Thank you so much for the tutorial, the instructions left with my new boiler are useless. Was worried how to set it up for heating, dont really need the preset just to turn it off /on and adjust the temp . Thank you.
There is a fault with some of these units where the screen goes blank the date and time start flashing. The company know about this . It has a two year guarantee so get it replaced if you have this problem. Buttheunit is paired with the one next to boiler so either replace both, but apparently there is a way of resetting them to pair the new unit with the one next to boiler. I’m trying that this week. Wish me luck!
@@notazim5460 I tried to bend the battery connection to give it a more snug connection looks like it helps. Also changed the battery for new ones I tried different ones seems very sensitive to batteries as well even if they new it doesn't like it
Exactly same problem you can waste ages learning how to use this unit, get all the settings right, then unit starts flashing + loses the lot. Wish I had seen your post before my unit got too old. Over 3 years I've just got used to using it on manual. At least then I only have to put in the date and year etc and just press OK. I just daren't use the Auto setting. Unless I want to spend my entire life resetting it. To be honest I don't use my heating enough to warrant replacing this unit, but its nice to know I could if I wanted to. I believe they are made by Wolseley, the details are inside the unit if you take it apart. Be careful, its plastic and could easily break.
Thankyou, Phil, so much for this excellent demonstration.- I am so grateful to have found it. With no indication of what the bottom three buttons do and, initially, a less than clear user guide I was baffled. Thankfully your video has enabled me to understand this untuitive product.

Engineer said the good thing about control pad is batteries do not need changing on this because it's solar powered but the battery part is on control pad
I'm not aware of needing to reset the signal after changing the batteries. It sounds a little odd, as this isn't how this kind of thing usually works, so could indicate a problem with your unit. Either way, you probably need to get a gas-safe engineer to look at the connection to your boiler if it's lost the connection. Sorry I can't be more help.
Thank you. That was really useful. I’m not yet going to attempt to set it on to auto but it’s just nice to be able to switch it on/off. Have you a remedy for the problem raised by the other viewer?
Mine is a Drayton Digistat, Wireless Theermostat, and seems to be more complicated. It registers the temporature I want on the small screen, but doesnt instruct the Boiler ( in the Washroom) to raise the temprature in the house. The recieving power box light, next to the Boiler, shows green, and the boiler is working. WhatsUp ?
I don't know, but I would guess that the signal is not getting through. You'd need to speak to the engineer who fitted the controller and connected it to the boiler.
Thanks so much for this useful video. Would you know why from time to time oir control flashes the year 22. We have to reset the year, month and time to get it to work again.
@@hobbitprs Thanks for getting back to me. It’s been ok since I asked you. I did read someone had said there is this fault with some of them and the manufacturer is aware. If it continues I will contact them.
Can't say for sure. You could try changing the battery (if you know how) to see if that makes a difference, but if it's the thermostat itself that's broken, then it won't make a difference. Sorry I can't be more help.
You can get apps instead, but they're much more expensive. See things like Hive. In terms of your WiFi question, the easiest way to think about it is that the remote is generating its own WiFi signal that is not connected to the internet and only connected to your boiler. It's more like a radio-controlled car than your WiFi. If you want to use an app, then that requires an WiFi connection to connect the boiler to what ever control hub and mobile device you have. It's far more flexible as you can usually control the heating remotely over the internet rather than when you're in the house, but that comes at a premium.
In principle yes, but it depends on the amount of electrical interference. Don't put it next to a microwave, or put your microwave between the control and the boiler (just like WiFi), but I don't think you need to worry too much about electrics. Range is probably the bigger concern, and yes, electrics can affect range.
Hi, my radiators come in in the middle of the night when the settings are off, any thoughts please. Where is the optimisation switch, is this the problem.
If you're using a timer, there is no "off", as I understand it. I'd reduce the temperature setting at those times to be something far lower than your house ever gets to. 12 degrees is adequate for me, but your house may be different.
It shouldn't impact your water heating. If you are having problems there, then it could be that your boiler has an internal problem. My default first step with boiler problems is to check that the water pressure within the heating system is correct including bleeding the radiators. You may need to adjust the pressure more than once if you're bleeding the radiators. Bad heating system water pressure can cause boilers to work incorrectly and have an impact on the water heating.
It will stay on while the temperature is below the target temperature. The boiler will go on and off to keep the room at the temperature that has been set. If you want the heating to go on and off at specific times, then you set each of the Programmes (1-4) for the time and temperature. For example, if you wan the heating to come-on at 7:00 AM, then enter that in P1 with the target temperature. If you want it to then go off at 10:00AM, then enter that time in P2, with a much lower temperature, e.g. 13 degrees. You can the switch the heating on at a later time, e.g. 4:00 PM, by setting P3 to that time and a higher temperature, then off by setting P4 to a later time and much lower temperature.
