High-low, scream, Soulful And what’s going is When he sings in his Prime voice like in HIGH NOTES he used to belt and sing with is Chest Voice and that’s Incredible. Hands Down 🙌🏼

    LOL, this was how I broke down lead vocals back in the early 90s when I was learning a cover song when I was in a rock band. I was listening on a Walkman with headphones, play, stop, mimic sing, quick rewind, play, stop, mimic sing, quick rewind. I did this for hours. Drove my family crazy!! 🤣

    It's funny but I was never into Mr. Big or Eric Martin even though I have heard this song a thousand times on the radio. I recently stumbled on the To Be With You video and I wonder how come I did not go wild for Eric Martin at the time. What a great voice and such a charming personality. I wonder how come Eric is not the megastar he ought to be. I mean he is famous but not like, let's say, David Lee Roth or Steven Tyler. Thank you, I really enjoyed this analysis. BTW I am glad you did mention Janis Joplin at the end, because indeed I do think he sounds a bit like her at times and even looks a bit like her.

    • @Vonbeardingham
      @Vonbeardingham  Před 4 lety +3

      Yeah its strange, the whole of mr big were a ridiculously talented band who most have gone on to do and play with some big names, but as you say erics not quite had that same success 😞 he does guest and sing on some albums with the band avantasia which are one of my favourite bands

    I am on a quest to get Mr. Big inducted! Write to : Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame / 1100 Rock & Roll Blvd / Cleveland, OH 44114, USA. We the F-A-N-S owe it to them & to the memory of Pat Torpey to make this happen. They are long-deserving of this 31+yrs achievement & recognition. Get your friends to write in also, the more nominations that are sent in, then they WILL get inducted, finally, where they truly do belong!! Thank You!!

    Please please could you comment on the parts at 1.16 where he holds the note at the "HOLD" you. (let me be the one to "HOLD" you)
    Also the bit at 2.31 where he holds the note on the word "ONE" (I'm the "ONE").
    Would just love to hear what you think of those two particular parts as you didn't cover them before 😀
    What an incredible faultless voice he has.

    • @Vonbeardingham
      @Vonbeardingham  Před 7 měsíci +2

      Those two words are really interesting. It sounds to me like he gives it a bit of yarling (lots of grunge singers did it in the 90’s like layne staley and eddie vedder). Instead of saying one, its more like wuurrrn, which you can kind of get if you raise your top lip up as though your were baring your top teeth. Add a nice bit of gravel and grit in there and you get another splendid eric martin vocal committed to record ❤
      Hold uses the same kind of technique and sound as well i think

    But got to be honest, his live performances are never that good.
    I don't know what actually happens why he can't nail the notes for many times.
