The oil that is extracted from our lands is more than enough. The problem is that we do not have a refinery, therefore the oil is transported next door to Mexico to be refined, then brought back. This results in the high prices of gasoline in Belize. Last thing that I have heard on this problem is that they have the backing of Mexican investors to construct a refinery in Belize.
They should put it up north near the border of Mexico, way out of site of most people. Or in the Cayo District near the border of Guatemala. Location, location, location.

The oil that is extracted from our lands is more than enough. The problem is that we do not have a refinery, therefore the oil is transported next door to Mexico to be refined, then brought back. This results in the high prices of gasoline in Belize. Last thing that I have heard on this problem is that they have the backing of Mexican investors to construct a refinery in Belize.

I do not live in Belize but they do not offer permanent residency in 1 year. Takes long time. All Belizean towns are similarly priced but rent is less outside the main cities.

Many people in Southern Belize , in towns such as Placencia and Punta Gorda are doing relatively well. Also, emigration was largely responsible for bringing down the literacy rate of Belize, because up until the mid 1980's Belize had the highest literacy rate in that entire region, thanks to the British system of education. At one time, Belize had an approximately 85 to 90 percent literacy rate. Corporal punishment in schools was legal and most primary schools had religious affiliations such as with the Catholic Church.
