Great video today Jarrod! When will you review the Lenovo Legion 9i?
When will you review the lenovo slim 7 amd
Hey, Jarrod. Good review as always. Since you issued a correction for this insignificant mistake in your pinned comment, you're probably gonna be interested in knowing there's a mistake in the title of the BIOS chapter of the video ("BIOS - So Much Customization") and correcting that. Cheers.
Hey Jarrod I literally cannot believe your review came out today! I unboxed this laptop 2 days ago and I'm absolutely loving it. I just plug it into my external monitor and it's a dream come true
I have been waiting for YOUR test of A15 for a long time... But finally I ordered it Yesterday! Though it is on Ryzen 7 7735HS and RTX 4060 (available on my regional market). So I have dilemma what to do first: watch your test or take my A15 from the shop😀
0:07 Jarrod was so exited he couldn’t even complete the dialogue 😂
0:06 Yeah, let's get straight into the review!
Your channel is a reflection of your hard work and talent, thank you for sharing it with us.
Just purchased 4 days ago. Asus TUF A15 R7 RTX 4050 16GB/1TB for $974. It's an upgrade for my 11 years old Samsung laptop, haven't play any heavy games yet because I was too busy for editing videos most of the time, I can say I didn't regrets with the purchase.
I’m thinking of buying this exact laptop too. I was wondering if you have a review of it now after a few days?
@@louis3624 everything is ok Bro, playing FPS or Racing Game on high settings also no problem. Still satisfied with it. But if your country has A16 then you better buy that one since it's better than A15
Thank you man, I was thinking of buying the same laptop too. Now I can proceed safely with my decision
@@josegodoy3613 good luck Bro. Make sure you check around the local websites and get the best price
Wtf! Bro $970 USD? You haved this high end fucking machine?? Ryzen 7 rtx 4050 damn I wish I can buy mine at the same price, in my country the price is above $1700 wtf!
Thanks for the review end up getting this for the 6h battery life doing light work. Was gonna get the neo helios 16 with 2k screen but 2h battery life and liquid metal is just a nono for me. Grateful for in depth reviewers like you who did comparison not just for gaming but general use as well.
Got this laptop 1 week ago. I was choosing between so many of them and ended up with this one as the best in terms of price/quality in my area (fa507xi). Not to mention that this is my very first gaming laptop with relevant hardware. I was playing games on youtube for 10+ years. This is a great machine. I'm playing my favorite games without even bothering myself to check video settings. Temperatures don't go up to extreme numbers. Everything is working perfectly smooth. There are only 2 slight minuses: 1. Display could be brighter 2. Latest nvidia driver was causing micro stuttering every 2 sec after several hours of gameplay (recommended driver from official website solved the problem)
My grade is 9.5/10
I got one in August and upgraded ram to 32Gb and added a WD Black 4TB M2, its a fantastic bit of kit, especially for the money! BTW my panel/screen is absolutely brilliant, I've had no issues with it.
You play apex legends valorant and cs go 2 ? How many fps u got???? Thx for gelp
@@Kolba_Team CS2 - 200-300 fps max settings
Not sure about Apex, didn't see the numbers but the game plays smoothly on max settings.
How is your gaming experience with CS2?
@@naveenperera1862 it works perfect 👍 i'm playing CS for more than 20 years and I have high fps expectancies
Another Tuf A15 vs Legion Slim 5 comparison may come in handy for consumers. Hoping you will do it again this year
Yes this is a good idea!
Jarrod, the abrupt cut in the intro made me laugh! HAHAHAHA I love your humor! Great video!
You really went straight into it with that intro edit!
wow did not expected that you will make this video, im interested in that model!
Nice that they left 1 ram slot empty, makes it much cheaper to upgrade. Especially important for budget laptops
I still have my tuf fx505du with a gtx 1660ti from 2020 and it still works great I use it as a desktop replacement and for 850 dollars it was the best buy I ever made
I know it isn't really the way to benchmark, but I'd love to see performance and battery life results with the community made replacement for Armoury Crate- G-Helper.
As we all know, Armoury Crate is a resource hog. In my case, when I switched to G-Helper my CPU temps dropped from 65C idle to ~49C. My battery life also was slightly better though Intel CPUs still lose to AMD in that regard.
0:37 you got me there, gotta admit.
Love this laptop, it's my first one ever and you're part of the reason why I was able to choose it, so, thanks!
Awesome video jarrod. How can you tell which of the ports directly connect to the discrete GPU and iGPU ! Thanks ✌🏼
Just bought this exact laptop with the 165hz QHD display from best buy for the black Friday sale (1899.99 can). Paired with the three year warranty and a 4tb ssd this thing is honestly perfect for me.
I’m planning on getting the same laptop, can you tell me how’s the display quality? And how’s the battery life on normal workload?
Display is excellent and the colours are gorgeous. I can't speak on the battery life though. This unit is always plugged in. Ill do some experimenting and let you know ASAP.@@Itzanmol_16
This is why Jarrod is the GOAT. We are kind of closing in on the year, you have pretty much reviewed nearly every single laptop worth reviewing imo (Asus zephyrus g16 maybe not done) . Can't wait for some end of the year comparisons like last year.
Rog flow X16(2023) review is desperately needed!
