How to Use a Fishing Stringer (Keeping Fish Alive While Fishing ) -- Different Types

  • There are a variety of fishing stringers on the market. Keeping fish alive and fresh while fishing is important. I find a simple stringer with a pointed end and loop end are the cheapest and most effective at keeping fish alive. They also work great for small boats and kayaks without a live-well. Other options include metal stringers, fish baskets, and a large bucket. However, large fish will not fit within most fish baskets or buckets.

    I know this is an old video, but I hope you’ll see and reply anyway. How long can you expect fish to stay alive like that in water? I’m putting one in my emergency go bag, so in a let’s say apocalypse event, I catch 10 fish, but need to save them alive to last as long as possible. How long would they last, so I know when to eat them by? Or is it random and I should just watch them closely?

    • @OtterVonBiscuit
      @OtterVonBiscuit Před 3 lety +2

      If you don't have somewhere to store the fish, it would be recommended to only catch what you can eat then and there or preserve through primitive techniques. Stringers wouldn't be for storing fish indefinitely.

    • @OtterVonBiscuit
      @OtterVonBiscuit Před 3 lety +2

      @@Nathan35077 If it were me, I wouldn't keep them there longer than I was there fishing. So less than a day I would aim for. Probably better to bring them back to a filled bathtub/pool than leave them out where you caught them. I'm sure other fish or wildlife would take your fish if you left where you caught them, even if they would technically survive on the stringer for longer.

    This is halfway right. A fish must be able to close its mouth, in order to push water through the gills, hence breathe. Pierce the spike through both upper and lower mouth so the stringer line/cord/clip is NOT caught between its lips and the fish will be able to close its mouth and not drown/suffocate.

    Nice video and thanks. Just a note; people are overusing the word "basically" in their videos. It is my belief that it is used, consciously or not, to impress the viewer that there is esoteric information that the presenter is in possession of. The other possibility is that "basically" has become a part of speech similar to the use of the word "like". A habitual filler word. A phrase that is overused today is "pretty much". I don't think you used that phrase.
    I see semiprofessional videos which repeatedly and indiscriminately use the word "basically". The best videos do not use the word. I hope that you accept my recommendations in the manner in the constructive way they are intended. Thanks again for the video.
