I guess executive in 343 is the main problem, for example Kikiwolfkill, she played the absolute major role in Halo4, Halo5, Halo TV show, and she's still there after all these craps happened, receiving almost no criticize, and even getting highlights from these. It's ridiculous. Just my personal opinion it might be wrong.

@@alexgilmore2317 Not a chance. Unless the new battle Royale mode coming next year is groundbreakingly amazing (and I wouldn't count on it, just look at Battlefield's attempt at BR for reference), Halo Infinite will fall below ~10k active players and support for the game will be almost completely dropped.
Given this, I expect 343 to start on a completely new game next year, keeping it under wraps because they know it'll rightfully piss off fans. We'll get maybe 3-4 new maps per year until they announce production on the new title (which I expect they'll announce in 2024). Then we'll _maybe_ get one or two maps for the next year or two until Halo 7 launches in an embarrassingly incomplete and fundamentally broken state in ~2026.
And then the cycle will repeat again.

As a long time Halo fan it does hurt to see the franchise go down the pan. We just have to accept that Halo isn't made for us anymore. All we have now is the old games and their campaigns on original hardware. They can't take that from us. Shame there's no online anymore though.

I've never seen a developer so insecure about their IP.
It's like that SpongeBob episode where he tries to rebrand himself and fails. Only to make a patty and everyone is like "That's what we've been waiting for!"
People can criticize and argue about Bungie's gameplay changes, but with Bungie it felt like they put some thought into it and wanted to keep improving while being as true to Halo as could be. Plus Reach had a bunch of experimental army tech so it makes sense for armor abilities to about.
Bungie was also clearly passionate about their product and wanted to make the games bigger and better on a technical level.
Halo 2 laid the foundation for Xbox Live, Halo 3 created theatre mode (a hugely innovative way to share gameplay in a space efficient way) and introduced a ton of community features.
ODST added Firefight and a semi-open environment.
    And then there was Reach.
Think about it: In 2010 the franchise was at its peak and they were making their last game. They could have phoned it in. Yet they proceeded to push the boundaries and do things that nobody ever expected the Xbox 360 to be capable of. Reach had...
    1. A massively improved graphics engine
    2. Massively expanded player customization that applied to the full game
    3. Improved firefight with full customization including CUSTOM SKULLS
    4. An expanded theatre
    5. Even more expanded community features
    6. The best damn UI in the series
    7. Every gametype except VIP from 3. New gametypes! Like a reworked Juggernaut, INVASION, Stockpile, Headhunter, RACE FROM HALO 1
    8. A massively improved Forge. Tons of new objects, better controls, normal/fixed/phased, FORGE WORLD, using other objects as objectives, spawn zones, kill zones, etc.
    9. A brand new progression system
    10. A brand new challenge system as a SUPPLEMENTARY ADDITION TO THE BASE SYSTEM
    11. The Arena ranking system
    12. MEGALO SCRIPT. For those who don't know, they wrote a brand new scripting engine for custom games.
Every game variant has a full script of the Gametype instead of it being built into the game. Halo 4 kept using it as well.
This let them tweak gametype behavior to fix exploits and create entirely new gametypes without ever having to patch the game. HaloBall, Halo Chess, Power Slayer, Bro Slayer, Speed flag, Speedpile, Flag Slayer, and more were created post launch using this without ever having to patch the game! The community ran wild and created some amazing customs, arguably the best in the series.
They also used it to tweak gametypes after feedback, for example they updated Invasion and Assault to make it so you couldn't armor lock next to a bomb to arm it while invincible.
The community eventually reverse engineered it and has made entirely new game modes out of it like Gun Game, Sharpshooter, Prop Hunt, Mini Slayer, Search and Destroy, etc. They also used it to create almost all the gametypes missing from Halo 4 (I personally did Classic CTF)
I went on for a while, but the point is that Bungie set crazy high expectations for themselves and met them because they truly loved Halo.

Halo succeeded and inspired entire generations for the same reasons Star Wars did the same, they were both fantastic examples of classical storytelling in an age where everyone was trying to be as experimental as possible, and failing in their storytelling. In an age where classical elements of storytelling is looked down upon, I believe this is the reason why Halo is still so nostalgic to people and why it is still actively played today.

One thing I'd like to point out is 343s lack of INTERACTABILITY. Some of the best halo multiplayer maps, especially in Halo 3, have some type of interactable button or switch which opens or connects two parts of a map. Though most of these where gates or bridges, they gave character to the map. Even popable flood blisters on a map is a nice characteristic. Hell the ability to break glass is amazing. Ontop of that, movable crates, pallets, barrels is a good characteristic. I feel Halo maps now are too focused on balance without actually making a map. There making a focused arena then a interesting map that has memorable character.

