    If you are more married to a slogan than outcomes then you are not a true progressive! Keep the substance, and call it something different. #simple

    So, where’s this resistance when we are “defunding” schools, libraries, ect?

    • @tubafats100
      @tubafats100 Před 3 lety +1

      When we defunded schools and libraries , we were actually defunding schools and libraries . A bunch of schools closed and a bunch of libraries closed. They didn’t mean to reallocate school funds, they meant to DEFUND schools and that’s what they did. The pushback is more about the slogan than the actual policy.

    • @SuiteVII

      @@tubafats100 Its so crazy how people are more concerned about our verbiage than the actual issue. As if the right tone can bring about justice.

    • @tubafats100
      @tubafats100 Před 3 lety

      @@SuiteVII I believe that the slogan should be as strong and precise as the issue. Usually when the government says they are going to defund something it means whatever they defunded is now gone. Basically in governmental languages “defund the police” means “let’s not fund the police force”. If that’s not what we’re asking for then we need to change the slogan.

    • @SuiteVII
      @SuiteVII Před 3 lety

      @@tubafats100 And, I believe little, nit-picky arguments over semantics is merely a plot to siphon away our energies away from the true origin of our discontent. Ultimately, there is no slogan succinct enough to get MOST White Americans onboard with equality.

    He's right. Change the slogan. They're battling about a slogan that alienates that won't get them what they want. And why are they blaming him when it's knowledge that the Senate and some of Congress spent six years blocking him. Blame yourselves for not being as proactive about voting in other elections which would've given him support and backup.

    Idk why y’all won’t let President Obama retire and write his books in peace. While he was in office the next generation started this movement and this year it finally has a legitimate stance with demands (nationally). He was never progressive, we are not a monolith and he is not our savior. It’s time for us to focus on who is currently about to take office and move forward. We never did this to any other president, leave him be.

But to ask a retired president about where he stands when he really should be focused on his 3rd act is doing too much. Ask Biden and Kamala if you are going to ask anyone. That’s all I’m saying.

    That’s probably why people are offended because they didn’t understand the expression.
    Pithy means “concise” or @forcefully expressive.”
    Therefore he is saying slogan Defund the Police is too forcefully concise and open to misinterpretation.

It says in the article the hollywood african american celebrities use it and it doesnt even make them look black anymore but really light skinned,although they deny it matsuiskinlightening.com/products/bleaching-skin-lightening-orange-peeling-lotion-100-ml-top-selling-product i guess the reason they deny using this lotion is probably they want people to think they are naturally light skinned,people should just be honest.

    And don’t go mentally while President Obama was in office we lost these names: and a list of names. Sweetie in the yellow, Plus a lot of people throughout the history of the United States. I am 50 years old and I need all of my fingers and toes and I still want out of room to name all the people there were lost. You’re young people, you millennials and generation Z fail to understand that we have lost a lot of people and just because there wasn’t any social media around and there were no hashtags to add to their name does not mean their lives don’t count too. Can’t say you tried it his way, because President Obama did not do anything in the way of police reform his way. Need a bill that President Obama put in place for police reform… I wait. What do you millennials and generation Z also don’t understand, because you’re coming into this world where a lot of things are already put in place; is that you always need a farce when it comes to being black to break the barrier so that someone else black and come in and do the work.

    What President Obama said made no sense because you did not SAY WHAT HE SAID.
    Obama's ACTUAL QUOTE From Daily Show Interview:
    22:15
    "If we in fact want to translate, the very legitimate belief, that how we do policing; needs to change. And if there is, for example, a homeless guy ranting and railing in the middle of the street, sending a mental health worker, rather than an ARMED, UNTRAINED police officer to deal with that person might be a better outcome for all of us, and make us safer.
    If we describe that to… not just white folks, but let’s say Michelle’s Mom. That makes sense to them. But if we say, “Defund the Police.” Not just white folks, but Michelle’s Mom might say, “If I’m getting robbed, who am I going to call, and is someone going to show up??
    So the issue here becomes, at any given time, how are we translating and using language? Not to make people “more comfortable.” Because that’s always a strain historically, the concern is often, “Oh are we just trying to make white people comfortable, rather than speaking truth to power.” That’s the framework we tend to think about these things.
    The issue to me is not making them comfortable. It is... can we be precise with our language enough, that people that might be persuaded, around that particular issue, to make a particular change, that gets a particular result that we want. What’s the best way for us to describe that??"