Please can anyone help? I have this control panel and your video has been super helpful in teaching me how to set the timer. I would like my heating to be on 21°c 6am-7pm and 12°c 7pm-6am. However, the clock runs from 00:00am-11:59pm so to have my setting I would need 3 time slots (12°c 00:00am-6am, 21°c 6am-7pm, 12°c 7pm-11:59pm). Can anyone help as to how I can achieve this or a work around? When i go to bed at night can I override it to 12°c, and will it then still automatically come back on 21°c at 6am? How can I do this please? Hope this all makes sense! Thanks
Each Programme is basically a switch to go to a different setting. Most people want what you're describing, although they usually switch the heating off at some point during the day as well, but that's your choice. Essentially you have P1 as 6AM and 21C, then 7PM as 12C. Then the clock rolls over midnight to the next day, the 7PM programme is still active, so the temperature won't change until it hits the next P1 setting for the next day. I hope that makes sense.
My Dad had one of these installed with a new boiler and apart from being obtuse to program which is bad enough. It also has sporadic faults, today it randomly went to flashing the year 22 and stopped heating the house. No one had touched it. He couldn't work out how to get it working again. Fortunately a neighbour managed to reenter the correct time and its going again. Are there known faults with this controller too?
Same happens to us it keeps randomly resetting and turns the heating on. 22 keeps flashing and we have to reset it. Annoying bit is it turns the heating on while flashing 22
Sorry to hear that. Comments on here seem to suggest it's not the best controller. My only thought would be that the batteries might be running down if it's losing the time.
Hello and very many thanks for this informative video . Don’t know if you or anyone else has had this problem…….. the screen on my unit has frozen , I’ve changed the batteries, I’ve left the unit without batteries in for a few hours , put new batteries in again . Still the same , no matter which buttons I press the screen stays frozen ……… any ideas?
Oh no... If you've removed then replaced the batteries and it's not reset, then that sounds fundamental, as that usually clears the chip cache, which is what can affect all devices with chips. I'd suggest you'll need a replacement, but you could see what an engineer says.
Hi, I have a similar problem but my screen is completely blank so I have changed the batteries but it is still blank, is there any way to reset it? Nothing happens when I press any of the buttons, thanks
Hi This is my second thermostat the other one my engineer sent back he gave me a new one and now im habing problems with this one now the little flame 🔥 isnt comming on to let me know its on and if i turn it to OFF it still comes on 3 times in the night i have to turn the boiler off . Any advive please thank you
Not sure I can help with the flame icon. Sorry on that. However, the thermostat doesn't actually operate as on-off. You set periods of highs and lows, so day time you may want a high of 19 degrees, so the boiler will kick in when the temperature drops below 19. For the other periods, the same logic applies, it's just a lower temperature. Depending on what kind of house you get, you may find the temperature drops below 10 degrees. In my conservatory with poor insulation it's regularly at 5. If you have that overnight temperature set too high, it will kick in. The solution is to reduce the overnight temperature so it won't kick in. I hope that helps.
could someone tell me is the controller connected to the wifi? reason im asking is when we used to put the heating on manually before we would get the candle on the display to see the heating was on we have recently changed broadband providers and have now lost the candle icon from the controller....thanks in advance
This model isn't connected to the wifi, but it could be that the wifi signals are interfering with the signals from the controller. This would be because as the amount of traffic that we send on wifi has increased, the frequencies most commonly used in wifi potentially disrupt other radio waves. It could also be a coincidence and something has changed on your controller. It has been a warm start to the year in my opinion (until this last week) and it could be that your house is warmer and therefore not hitting the minimum low-temperature set in the controller. Before doing much else, I'd try adjusting that temperature in the control and checking batteries etc.
Hiya did you manage to solve this problem as I am having same issues? Didn't use our heating system over summer but when I tried turn it on no flame appears on the control. I have replaced batteries and made sure the minimum temp is lower than the actual temp. Still nothing. The WiFi control box near the boiler is flashing red 😵💫
I'm not sure. You don't really want to keep adjusting the programmes. If I was in the house, I'd switch it to manual and then back to auto once the house is warm enough. I guess that doesn't help if you're not going to be around.
@@hobbitprs This is what I would do. I’m not convinced this thing is an apex thermostat though, are you? Its been supplied to me and I didn’t question the lad who has installed it into my house. I may have shopped around otherwise.