Completely agree, they need more sandbox interaction, like you say, buttons for doors, moving objects, like the big wheel on last resort, and for me, something that has been missing since 3
A map like sand trap, with elephants/ mobile bases, they added such a cool dynamic to the game and could completely change how slayer/bomb/ ctf was played

Having watched 343 fail at almost every single thing since Bungie passed on the franchise to them including the MCC PC launch, Halo Infinite was the last straw for me. I gave it a chance, put in like 100 hours, and after realizing the launch was another disaster I just gave up on Halo completely. The franchise is no longer the same thing that we remember it as from Halo 1-3. It's now just a brand that will continue to be milked until it's no longer financially viable just like the rest of the successful IPs that came out between 2000-2012 like Gears, Battlefield, CoD, etc. The people that created these games in the first place are now long gone and working on other projects so we will never really have a chance to go back to the golden period of any of these IPs. There's no point in endlessly hoping Halo will go back to the way it was as clearly that's not 343's intention and likely will never be.

Unfortunately that's how corporations work these days they care more about pandering to each other with esg scores and trying to either sell or buy eachother than releasing a product. I think they are hoping while they constantly shift around through acquisitions they can keep share holders happy while they condition a new audience to be drip fed garbage and normalize subscriptions and other shitty monetization practices. However I think the well is already drying up. Halo Infinite talks a big game about early success same with halo 5 but they are shifting goal posts to appease shareholders. They are likely getting diminishing returns.
It won't be long before people see studio acquisitions as studios going to the field to die. Some already are but people still get excited when Sony/MS do it.
With the ease of access to AAA quality game engines and decent quality indie projects mainstream gaming is losing serious relevancy. I see a lot of Indie games with great graphics made by small teams. In fact I'm attempting one myself. However I think the next move by the big publishers is to see what sells in the indie scene and then move to buy them hoping to bring their audience in. Buy the studio make bad changes and run it into the ground make a decent profit. Buy next studio.
This isn't just gaming you see it in everything run by corporations. Pander to esg, shit on your customers, buy or sell.

But one time they unanimously agreed a certain map was already good to go, only for 343 to push for anything that needed to change and eventually add arbitrary changes anyway.
See, they don't even really care about esports beyond the money it could bring in - this is far from the only instance they basically ignored the pros' input just to push whatever changes they already set their minds on. Change for the sake of change that just further divides the fanbase.

Cortana never struck me as the type of ai that wouldn't self terminate upon her expiry date, but apparently 343 thinks so. And when she goes around in 4 she is a lot more moody and emotionally than she is ever shown to be, like she's more afraid of rampancy than the flood which doesn't make sense considering how much she know about the flood and what we see her go through in 3. Hell she was brave enough in 2 to stay behind on High charity on her own, fully believing that she may never get rescued.
I am just personally confused as to how halo 4 is now looked at fondly narrative speaking when I remember no one liking it back in the day.

The issue is that 343 is not really innovating the halo gameplay. Remember in the old bungie vidocs with the global battles and naval combat? Imagine if halo expanded on the massive battles and social features. Its not even that hard to do. We don't need this constant focus on competitive play and having lack luster maps for gamemodes. The constant focus on Spartans in the story have also made many things of the halo franchise feel obsolete, ODSTs and Marines barley exist anymore (Infinite doesn't really count cause you can't even bring them into missions with you) , Elites are just generic monsters now, and the military feel is gone. It feels like every other futuristic shooter on the market. 343 in general just feels like a corporate company that just wants to make halo into this MCU like e sports game instead of halo. They only seem to care about profits and attention rather then gameplay or story. They seem to only care about what THEY want, instead of what halo fans want. Since they refuse to add back legacy features for no reason other then they just don't like the halo audience and consider us a roadblock.
The fact that we still have had 4 failed launches and Microsoft has done nothing to clean house at 343 tells me where never gonna get a good halo game ever again. Which is a hard pill to swallow.
I haven't even gone into the shady shit that has been going on with the higher ups either, But all I will say that it looks like activison/blizzard 2.0 and it explains alot to why 343 has been so incompetent with this franchise over the years.

