Here's a quick mixbus compressor shootout between a very nice analog compressor (Focusrite Red 3), and a plugin emulation that comes free in Logic Pro X. The song is quick demo I came up with. Master chain is the same for both versions aside from the compressor and I made sure to have the same resulting Peak/RMS loudness between versions.

Same here. It's hard to tell the difference because the entire video itself is also automatically compressed by CZcams plus most of us are listening with headphones which emphasize certain frequencies

Plugins have come a very long way especially now with a lot of free plugins being available
I prefer compressor 1 if have enough money to buy.Analog is always best.
I certainly can hear the difference, compressor 1 has more colour and actuation to it. But certainly nor 2500$ worth of difference there :)

When you first listen to this song it sounds so polyphia, but man, than you turn the polyphia's songs and realize that polyphia is just too boring to listen after this little quick demo. Polyphia is just all about flex, but THIS SONG just epically BITES THE ASSS

Im sure it was luck and overconfidence, I could tell that 1 was the actual compressor from the highs on the 2nd and 3rd riff. However, that shouldnt be a 2500 dollar difference, they're so close I would say it they both fit the same job with next to no difference. Plugins have gotten pretty nuts recently.

I guessed wrong lol rip. The hardware had a slightly more focused sound and a bit more in the high end, but less low end. The plugin had a slighty wider stereo width in the headphones and a bit more fullness in the low end.
1st has smoother high end
Nr 2 seemed a bit muffled, but it's really hard to tell. It's pointless anyway to try, listening to a YT video through crappy PC loudspeakers or headphones. YT compresses audio too, and transforms it to mono.
I mix some sick hi-fi ready tracks on my phone speakers
if we use the insert method, do we give wet and dry 0%

Is compressor 1 louder? Or is that just part of the perceived difference in the compressors?
I used loudness meters to make sure they were technically the same volume, but I do think there is a bit more perceived loudness with the analog comp

Pro compressor had sweeter highs.
The only compression I really hear is the one from CZcams. And my headphones are pretty solid IEMs :S
1 is more punchy and i like the sound more, but you could probably dial that in with 2. The plugin is far more cost effective, so the plugin wins in my book.

I was hoping you wouldn't tell us which was which, the difference was SO minor. something in the low end of comp one was a little fuller to my ears, but it was really hard to tell.
listening on genelec 8040b set through an RME interface in case it matters.
theo goslett yea I think the analog comp rounds off the transients a tad nicer and keeps the guitar lead a bit more clear, but it’s such a subtle difference

I have a request, can you tell how to stop the ring finger movement while playing legato with middle and pinky.

syndicate ima I wouldn’t worry about it. I was told there is a connection between the ring fingers and pinky due to connective tissue or something to that effect. If you watch my 10 shred licks video, you’ll see my pinky is spazzing out when using my ring finger. Doesn’t affect the sound you get out of the guitar though, and that’s what matters imo.

@@clinttustin It's my understanding that many, but not all, people have a muscle that's shared by both fingers. So they tend to move togethe, and other muscles have to compensate if pne of them has to stay still..
