ABBA is like a treasure that never runs out, a mountain of polished silver that has enriched the musical world since the 1970s. ♥
(And I promise that I'm not saying that just because I'm from Sweden like them!)
If I were to recommend a song by them, I honestly wouldn't know which one to pick. But I promise you that ABBA will continue to give you joy for a long, long time.
As you say, their harmonies are incredible - it's as if their voices were destined to meet. How fortunate we all are that they did meet. :)

ABBA was swedish, two couples that recording as a group only between 1972/1982
curiosly:
ABBA & Bee Gees was together in Concert for Unicef 1979
Bee Gees perforned "Too much heaven"
and ABBA presents... "Chiquitita"!
(all songs from this concert donated royalties to Unicef)
"Chiquitita" is an amazing ballad pop
lyrics of hope, great melodies, fantastic harmonies, a beautiful song!

"Dancing Queen" (with two female in leads vocals)
and "Happy New Year" (with the blonde Agnetha in lead voice, as "Chiquitita" now)

I am 40 yrs old now, but when I was younger, my parents had a 100 disk CD player, and my Dad had so many awesome CD's, but one that us kids loved was his ABBA Greatest Hits CD. I will always remember the times us five kids would play this CD, and when this Chiquitita song would come on, we would all get up and start dancing around the living room in circles acting goofy because we just loved the good vibes that this song, and ABBA songs in general, gave us. Our Dad's Mom, our Grandma, played the piano and organ, and she would play this song for us sometimes. Absolutely loved it and such good memories of ABBA growing up!
I have that very CD and listen to it at least twice per year. Even watching these reactors I get a little misty eyed. Takes me back in time when things didn't seem so polarized and hateful. A time when we were young and raising our young was the important task at hand. I can tell you where I was, who I was with, what we were doing and where we were going the first time I heard ABBA sing "SOS" on my car radio. Agnetha and Fridas' voices were just magical! I'm so glad they got back together for one last Hoorah!

"Chiquitita" is a beautiful song, it has hopeful lyrics, a melody that starts very soft with Agnetha's solo, then grows and explodes in a powerful chorus; Agnetha and Anni Frida's vocal harmonies are of excellence
"Chiquitita" was composed especially for the Concert by UNICEF, it premiered that night and its royalties are eternal for UNICEF
"Chiquitita" was ABBA's greatest success in Latin America, that prompted ABBA to record it in Spanish, and its success was so extraordinary that in the following years ABBA recorded an album with its best songs entirely in Spanish
and several things about ABBA
remember They was two couples:
Agnetha Fälkstog (1950, blonde with soprano voice) &
Björn Ulveaus (1945, guitar and songwriter)
Benny Andersson (1946, barderd pianist and songwriter) &
Anni Frid Lyngstad (1950, brunette with mezzo soprano voice)
And some of the intimacy
"Chiquitita" was recorded in December 1978, before Christmas;
days later the blonde singer Agnetha (28) and the guitarist Björn (33) was separated with two youngest childs
(but they continue together in the group four years more, until their last recording in 1982)
This promotional video was in February 1979 in Swizterland, their only promotional video that ABBA made without Sweden

ABBA was a huge hit for us Aussie kids back in the day (1970s).
There were kids to loved ABBA (myself included). There were kids who hated ABBA. And, there were kids who loved to hate those who loved ABBA!
The popularity of ABBA has withstood the test of time, even long after their break up, earning that well-deserved definition of Timeless!

Abba are from Sweden and had 19 top ten hits in UK (9 nr 1). And some of their best songs are b-sides and non single album tracks. Like Happy New Year was never a single I think.

Those guys are certainly there in each song since they mostly wrote those songs. Or at least composed most of the music in these songs. They were also married to the women in the group for a few years.
Chiquitita: Little one, young one, child, baby.
My mother would sing this to me when I was a small boy... and in turn I used to sing this to my daughter when she was upset, and still do sometimes even though she's now in her teens.
It's such a loving song, written from the heart with the full intent of giving strength and guidance to your child.
This song, to this day, still raises money for UNICEF.

This group is from Sweeden I think. I saw a video of them with Andy Gibb (youngest Bee Gee). In spanish chiquitita is very small girl. Pls Dont forget to do more BGs and keep that pretty smile!

Chiquitita means little girl so my guessing the songs about agnetha and Bjorns daughter Linda who at 6 years old was experiencing her parents break up . But it's only a rumour not officially the real story to the song.