But instead, they throw their hands in the air, "ah geez, idk man" and give some half-assed shit about multiplayer being canon spartan story-time. You hit the nails on the head with this video.
My love for Halo started back in elementary school/middle school, when the first game came out. I didn’t own an XBOX at the time, but when I went to friends and family members’ houses who did, I’d play Halo. Eventually, I got an XBOX and I played Halo to my hearts content.
When 343 took over, I didn’t have too many negative criticisms for Halo 4 aside from the art style, the lack luster armor abilities, and not being able to play as an elite.
Then Halo 5 came and I started to notice it’s problems more. Lack of diverse customization options, no playable elites, no Invasion, playing more as Osiris than Blue Team, micro transaction (particularly for Warzone which is a fun but also stressful game type that is pay to win), Cortana being the villain, and lack of Covenant. I will admit that I like the variety of weapons and their vehicles, including their variants.
    Then Halo Infinite came.
The campaign had a weak story. Esharum was more of a hype man. Boss battles were cool. The Endless are worse than the Flood? They’re an enemy that had no building up references in previous games. Basically they came out of 343’s ass. It would’ve made more sense, to me at least, if Cortana did try to recruit Atriox, but because he refused, she destroyed his world, and he retaliated by vowing to wipe out humans, especially Chief, and him not “dying” off screen. The variety of weapons in Infinite is a joke. They took away the classic Shotgun, Fuel Rod, DMR, Plasma Pistol ability to emp vehicles, the Spartan Laser, the Plasma Rifle, Covenant Carbine, and replaced them with horrible weapons (Commando, Disruptor, Pulse Carbine, Disruptor, and Ravager). The Banshee is the worst. Vehicles don’t explode like they used to. The Rocket Hog is horrible. Then, as you mentioned, the customization is the worst it’s been, having a huge variety that’s blocked by a pay wall and armor cores. Plus the color selection. Another problem is the leveling up system. Halo Reach and Halo MCC had the best leveling up system and customization options, and yet did away with that. And again, no playable elites when they look much better than Halo 4 and 5 and no Firefight.
It’s taking too long for 343 to fix its problems. As you said, the management needs to be changed, but keep those that work hard. Or hand Halo to another company. Whatever they do, in the time that they have, they should be able to make changes in the slip space engine as well with leveling up, customization, and menu options. Maybe more medals, too.
Destiny understood what the fans want. And keep making progress. While Gears 5 had a rocky start with the campaign and multiplayer, overtime, they were able to make improvements. Are there aspects of the game that could still be improved, yes, but it’s better than it was before.
343 needs to jump on the bandwagon.

People have been complaining on the scorpion tank keyboard controls for the PC version of Halo anniversary, and what happened was that halo 2, 3, reach and 4 came out with the exact same controls.
All this despite the fact that Gearbox had made the scorpion with good controls on Halo custom edition, which was itself the base used to make anniversary for both xbox and pc. They also never fixed any of the issues with anniversary campaign since the original 2010 release, they released the xbone, xbone x and pc versions without any changes.

Honestly for as much as I've enjoyed Infinite's multiplayer, I agree with everything you said here. I feel like 343 has been nothing but reactionary instead of trying to innovate, on top of making all these amazing armors only to slap them behind a paywall and restricting the ability to really mix-and-match pieces. I have no grief with Infinite's style of equipment-based advanced movement, I love the Grappleshot, but I could definitely say they need to do more, like maybe an MP game mode with unlimited grappling and some kind of 'floor is lava' gimmick? The latest round of Entrenched and the shop-only BRODIE armor seem to be the breaking point from what I've seen (Also how fucking dare you paywall my precious brodie helmet 343).
It really does hurt to see how even with all that time Halo Infinite still came out barely treading the line of being the next Duke Nukem Forever. :(

    • @nagiaoe2434
      @nagiaoe2434 Před 2 lety +1

I'd say the way halo infinite handles equipment is pretty bad, you can activate overshield and cloak on demand, it was always a pickup that activates the second you grab it, don't people see how broken that is?
Imagine you're in a gunfight and the dude has his shields depleted only for him to activate overshield at the last second and killing you.
Hell, the last Spartan standing event is a testament to this, I won match after match not because of skill or luck but because I farmed overshields and cloak sometimes it literally landing next to me, I could activate one after the other like it was nothing.
The grapple is honestly nothing impressive and many games have done it way better, not to mention it has way to much range when you hook into vehicles.
The drop shields is also broken as hell, who thought a shield you can shoot through was a good idea? The bubble shield in Halo 3 would protect you from incoming damage but it meant you couldn't shoot if you were inside it either.
I'd say the only good addition is the repulser because at least it requires some degree of skill in its use and can save your ass from dumb weapons like the energy sword now that we lack a proper shotgun to counter it.

