  • The Men's Wearhouse and Tuxedo Junction are the main options most guys will look to when needing to rent a tux or suit, but I make the case you should instead be looking at The Black Tux.

I am an assistant manager at a Men's Wearhouse who's been with the company for 3 years now. It pains me to see negative experiences like this and as much as I'm confident in MY ability to deliver great results regarding rentals, I just can't guarantee that same result with every location. "A bunch of minimum wage teenagers with an adult in charge" can be very accurate sometimes. I just got back from a meeting of store managers and there was a 17 year old AM2 (assistant manager 2). I'd say across the board, Men's Wearhouse is a hit or miss. I've never personally rented or seen rentals from The Black Tux, but I'm glad there's another option just in case.
On the topic of the items you received-
    - Those shoes are the ugly old man shoes that I never recommend. Not sure if you chose the styles or you were part of a party with predetermined styles, but there are more modern options for sure.
    - Even the fitted shirts are baggy and have that ugly gap in the cuff unfortunately. Some people mind it, some don't.
I decided to comment using my old account because all the videos on my main account have my face and name plastered on it haha. I'd rather not run the risk of losing my job over trying to help people better understand the market. Hopefully I did just that!

Thanks for the detailed video man! I had the exact same experience with the Mens Warehouse last year at my brother's wedding which I was a groomsman for. The suits were baggy (even for the bump in price to get the slim fit) and outdated. I just registered at The Blk Tux and it seems a lot more convenient and modern as far as the process and suits, the prices were definitely a lot better. My weddings in October (yeah I'm doing this really early) but it's a destination wedding so I want to be on top of it. Hoping for the best. Thanks again!

I've been at men's wearhouse for 5 months now and I was in rentals for 4 of those months (I am now on sales) and I can say that even though I am 18 myself it is all highschool students supervised by an adult and the rental services could use some work.

As someone who JUST got engaged on Friday this was more than needed. Little did i know she had been planning since she was like 1 years old (we have our first venue tour next saturday). But this helps because ive had equally horrible experiences with Mens Warehouse and other brick and mortar stores. I think we will be looking into The Back Tux because of this insight. Thanks again!

    what about buying a tux?
it seems much cheaper to me than spending 200$ every time you need a tuxedo, not to mention that you can actually get tuxs with a decent fit, unlike rented tuxedos.

    • @The_Kavalier
      @The_Kavalier  Před 7 lety +11

I have thought about that several times as well, issue becomes when doing it to participate in a wedding there's usually a standard look or style that all Groomsmen have and you wouldn't match. Unless you need a Tuxedo for regular events and formal affairs it might not be that straightforward.

Just so you are aware you can also rent tuxes through men’s wearhouse online and have everything sent directly to your house well in advance and you also get free pressing and alterations with your rental....seems like the companies are very similar but Men’s wearhouse has more to offer

Excellent review thanks, I went with my brother in law to get fitted and I noticed how unprofessional Men’s warehouse staff are. I’m here because I didn’t feel comfortable I don’t think he will get a great suit that fits well from them and we will run into a problem so I looking for alternative. So thank again for your insightful review.

  • @adammonzo3263

I don’t understand why you are comparing rentals, rentals are meant for 1 day, if you are particular about your fit you should buy! Besides when you rent you can only alter sleeves and length of pants, I’ve rented through Men’s Wearhouse like 15 times and have never had a problem. Funny thing is I’ve rented from black tux and the only place that I could think of to get measured at was Men’s Wearhouse.

I had similar problems with MW, I’m a 40R 15.5 34-35. They put me in a massive 42R jacket, mc hammer pants and hideous shoes. I’m a size 12 shoe, it looked like shiny clown shoes. The only reason I had to get a tux there was because they bribe grooms with gift cards lol

As a employee for Men’s Wearhouse for 6 years I just wanted to say this was pretty dead on. The teenager comment made me laugh pretty hard.
I wish our process was more consistent between each store. Side note to anyone renting from MW, wear your own shirt or buy one of the slimmer ones we offer.
Also I’m curious which tux you had from us? Price points makes me think its our Vera wang.
    Keep up the great videos.

SSjGOTEN12 dude I was just thinking the same thing (I work at mens wearhouse as well) we have a nice Calvin Klien for $204 that’s for rent. Also you gotta remind them its a RENTAL, it’s meant for general sizing so it’s bound not to be perfect. You want a suit with alterations just how you want them, buy a suit or custom (specially with how many suits this guy has rented). I know a lot of our stores don’t have the best costumer service because they’re busy a lot of the time ( except for mine since it’s a really slow store so our customer reviews are pretty good). However if you want something that looks really nice you should just buy rather than rent. Specially since no matter what if you’re going to buy, the seller will most likely give you some sort of discount one way or another.

Sort of my nightmare experience with Men's Wearhouse as a groom. Used it as a groomsmen before as well as buying suits that were tailored with actually pretty decent experiences.
    1. Kid spent forever taking down all info first (why? I haven't committed to renting. Should have stopped him there)
    2. Nervously showed me colors. No styles, no pricing, no combo's, nothing that was shown on the website
    3. Started fitting me (why? I haven't even tried anything on...)
    4. "We don't have slim fits". Yes you do, your website shows you do. Not for all styles though
    5. Gets all the color schemes wrong for groom and groomsmen, doesn't know what they have to offer except for "blue, gray, tan, or black"
    6. Wants deposit. I'm like, "for what? I don't even know what you wrote down for half an hour". You don't even know my size as the fitting wasn't right
    7. "We can't hold your info without a deposit". Okay cool, if I want to do this again, I'll give someone else my info
    8. I get an email with all my info on their website. Lovely. Doing the Black Tux instead. I tried giving the kid a break and being polite, I am not a jerk whatsoever, but it was agonizing being there.

I just want to point out that everything that you have a complaint about with men’s wearhouse is an EASY FIX! those shoes you have an issue with from men’s wearhouse are they shoes that the groom picked out for you to wear so blame him not the company. Also there is a slimmer version of both the shirt and the pants that you can get. The shorter coat length is also fixed by going with a regular instead of a long (or short instead of a regular)
I have so many issues with this video that I can’t even list them all.

    • @Setacyde
      @Setacyde Před 5 lety

You must not have been listening carefully. It's not an easy fix when you have to constantly go back to the store every time there's an issue. I've had to use MW numerous times as a groomsman and have only once had a tux that I was happy with. I'm definitely not making the same mistake for my own wedding.

Mens warehouse sucks. I worked there for a month and a half and majority of the people i worked with were just focused on the sale and didnt care how the stuff fits. This doesnt represent every store but thats my first hand experience. The suits are also terrible quality and i just recommend no one buy suits (unless they are custom but even then buy suit supply) or rent from mens warehouse.

NEVER, NEVER, go to the Men's Warehouse! I went in for a suit that I needed for an important job interview. All I needed was a single suit. I walked out with the suit, expensive shoes that did not fit, a sport coat and slacks, a winter coat and a neck tie that I could not use. All they cared about was up-selling me. They did not care about my needs or future business. I NEVER went back there!

Sounds like it wasn’t Men’s wearhouse’s fault at all. If you tried it on and agreed to purchase something ill fitting and more then you originally planned you can’t blame anyone but yourself. All the men in my family shop with men’s wearhouse so I know for a fact that they make you try on things before you buy them and ask you how you feel about it.

Please please, Both places are not where you want to be. Poor quality, horrible fit and you're overpaying. When you want the best, go to a place that stocks and house all their tuxedo's in stock. A place that you can feel it and try it on. Independent family owned and operated shop that specializes in a slim fit and classy tuxedo's. On line, you have to be kidding.
