  • Whether you remember the Capri from its 1970s and 1980s heyday or you’re meeting it for the first time, buckle up because this electric crossover has a lot to reveal!
Those who do, you might be scratching your head, thinking, "How is this sleek, electric crossover the Capri I remember?" Well, the 2024 Capri is a whole new beast. Unlike the two-door coupe that once ruled the roads as a European pony car, this new version is a mid-size electric crossover built on Volkswagen Group’s MEB platform. It’s sharing the spotlight with the Europe-market Explorer EV.
Imagine the electric Explorer as Ford's version of the ID.4 crossover. Now, picture the Capri joining the fray as Ford's take on the quasi-coupe ID.5. Design-wise, the Capri is a mixed bag. It’s not the most exciting car to look at, but it’s far from dull. The flat roof and angular hips give off serious Polestar 2 vibes when viewed from the side.
Things get interesting under the hood-or rather, under the floor. The 2024 Capri will launch in the UK with two models, both dubbed "Extended Range." The base model is a single-motor rear-wheel drive powerhouse with 282 horsepower and an impressive 390 miles of range (according to Europe’s WLTP test). This model features a 77-kWh battery pack that charges from 10-80 percent in just 28 minutes.
If you’re looking for more oomph, the Premium version adds a second motor for all-wheel-drive capability, upping the power to 335 horses. The battery’s usable capacity jumps slightly to 79 kWh, and the maximum charging power increases to 185 kW, reducing the 10-80 percent charge time to 26 minutes. Despite the extra motor, the Premium’s range drops a bit to 368 miles. Speed-wise, the base model goes from 0 to 62 mph in 6.4 seconds, while the Premium does it in a zippy 5.3 seconds.
Unsurprisingly, the Capri’s interior borrows heavily from the electric Explorer. The centerpiece is a 14.6-inch vertical touchscreen that slides to reveal a hidden storage compartment. The front armrest conceals a 0.6 cubic ft. "MegaConsole," perfect for stashing your essentials.
Now, here’s the kicker: we won’t be seeing the Capri stateside. Production is set for Cologne, Germany. For our friends across the pond, the standard model starts at $61,731, while the Premium trim will set you back $66,995 based on current exchange rates.

" hey there car enthusiasts", and then talks about an ugly electric suv.
