  • Hathersage, Peak District, Derbyshire, England - Join me for a village tour!
Hathersage is a village and civil parish in the Peak District in Derbyshire, England. It lies slightly to the north of the River Derwent, approximately 10 miles south-west of Sheffield.
Join us as we take a walk through Hathersage Village from the Little John Hotel and Hathersage Social Club, before heading onto Main Road and to The George Hotel and Pub.
From The George we head up Main Road, passing places like Cintra's Tearoom, Heritage Barbers, Go Outdoors shop and then up to The Crofts where we see the Tourist Information Office, Hope Valley Vets and Hathersage Fish and Chips.
Next up on this Hathersage tour is Bank House bar, restaurant and cocktail bar! Looks good to me!
Hathersage Craft Shop is seen next (minimum spend £5 if you're buying on card) and Alpkit and then Maazi Hathersage Indian Restaurant
Fanny and Clara is next where you can nip in to get yourself done up and looking your best!
At the eastern end of the Hope Valley is Hathersage, a large busy village with rich historical, industrial and literary associations.
Hathersage has become a popular place to visit for those in search of legendary heroes and literary heroines. By the south door of the church of St Michael is the grave of Robin Hood's lieutenant, Little John, who was reputedly born in Hathersage. Near the village other associated sites with the outlaw are Robin Hood's Cave, Well and Stoop. Charlotte Bronte has closec onnections with the village and it is said to be featured it in her novels. North Lees Hall is thought to have been the model for Thornfield Hall in Jane Eyre.
Hathersage was once an important centre for the manufacture of millstones, needles and pins. There are some outstanding areas of natural beauty surrounding the village, including Stanage and Burbage Edges, Offerton and Abney Moor and Bretton Clough. The river Derwent passes just south of the village at Leadmill, where there is a picturesque bridge an old country inn.
Things to do; A popular base for exploring the Hope Valley, either on foot or by vehicle, there is plenty to see and do here. Outdoor enthusiasts can walk, cycle, climb, ride and even fly nearby. Some fine old country houses like Offerton, Highlow, and Hazelford Halls are set in the spectacular countryside surrounding the village.
The Derwent Valley Heritage Trail runs close by the village. With a wealth of facilities including shops selling local crafts, foods, plants, clothing and outdoors equipment and good hotels, pubs, cafes and restaurants, it is a busy village.
Leisure facilities include an outdoor swimming pool, open during the summer, tennis courts, bowling green and a fitness and health centre. Just out of the village in the unusual Round Building is a small factory making specialist cutlery, where tours are often available and there is also a factory shop. There is a good selection of accommodation for visitors in hotels, inns, guesthouses, holiday cottages and campsites in and around the village, where there is also a popular Youth Hostel.
The village has an annual carnival in July and a Horticultural Show in August. There are regular performances, including a pantomime, by the local amateur dramatic society the Hathersage Players, and occasional concerts by the village choral society and silver band are held in the church.

I'd love to live in Hathersage , a lovely village in the Peak District National Park yet all the Facilities of a major city are just 20 minutes away (by train) I also love the heated open air swimming pool. Disadvantages....traffic on the main road in Summer especially

Great video, love this village, I know it's busy with the traffic but you take the rough with the smooth. Can't believe you passed the Little John pub without popping in for a cheeky pint. Keep filming.............

Visited here just 10 days ago. Hiked around Peak District. It was amazing! Such a change from Sheffield!
    P. S. Bank House is a good one. I personally loved it because they serve food, alcohol, and best of all, coffee (good coffee, mind you) at the same place!!!

I've never been to Hathersage, but it's the type of village I love. It reminds me a lot of Castleton. I think the same stone is used on the buildings and cottages? Beautiful! :)

All the buildings in the Peak district are made of the same stone and of a uniform colour which gives it an old world charm.
