It’s mostly because of Blake. He wanted Melissa to only be romantic with him, and because of the Jake + Marley storyline, that wasn’t possible. So, he told the writers to give him a storyline with Marley. That’s why Jake was ruined in s5. That’s also why I don’t watch Glee after s5 e3. It’s stupid.

The newer kids (Marley, Kitty, Jake and more) had so much talent but they were never given a chance to get better story lines because Ryan was so attached to the original cast.
