    It is a great camera, maybe the best p&s film camera ever made.
    I bought my GR1s 3 years ago and i use it a lot and it still works almost perfectly - only the film counter top lcd sometimes doesnt work perfectly.
    I think that it is an urban myth, that they die so "quickly". I talked to a lot GR1 shooters and not one of them had problems besides the top lcd - and fourtnately everything is reparable nowadays!
    But i really hope that this myth that those cameras quickly die keeps alive for a long time, otherwise they will easily cost more then a contax t3 or yashica t5.

      Yes, I've owned a number of these cameras and all of them presented a problem or two sooner or later.

    I've always been curious about the GR1, and you make it very tempting. I have a digital GRII that's very pocketable and sort of half-scratches that take-it-anywhere itch, albeit in a digital form. The GR1 seems like a joy to shoot---maybe even more so since you know it won't last forever. I hope I find a great deal on one some day. Great shots as usual! Thanks, Jeremy.

      Yes! It’s a joy to shoot! So many personally valuable pictures of mine have been made on that camera..

    Great video!!
    I love my GRIII, is the body that inspires me the most to document and enjoy photography, and similarly when using film I find my self gravitating to my Rollei 35. There is something truly magical on compact size cameras.
    Possibly my dream of merging both experiences will be with the GR28 LTM lens on a Leica IIIF body

      Oh man yes! That would be a dream combination!

      I also have the rollei 35. It's a great little camera. A new Rollei 35 AF is expected to be released this summer. I'm not sure what the specs will be yet, but a new film camera maintaining most of the old body should be a hit.

    Fantastic review thank you I’m trying to find a 35mm point and shoot at an affordable price. I own. 120 point and shoot Fuji GA645 W 45 mm lens a Horseman FA45 and a Fuji Pro 2 digital. A 35 mm is what I need now for the way I shoot my street work.

    Loved my GR1V! .. Top tip - dont keep them in your trouser pocket - dust gets into the viewfinder, and it's not fixable.

      Yes.. The convenience outweighs the dust (to me) 😌

    There is a little known 35mm film P&S camera out there with infinity and snap focus, 28mm lens.
    Downsides? No aperture control, no exposure comp, it's bigger, lens is max 3.5 and not as sharp (not a prime either!) and the VF has no frame lines (and is in general pretty terrible). It's also not a Ricoh. But it's cheap. Like sub-$100 cheap.

    The GR1 is such an awesome camera. I have never used one but I've lusted over one for so long but never pulled the trigger. It's hard to justify the cost vs. reliability. So I've opted for the R1 just to try out. I am curious to know your thoughts on the R1?

    • @jeremy-t
      @jeremy-t  Před 10 měsíci +1

      Yes it is! I haven't tried the R1 before.. But if you can get your hands on a good condition GR1 it's an amazing camera!

    I made a similar love story for my Ricoh GR2 a while back. Always thought about getting a film GR but boy do they not instill any level of confidence :(

    Did you use snap most of the time? Also did you med with exposure that much or just auto? Thanks!

    • @jeremy-t
      @jeremy-t  Před 9 měsíci

      Yes, I’m barely on autofocus.. it’s usually 2m or infinity!

  • @jeffthatcherphotography
    @jeffthatcherphotography Před 2 měsíci

    what? you can set it to 2.8 and it goes to 2.8 and not in auto mode unlike some cameras that are 2/3rds more expensive than this one??? no way! lol