I know how to programme my thermostat but when it's OFF it says the temperature is 27C - how do I adjust that particular temperature & should I have it in Auto or Manual?
The big number on the screen is the temperature in the room. When setting the temperature in either manual or automatic, the heating will be on when the temperature in the room is below the temperature you want it to be. If the room is already hotter, then the heating won't come on. If you want the heating to come-on 'right now', then you need to set it to manual and adjust the target temperature to be above the current room temperature. The difference between automatic and manual is really about how you want to control the heat in general. Automatic is just about setting times for the hearing to come on and off. It's good for switching the heating on before you get-up or before you come in from being out . Manual is about overriding whatever is currently happening to make the boiler do what you want right now.
It's the beginning part of the video for about the first 2 minutes. You switch the heating to manual, and use the side buttons to adjust the target temperature.
Sounds like you're in settings and need to set the year. Does the video at this following place answer the question? czcams.com/video/hscwQATts_w/video.html
If I have this unit in the lounge set at 20 degrees and the room hits 20 degrees does that mean all my other radiators which have thermostatic valves will go cold ?
Set to Manual and adjust the target temperature to be below the temperature you want. Otherwise you can simply switch the whole thing off by pressing the arrow beneath the "off" symbol.
We’re you able to resolve the issue and if so how? I have seen a review that suggested changing the batteries or removing the batteries and then just replacing them This product does not seem to have good reviews and is definitely not user friendly🤨.
Sorry I missed your comment. Is this happening when setting the time? If so then press the righthand button of the 3 buttons at the bottom and the system will cycle through changing the date and time until the end and will return to the menu screen. If this doesn't work, then I agree with Graham's comment that changing the batteries may help. All these remotes I've had go haywire when low on battery, but none of the one's I've had gives you much warning - things just break. Sorry I can't help more.
@@hobbitprs yes thankyou. I did it then it just happened magically. This you tube video has taught me really well. I like it. I know now what to do. Sorry for the late reply. And thankyou very much everyone for your consideration and replies. Thankyou
If you mean the flame symbol that comes on when the boiler is on. To get the boiler to come-on either set a programme, for the boiler to come on at particular time, or set it to manual and set the temperature you want your room to reach. If the current temperature is higher than the temperature you've set, then the boiler won't come on.
Just moved into bungalow after full renovation and new boiler. Been three weeks trying to suss out how to set the timers. Yes, instruction book worse than useless. Thanks to this video I think I now have it sorted. Very poor design though, would be nice to have an override button to just switch it back on during the day if needed outside timing periods.
Seems quite a few people are experiencing poor quality. I'm pretty sure there's no app, as their now wifi set-up for the controller. There are controllers that can do that kind of thing, but they are far more expensive.
Do you mean completely 'off'? That's the righthand button of the bottom 3. It toggles. If you want to know how you get the boiler to come-on then you have to make the target temperature higher than the current temperature. This is either by programming in the AUTO setting, or swapping to Manual.
@@marilyncroucher8010 You can always use the controls on the boiler itself to switch it off if your thermostat isn't working. I'd always try to change the batteries to see if that fixes any strange behaviour with the remote control.
Hmm. Didn't come across that. Have you tried pressing that bottom-right arrow more than once, so does it toggle between OFF and ON? Or after hitting the bottom-right arrow, have you tried using the up-down buttons on the right to change it? Otherwise, I'm afraid I don't know.
Sorry to hear that - and sorry for missing your comment. From the community here, it sounds like this thermostat is a bit delicate and doesn't always work. It depends what you mean by doesn't turn-on. If you mean the screen is blank and you can't get any response, then that sounds like it's broken. Sorry. If it's an intermittent problem where it looks on, but doesn't switch the boiler on when you want, then check the temperature for the thermostat. It will only turn the boiler-on when the temperature in the room is below the temperature on your thermostat. I hope that helps, but fear it won't.

It just reappeared one day...
Is there a quick way to boost it for 1 2 or 3 hour's like my old one had?
I'm wondering this too. Did you find a way?
@@pissyballs No I haven't i don't think its a very good thermostat to be honest.
Thankyou
Does this refer to any particular model ? Thanks
Yes, but sadly with zero instructions and no labelling on the device, your guess is as good as mine!
Great job Phil & just in time, this useless controller was about to be trashed!
Just had one of these and I just want to be able to put the heating on and off as I need to so how do I do that please because I haven't a clue?
It's the beginning part of the video for about the first 2 minutes. You switch the heating to manual, and use the side buttons to adjust the target temperature.
