There's a small music venue in Winchester in the UK called The Railway. I love the place. It's everything a small music venue should be, and it's right near my house. I had tickets to see this band Mandolin Orange play there. I saw the listing on the venue's website and thought they sounded like my sort of thing. I bought one album to try and get into them a little - Such Jubilee, quickly followed by another This side of Jordan, quickly followed by another Quiet Little Room. By the time the show came around, they were my new favourite band, and I was listening to them on pretty much constant rotation... It turned out my wife had tickets to go and see Carlos Acosta with her sister on the same night, so I stayed home and looked after the children. I like to think that my empty chair had a wonderful night. I hope I get the opportunity again. These days I just call them my favourite band.

Joseph Warren was a founding father who fought in the revolutionary war, but later in the song alludes to Warren’s hate didn’t die with him and carried over into the civil war and people of the south. Just thought it was an interesting connection. I’m ashamed to say I just recently discovered these amazing artists and can’t get enough. Please keep making amazing music.
I’ve been listening to Watchouse fka Mandolin Orange for several years now thanks to my young son-in-law Zach and his wonderful taste in music. I too was instantly drawn to this Poignant song with it’s amazing lyrics and beautiful harmony. I’ve listened to it dozens and dozens of times and as a history buff, it really speaks to me on a deep level. So grateful to this group.
