  • Is the 18v worth the extra $100s over the Makita 12v?
    Please note for true force of the tool, equation (Force=PSI X Area of cylinder) was used for the data in the graph.
    Example Ryobi .785 X 818 PSI=642

    You need to register for the warranty.
    I’ve had two submerged batteries in a hot truck toolbox go bad and they just mailed me two new ones
    My OMT was in that toolbox too. Took it to Home Depot three days later it was working again.
    I dropped my impact off like at least three roofs. The belt clip screw hole got stripped out. Clip on the left side was annoying they mailed me a new handle.

      It was, thats how I got a new one. Just was a weird process with HD.

    I bought the Ridgid recently and before I had a chance to register it the darn thing broke just like yours. The manufacture date said it was made in 2020 (had been sitting around for 4 years at a home depot). The switch failed on it when the little bolt on the back kept going and the switch failed to tell it to stop. Once it keeps going the gears are out of alignment and can't pull the plunger back. I was able to fix it for a min until it did it again and the force of the gears snaped the bolt off. I just returned it wasn't about to send it off. As much as I enjoy Ridgid and it's the tool platform I've invested money into I'm going to look into the other brands you tested for this type of tool until Ridgid comes out with a new design.

      Sad to hear I wasn’t the only one. Yeah I like Ridgid for the most part, normally they are a good value in IMO.
      Hopefully the videos help you decide on another option.

      @@Tools-Tested yeah this was the only the 2nd RIDGID tool I have owned that had a major failure but the first one to do so not at a job site. I'm holding on hope they release a new one or at least can say "we have fixed the issues in this model with improved parts aka the censor switch tab that bent like an aluminum can."

    I have a couple of Ridgid batteries, so that unit somewhat appeals to me. I also have an air compressor. I was looking at the Campbell Hausfeld caulk gun for around $60. Do you think a pneumatic gun would be preferable to the battery powered Ridgid? Great video.

    • @Tools-Tested
      @Tools-Tested  Před rokem +1

      Personally I would probably go with the Ridgid, that way your not battling with the air hose. Thanks!

      @@Tools-Tested I ended up with a cheaper version of the Campbell pneumatic caulk gun. Took about 2 tubes of sealant to work out the right pressure (35 psi) and usage, but it worked great. No hand fatigue at all.

    I used to work for a company that did all the tool repairs for Home Depot (on a National level - we gave support for over 900 US stores)
    If a tool or lawn equipment broke, the customer would return it to HD, and then we would pick up the defected items and deliver the repaired ones back. Typically, if the item was going to cost more than 50% of the retail price to repair, then the store would replace the item if it was still under warranty. (Unless it was caused by customer abuse/misuse. etc)
    We tried to provide a 1-week turn-around on the repairs, but some items would have parts backlogs, which took longer,
    We did this for them exclusively for about 10 years, then we started the same service plan for Lowe's, and of course HD got cranky about that and cancelled our service agreement. (Orange and Blue does not play well together)

      @Tools-Tested  Před rokem

      Good information thanks! Yeah my store didn’t seem to know what to do. I think in this case they should have just thrown it out.
      Yeah I can see how they wouldn’t like that. I’m surprised both still sell dewalt.

      @@Tools-Tested You are right - Depot and Lowe's try to insist tool makers sign an exclusive agreement, but DeWalt is owned by Stanley Black and Decker (which also owns several other brands like Craftsman, etc) and they simply refuse to sign the deal. DeWalt is such a popular brand name that the big box dealers know's they need to carry it, so they let them slide on the exclusivity requirements)
      My all-time favorite story was when the CEO of Snapper lawn products went for a meeting with Home Depot buyers, and they agreed to sell their products, but only if they met a certain price point. The CEO said he could not possibly meet that price, and HD offered to help set him up in China and other markets to build them, so they could be made cheaper, so they could meet the price point target. Depot promised a contract of 50k units the first year, and 100k in year 3.
      The CEO refused the offer and when he went back to his next board meeting, he said he would be remembered as the smartest, or the dumbest CEO in history for passing up the deal.
      He reasoned that their name brand had a certain value, and making cheap product would diminish that value in the long run. Not to mention, their deal only netted them about $10 per unit profit. (which was good for HD large items). - That company I worked for also owned the Campbell Hausfeld brand, and they sold several models of their compressors to Home Depot for $1 over the cost to manufacture them. They did this, so they could sell all their tools, fittings, hoses, tool oil, etc through them, which all carried a 300-500% profit margin.

    How are the ones that have high dispense speed but not necessarily high pressure? Wouldn't they be correlated?

    • @Tools-Tested
      @Tools-Tested  Před rokem

      For the most part yeah they seem to be correlated, the higher the speed available the lower the pressure. Which I guess would make sense for the most part.

    please how do I know the Torque for each drill or impact device?

      Hi, it’s hard to tell. Most will give a spec on the box in inch pounds. I plan on testing drills but it will be a few months.

    Can these push anchoring epoxy in the single tube? My guess is they can

    • @Tools-Tested
      @Tools-Tested  Před rokem

      It really depends how many tubes you plan on putting through it. I put about 12 tubes through the older style ryobi and it actually bent the pushing rod. I would recommend closing the highest performance one you can. Those tubes take a ton of force.

    My Ridgid caulk gun rod will fall all the way back when using overhead! Think electrical tape in the gear track would prevent the rod from falling back, I'm concerned the rod would get waded up inside?

    • @Tools-Tested
      @Tools-Tested  Před 8 měsíci

      Sadly I think doing so might jam up in the drive gear, I can see how this is an issue in overhead work.

  • @superspeeder
    @superspeeder Před rokem +2

    I still think the Makitas might be detecting a blockage and backing off to protect the tools from damage. Makita usually don’t make outlandish claims about their tool performance.
    Can you use a throttle valve to allow the cylinder to flow some fluid while measuring pressure? Perhaps store the caulk in a fridge/freezer to increase viscosity to test under more difficult conditions? Those plastic tubes may not survive though.
    Glad to see you update the previous video with the latest/missing/failed models! More channels should do this, much easier than re-shooting the whole thing over.

    • @Tools-Tested
      @Tools-Tested  Před rokem +2

      Yeah it does seem kinda odd they would overate this much.
      I will add a restrictor and see if it changes.
      Yeah I hope to do more update videos, definitely when new products come out.
