The telethon is a tradition. I was up all night as a kid all through the 70's. I've seen the telethon live about 20 times since 1984. I even got to see Sammy. I;m afraid they will get less money, and that is very sad. I'll be in line again this year (early) and hope all goes well.
I love Sammy and no disrespect but I sometimes laugh when I think of Billy Crystal's impression of Sammy. Sammy was Mr. Cool, he dripped and oozed with it. Gong Sheeky Gong!

I agree as to the singing etc but as far as a better dancer than Fred or Gene i don't think many would agree with you. Sammy would have to the world's best ever all-round entertainer.
@voiceofelijah2012 The telethon has been shortened to 6 hours and will be broadcast on the day before Labor Day. MDA has hinted Jerry Lewis' participation isn't neccessary. Sad.
When I was a kid watching the Jerry Lewis telethon was an annual ritual where we always tried to see if we could endure being awake the entire 24 hours ourselves.
@JoeWellington If Lewis is not apart of this telethon, they just killed it and honestly, Jerry should publicly announce his ending and go out in style. This is bad business.
I was very disheartened to learn that the telethon will be cut to only 6 hours. Even more disturbing was the fact that the press release on the MDA website had no comment from Jerry Lewis. In fact the press release didn't even mention him at all!

I love sammy and I miss every year on the telathon. They had great fun and really cared for each other. I wish we still had talant like that today.
