  • We finally make it to Scotland and we are greeted with Scottish weather… RAIN! We port in Queensferry on Norwegian Dawn on the first stop of our British Isles cruise. We booked the hop on hop off bus excursion which picks us up at the port and starts the tour here into Edinburgh.
I am so glad that we booked this as at least we got to see a good bit of the city this way since the weather was a bit against us. But we did hop off in a nice area when the rain slowed down and took our driver’s advice on a local pub for lunch.
The city of Edinburgh is amazing!! The architecture and the history! We couldn’t see or show as much as we would have liked… but that means we have to come back for a longer visit!!!

My heart belongs in Scotland. Edinburgh is a fabulous city. So much history and just one of the best vibes. Soooooo much great food. Will be taking a small group to Edinburgh, Scotland and Seahouses, Northumberland in May 2025. Can hardly wait to put my feet back on Scottish soil again. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Edinburgh! Also, Haggis is great when it’s done correctly! Delicious and that’s coming from someone who HATES any type of organ meat. We actually visited Scotland in August of 2022. We flew into Glasgow and rented a car, drove to Isle of Skye, Inverness, Stirling and Edinburgh. If we had had more time, I would have driven us up to the far north and taken the ferry over to the Orkney Islands and spent waaaaaay more time in Edinburgh. Also, driving in Scotland was a blast, especially as an American driving a stick shift with the stick on the wrong side!!! 😂

He also said about Scottish MPs " if anyone Scottish has the wish to be a SMP, should be baned for life". Haggis is wonderful you missed out, when i cook it i do half sweed and half carrots mashed with a load of butter salt and more and more pepper, wonderful by its self. I also do chargrilled veg with Haggis which is great.

I've been to Scotland 3 times in my life so far, and I can honestly say that Edinburgh will always be my favorite. It just feels so cozy and the people there are the nicest. I moved to Paisley near Glasgow for 10 months in my 20's (special work circumstance) and I can testify that wet and cold are the status quo. If I waited to explore when it wasn't rainy I never would've seen anything lol. I'm so glad y'all enjoyed it and definitely support all the other comments on trying the haggis. It's surprisingly delicious. These days it's usually made in sausage casings and I'd describe it like a spiced meat loaf type dish. Can't wait to live vicariously through the rest of this series!

As a Brit I found the aversion to rain a little odd, it's just water 🤣 I wouldn't let it stop me doing anything touristic! I'm glad you enjoyed Edinburgh though 😁 It's definitely worth spending a week there followed by some time in the Highlands which is absolutely stunning. Beware though, It's always raining in the highlands but it feels right, like the rain feels like it belongs there and the reason it's so lush and green is because of all that rain :)

Welcome back to the UK. Shame you picked the winter to come back. We never travel up north after September or before April. You were brave to arrive with just a cardy though. Full waterproof in Scotland what ever the time of year. I hope you can return to see our amazing country in the summer.

Oh how I wish I could take you Edinburgh. I try to make it there on almost every trip I take to the Isles.
The best way though, because I love trains, is to fly into London and take the train up the East Coast. It's amazing. Oh how I love that. All the great scenery on the way up and then my heart swells when I see Waverly station coming into view. Waverly has changed a lot over the years. I watched a lot of it under construction as I came and went.
I usually suggest for first timers to go in late July or into August (though August is REALLY busy because it's festival season) and then any subsequent return in the fall. I've learned to love the Edinburgh rain.

We were in Scotland a few weeks ago, and spent 3 days in Edinburgh. It is a fabulous city with so much history. I never tire of those beautiful old buildings. We lucked out and had great weather while in Edinburgh. One of the first dishes we tried was haggis, neeps & tatties with whisky gravy, and it was really good. We were a family of 7 adults, and I knew for sure that 2 of us were going to try it. Turned out everyone in our group had a taste, and they all liked it. So, you must try it next time your in Scotland. - Coreen

We stayed right across the street from grass market while we were in Edinburgh. It was rainy and cold the majority of the trip. This was mid July of this year. We went dressed for it. So it was no surprise. England, Wales and Ireland were just as rainy and cool. The highest temperature was up maybe 65 degrees. Everything was very green from all the rain and the flowers were beautiful. So we’ve been there done that and don’t want to go back.😊

As a Texan who likes a gray, cold, wet day, I do wonder how long it would take for me to get as tired of it as people seem to get. I'm not certain I would. I tend to like it a lot. Edinburgh is one of my favorite places, for sure. Last time I was there was July, and it was jackets and umbrellas about half the time, and 10 - 12 C. Also, I was helped by thinking of haggis as a looser, fresher sausage. Similar preparation. So good. Nice to see a bit more of the city. We stuck to the area around Princes St. mostly. Count me in - subscribed - this was fun.

Hey guys!! For once I am going to be able to give you guys some travel advice! Do yourselves a favor and buy some rain jackets. The wind is going to blow your umbrellas pretty badly. You will be ssssoooo much happier with some rain jackets and rain boots. Also, when you get to Inverness you have got to try The Mustard Seed Restaurant (best Mussels you will ever have) and the Haggis at Castle Tavern!!! Enjoy Scotland it's my favorite place in the world!!!

Who did you book the hop on/ hop off bus with? Going on a HAL cruise this spring and Edinburgh is one of the ports, it’ll be our first time in Scotland and I want to see as much of Edinburgh as possible. I don’t really care for HAL’s shore excursion options, thinking the bus might be better. Just curious!

There are many hop on buses located at Waverley train station, just pay at the bus.

One thing I cant get over is the amount of moaning American tourists do about the cold and the rain in Edinburgh. Its Scotland the majority of the year its cold and wet. Why come if you dont like it.

Why oh why have you not dressed for british weather. Surely you should have known about our weather and here you are in shirts and tee shirts.

We used to love your videos, but for the last few months,it seems like all we see is you eating.
It's not like we don't like to see different foods from different parts of the world ,but people and places should be the main focus ,surely .
Thank you for all your past videos, we have certainly enjoyed them, and this comment is in no way meant to criticize, but to give a constructive comment on your CZcams channel.
    Thank you,
    Denny.

I feel the same way. So many other things to do besides “find a pub”. And please turn the camera around so we can see the sights.

Oh, to meet the Americans who HAVEN'T made a video of Edinburgh. Expect to be wet if you don't dress for the weather. Why do these keep coming up in my CZcams feed in droves? I live here for God's sake.

This was frustrating to watch. Have you never experienced rain before? It seems a little preparation and grit would have gone a long way here.

If we weren’t trying to film we wouldn’t care! But expensive cameras and rain don’t get along. It’s hard to make travel vlogs in the rain…
