Unknown to the airline, moisture had seeped into the structure of one of the airplane’s wings, and had begun to weaken the glue that held the wing spars together.

The plane slowed and crashed just before final approach at Tri-Cities Regional Airport in a field off of Interstate 81 near Blountville. Manfred Albrecht Freiherr von Richthofen, known in English as Baron von Richthofen or the Red Baron, was a fighter pilot with the German Air Force during World War I. He is considered the ace-of-aces of the war, being officially credited with 80 air combat victories. Richthofen was shot down and killed near Vaux-sur-Somme on 21 April 1918. There has been considerable discussion and debate regarding aspects of his career, especially the circumstances of his death. He remains one of the most widely known fighter pilots of all time, and has been the subject of many books, films, and other media.

Richthofen was not killed because of a crash--he was killed by anti-aircraft fire from one of several Australian anti-aircraft gunners on the ground. Additionally, despite being credited with Richthofen's death, Canadian pilot Roy Brown did not fire the round that killed Richtofen. Brown killing Richtofen was impossible given the position of the two two aircraft when Brown fired, in relation to Richthofen's fatal wound.

They should differentiate between FLYING your own plane, and FLYING ON a plane, private or public. JOHN DENVER was a pilot, and was flying an experimental small plane when the gas tank empty of 2 thing happened. Sad to say, but flying small planes is just inherently more hazardous. In part since they take off at more times that are iffy, and have less room for error with small engines and such.

He ran out of gas over Monterey bay at 500ft
He pulled the nose up which turned his plane into a rock and fell into the ocean
Suppose to point nose down 3 degrees to maintain air speed like Sully did in the movie.
It’s a natural reaction to pull the nose up.

@@lindaf4836 John Denver should have still been alive if he had obeyed the law. He had received a couple of DUI's, and his medical certificate was denied in 1996, resulting in his pilot's license being suspended. Two days after Denver died, National Transportation Safety Board spokesman Matt Furman revealed that the musician's flying license was suspended, so he was not supposed to fly. As he was flying over Monterey Bay, California, one tank either ran dry or caused an engine failure due to fuel contamination. As Denver reached around to switch tanks, he inadvertently exceeded the recommended maximum bank angle, and put himself into a low-altitude stall/spin, crashing into the bay and killing himself on impact.

I know an old guy who was supposed to be on Patsy Cline's plane. She sent him home instead, to see his wife and kids. They had been on the road a while... He was also a friend of Jim Reeves, and J.P. Richardson, the "Big Bopper". He dropped out of the music biz, (got Loretta Lynn on TV first though, he had a TV show back then in the DC area) becasue he would not fly to gigs anymore. To this day is still a member of the Grand Old Opry. He and a guy I knew only as Mr Gray would play guitar and fiddle (Mr Gray could play!) while working the late shift as guards at the GEICO facility in Macon, Ga. His name is Jimmy Haney. Great video about him from PBS in youtube. And note I am from Macon, Ga and know the Redding family. Major omission sir.

I had a couple of close calls in commercial planes, that could have been disastrous had the problems not been caught before takeoff. In one case, it would have taken so long to fix the problem that I would have missed my connection, so they took me off of that plane with my carry-on bag and booked me on another to the same destination. I had to call my brother, who was going to pick me up at the airport on arrival, to tell him of the new flight number.
There was another such incident with the onboard computer, which they caught and fixed on another plane I was on, before it lifted off.
      Most fortunate, I would say.
I don't like to fly, anymore. The last time I flew it was so chaotic in the airport that I got really nervous to the point where they suspected me going through security and searched my bag. Found nothing, and I was allowed to board. But I was very nervous that day, due to an issue with my boarding pass.
      Flying isn't fun, anymore.