I too keep saying this series feels like coming back to an abusive relationship. I am saying it now. This was their last chance and I have hung up Infinite for good. I didn't make it to S2. Years of lies, poor choices, and a lack of understanding of what the fans want is just too much. 10 original maps at launch, forge, slit-screen co-op, functional theatre, no armor cores, customizable elites, and a concluding story is what we needed. Each season after the launch would be based on Bungie's old games. S1, Halo CE. Adds the OG shotgun and magnum with Blood Gulch and Chill Out. S2, Halo 2 adds SMG and Brute Shot with Hedlong and Ivory Tower. S3, brings the Spartan Laser and all the old power items with Sandbox and Foundry. S4, Halo: Reach with the DMR and Needle Rifle with Countdown and Boneyard. There's your first ENTIRE year. Each season comes with cosmetics related to the each game. Year 2 would be be two seasons. S1, Firefight with four maps and cosmetics galore. S2, Battle Royale with an extended version of Forge World and the City of New Mombasa's streets and rooftops. Boom. Two years of content and payable cosmetics to keep cash flowing, earning 343i some respect, and it would have been a king among BF2042 and Vanguard. Their whole communities would have flocked over just to play a functional game with steady content. Feel free to hire me 343i, I got more ideas if you want em. I'll take 50k and some benefits for the next for years as your head.

Id like to add one of my many other notices, Bungie only had 1 or 2 maps in each game that were too big, like Sandtrap, Boneyard, Spire, etc because they knew not everyone liked oversized maps, they understood Valhalla was a perfect size.
In halo 4 everyone hated big team maps because they were all oversized, its like they were built for 32 players. 343 actually responded well and made smaller, better maps for halo 4 dlc which was amazing. However halo 5 returned with… incredibly large big team maps and warzone that nobody wanted…

You wanna know what the pay was for the job? $16.49 with maybe a raise to $17 in 14 months to 2 years, with a 0.25 cent raise every year.
After the interview as I was driving home I was thinking “you fuckers are BEGGING to be robbed.” For a high end (or at least they claim they are) hotel chain. Wish I looked at the employee reviews as they said what’d you expect, including high turnover.

Halo has been my life for a long time. I picked it up quite late, 2014 I believe, but instantly fell in love and have been addicted to the campaigns and lore ever since. And though I want to say in 343i's defense that Halo Infinite, when compared to H4 and H5, was a distinct improvement, I can't help but to agree with what you're saying. My buring passion for this franchise kind of "cooled off" after the release of Infinite. The game we had been waiting for so long, the one that seemed to hold so many promises, a return to form. Yet when I finally got my hands on it, I felt disappointed, especially with the campaign. It looks like Halo, it sounds like Halo... but it isn't. The story feels off, shallow, incoherent and oddly insignificant. Beyond a few points, I felt little to no emotional connection to the story like I do with all of Bungies games. I finished the campaign feeling empty, knowing that this might have been Halo's last chance for redemption. And from a lore perspective, it was also a let down.
And of course, the other aspects you brought up are definitely true. I fullheartedly agree

This whole 343 story reads like an experience I had in a high school drama class.
The assignment was to take a monologue from any of the scripts we had studied up until that point and perform 60 seconds of it. If the monologue was too long to be performed within 60 seconds (which mine was), I was free to choose where to start and end. I felt awkward because no matter where I tried to place my start and end point, I couldn’t get my performance to deliver the same impact as the original work because the monologue was meant to be performed in its entirety. So, I decided - thinking I was being clever - to write in an extra line at the end of my performance to mitigate the fact that I was cutting the monologue short.
Fast forward to the day I give my performance and my teacher was not happy. The first word out of his mouth after I finished was: why? And he wasn’t even trying to hide the fact that he was asking a rhetorical question. What followed was the longest two minutes of my life where my teacher basically told me that I missed the point of the assignment and was delusional in thinking that I could somehow rewrite a professional script as a teenager who frankly doesn’t know what he’s doing.
Don’t change something before you understand what it is. Don’t lose sight of what you’re supposed to do. Don’t think you’re being clever just because you’re colouring outside the lines.

    • @physical_insanity
      @physical_insanity Před rokem +1

I'm not sure what the issue with that story is. Even if the change wasn't that good, you were doing it in the interest of preserving the original quality of it by restructuring it slightly. That alone shows ingenuity and care for integrity of the message being conveyed, and even if you have no idea what you're doing, it's still a crucial step in your learning. It's one small hiccup with a good intention, which is completely unlike 343's first jab at Halo which was a completely unnecessary overhaul that ruined something.
Maybe I'm missing something here, but your teacher sounds really pretentious and condescending. Sure, maybe it was missing the point of the assignment, but creativity and motivation like that is something to be appreciated and properly directed, not completely talked down. These two scenarios seem nothing alike, but again, maybe I'm missing something.
