expect monogamy in a 20 something gay man even in marriage is unrealistic.

WHICH im not saying this is doing that at all, but I am addressing the point you made about soap writers not caring about storylines from other soaps (trust me they do, they more or less have to).
      Clearly you think im just saying this is a bad storyline and I don’t want to see it. Which was NOT what I said let me make my meaning clearer; Rape storylines are not a new thing in television let alone soaps whether its male on female, female on male, male on male, female on female. If anything I would say when it comes to this type of storyline I am all for bringing more attention towards the latter 3 of those.
      However in Eastenders in particular there is a particular formula they seem to go with and with such a sensitive topic I don’t thing they should be recycling the same formula over and over and this is the formula they go with;
      The audience either sees the character raped or the character reveals to the audience they have been raped, character stays silent for a long time before telling anyone, the character they do eventually tell is usually sworn to secrecy and will spend significant time telling the character to tell the police and/or loved ones about what has been done to them. Loved ones find out and the whole story breaks out with either full support, desire for revenge or family struggles to cope with the trauma but come out the other end.
      This was done with Stacey Slater, Ronnie Mitchell, Linda Carter etc.
      My POINT is I don’t think there should only be this formula for this storyline every time.

    Paul is dead and I am not saying Ben should "get over" Paul death but he clearly needs counseling for that. As for Callum he is a good decent guy who Ben treats like shit. Callum needs a new love interest they need to be broken up for good or at least a while. Callum can't just be a plot device for Ben. Callum needs some happiness and joy. The hypocrisy of Ben is how jealous he is of Callum. Why can't the Eastenders writers give Callum a proper decent gay man? This is different the anger Callum has had enough of Ben bullshit.