@@hobbitprs Thanks very much indeed xx
I need a remote controll for Ideal boiler
Sorry - I'm not a heating engineer, so I can't advise. While this model didn't come with instructions, it has yet to cause any problems.
Our warning triangle on cannot turn heating on any ideas?
Sorry I'm not an engineer, so no idea.
My thermostat is flashing year what do I do please
Sounds like you're in settings and need to set the year. Does the video at this following place answer the question? czcams.com/video/hscwQATts_w/video.html
If I have this unit in the lounge set at 20 degrees and the room hits 20 degrees does that mean all my other radiators which have thermostatic valves will go cold ?
Yes.
@@hobbitprs Thanks :)
@@barumman So the temperature sensor is IN this unit ?
help how do i change the batteries!!! it wont turn on and my heating is stuck on
Really sorry - I don't know how to change the battery. I'd assume (but don't know) that the cover or part of the cover comes off.
The battery is flashing on the control pad please please help
Really sorry - I don't know how to change the battery. I'd assume (but don't know) that the cover or part of the cover comes off.
How to turn my heating off manually
Set to Manual and adjust the target temperature to be below the temperature you want. Otherwise you can simply switch the whole thing off by pressing the arrow beneath the "off" symbol.
It is stuck n flasing on the year. I don't know what to do?
We’re you able to resolve the issue and if so how? I have seen a review that suggested changing the batteries or removing the batteries and then just replacing them This product does not seem to have good reviews and is definitely not user friendly🤨.
@@grahamedwards9920 Agreed but this chap explains it perfectly and if I can work it, anyone can :-)
Sorry I missed your comment.
Thankyou
How do I change the batteries?
Ha, worked it out. Panel on front at bottom. But had to wear rubber gloves to push it down and off, as it was VERY stiff.
I didn't know, so thanks for coming back and sharing!
Thank you! Plumber told me this was simple. Well yes once you know how. Useless manual.
how do you get that candle symbol..??
If you mean the flame symbol that comes on when the boiler is on. To get the boiler to come-on either set a programme, for the boiler to come on at particular time, or set it to manual and set the temperature you want your room to reach. If the current temperature is higher than the temperature you've set, then the boiler won't come on.
@@hobbitprs cheers ..!!!
it should come on automatically
@@allanwesthead8976 think ive sorted it now dont know how but..many thanks
I don't think the thermostat is connected to the boiler because the is not responding to the new changes
Sorry to hear that. You'll need boiler engineer to come and set that up for you, as the receiver is wired into the boiler.
@@hobbitprs
Thanks very much for the accurate information, called them and booked a boiler engineer, 🙏
These are absolutely rubbish quality. Mine is faulty keeps switching off and on. Is there a app for phones that can control this?
Seems quite a few people are experiencing poor quality. I'm pretty sure there's no app, as their now wifi set-up for the controller. There are controllers that can do that kind of thing, but they are far more expensive.
How do you turn it on I can turn it off
Do you mean completely 'off'? That's the righthand button of the bottom 3. It toggles. If you want to know how you get the boiler to come-on then you have to make the target temperature higher than the current temperature. This is either by programming in the AUTO setting, or swapping to Manual.
Everything is just flashing. I can't turn the heating off
@@marilyncroucher8010 You can always use the controls on the boiler itself to switch it off if your thermostat isn't working. I'd always try to change the batteries to see if that fixes any strange behaviour with the remote control.
Where is the boiler?
When I press the bottom right arrow, it's going to manual setting but it's saying "OFF" above it.
Do you know how I change this back to on?
Hmm. Didn't come across that. Have you tried pressing that bottom-right arrow more than once, so does it toggle between OFF and ON? Or after hitting the bottom-right arrow, have you tried using the up-down buttons on the right to change it? Otherwise, I'm afraid I don't know.
nothing about battery change ,
Cant get mine to even go on....yes checked batteries
Sorry to hear that. It sounds broken to me.
Water in wall tremp
Hate this damn controller!
It is not the easiest to use!
anybody know what to do when it will not turn on. Even if batteries have been replaced. Do i need a new one?
Sorry to hear that - and sorry for missing your comment. From the community here, it sounds like this thermostat is a bit delicate and doesn't always work. It depends what you mean by doesn't turn-on. If you mean the screen is blank and you can't get any response, then that sounds like it's broken. Sorry. If it's an intermittent problem where it looks on, but doesn't switch the boiler on when you want, then check the temperature for the thermostat. It will only turn the boiler-on when the temperature in the room is below the temperature on your thermostat. I hope that helps, but fear it won't.
TOO QUIET.