He hasn't reviewed the Legion 9, he needs to
@@jonathantheyorkieHe might not get it, which would be very unfortunate of Lenovo to do, because it looks to be quite good, apart from the keyboard deck and battery life.
Also the G16 isn't worth it compared to last year's M16.
@@jonathantheyorkieI think the legion 9 is a product that's purely for looks and show rather than perform. Yeah it can run very well, but you can get an equivalent spec legion 7 with better battery and upgradability score for 1500-2000 USD less. It's bigger and heavier, but not by that much
let's go! this has been my request from you for a while. thanks Jarrod!
How are you, my friend? Please do you advise me to buy this laptop and where to get it? Thank you if you answer me.
Yoooo was waiting for this one since 4 months
Thank you very much for this video
I purchased the RTX 4070 Ryzen 9 7940hs FA507xi iteration of this laptop in August for £1,299 (on offer in Curry's UK). At the exact time of purchase I upgraded to 32GB DDR5-4800 RAM (£74) as well as an additional 4TB NVMe (WD Black 7200MB Gen4) that was on sale for £239. Initially I got it to edit but wow! What I brilliant gaming rig it is - I managed to play the entire campaign of Max Payne 3, at max settings 60fps at 8K on my QN700B (also tried 4k 120fps max settings AA x4 on my LG C2 42 inch without issue). Also, Rainbow Siege runs at 240fps avg at 4K but I'm fairly sure there's scaling going on because I clicked auto detect, everything is ultra and AA is x2 with no DLSS so I'm gonna assume it's at 50% scaling or less but it looks great. Wolfenstein Young blood runs 60fps ultra settings with Ray tracing at 8k using DLSS. I've not really played much else but I can tell you it's a very very competent editing rig. My daily is a 3970x, 3090 & 256GB ram and the laptop is actually smoother at scrubbing on occasion.
BTW the channel I'm commenting from is not my work channel. I'm a professional editor who never needed to use/own a personal laptop until I ended up in hospital for a couple of months - couldn't bring the work into hospital without a lappy.
Anyway I know you're giggling at my gaming choice. I'm a boomer-shooter but 2077, Alan Wake 2, HLL etc probably all run beyond what the display can muster which is actually very good considering the price. The accuracy and brightness certainly outgunned anything else for the same money.
FYI the company laptop is the Asus ROG Zephyrus duo 16 gx650py = £4,500 Ryzen 9 16c/32t, RTX 4090, 64GB RAM, 1100nits 240hz dual screen awesome bit-o-kit but I'm telling you now that that rig isn't 4x as able, far from it. It's barely twice as able but it is practical, if money is no object or if making money via digital productivity is your game. In fact when scrubbing or playing back footage there's no noticeable difference. Although I'm sure there would be pending complexity, bit rate, keying, luts, length etc of scene. However I cut a rough scene that consisted of 6x layers deep from 6x action cameras at 4k each at half rez no proxies on the timeline that was nearly 10 minutes in length with no issues.
The only thing I noticed under immense stress was that the CPU gets hotter than the GPU which never went above 73°c for me.
Thanks for the video. Keep up the great work!
PS both my ram slots were occupied, unfortunately. This meant I had to buy a 32gb so-dimm kit and am stuck with 16Gb DDR5 which no one will need or want as thats effectively the base amount to start with. I was going to go off-spec and populate with 64GB 5200mhz, which should work but I didn't want to risk the hassle of returning the ram if it didn't work. Plus for the scenes I'd be editing on the lappy 64GB would have been unnecessary but I'm the kinda person that prefers to have it and not need it than need it and not have it. Also, my panel is also 1080p 144hz and seems very good in comparison to your unit but panels can be like silicon. I'd not master colours for serious work using the panel but I would in a pinch (I'd use anything in a pinch if I absolutely had to produce something).
Compared to others it is a seriously good buy and great value for money.
Would you recommend this Laptop for both uses of Work and gaming. Is it capable of running programming applications ?
Thank you
@@botz-kalma without a doubt. It's a great arounder. Nothing else will come close for the money. Do bear in mind that I upgraded the ram and introduced another M.2 drive. It is a very good, effective peace of kit and will run every game stock.
Been waiting for this review forever! I was hoping to get the 4050 version but it seems it isnt really worth its price.
Variances in 1% lows could be the result of driver optimizations since you've tested this laptop with one of the most recent versions while your other data is based on older sets.
Maybe, but I mean, Nvidia isn't exactly pushing out updates for Control anymore. Plus we test a fairly old version of Cyberpunk.
@@JarrodsTechhey man I've been looking at your videos honestly they're helping me make up my mind a lot. I want to know if tuf f15 i7 12700 & rtx 4070 would give me similar performance as this? I want to know if 4070 is worth the upgrade on 4050 . Rtx 4060 option is also available but performance is the first priority here so in terms of this laptop which one should I go for?
Hey Jarrod can you make a video on the msi bravo 17 ckvf 2023?
Screens add so much to the experience, sad that it's the first victim of price reduction.
You have good music taste. :d
Love and blessings!
Great review! I really do understand the importance of acknowledging the difference between 4070 and 4080 coz it's indeed massive. But unfortunately for me, the price difference between them is about a 800-1.000€, which is absolutely crazy and I would rather just chill with DLSS than pay a thousand more ._. (tuf a15 with same specs costs around 1.450€ and 4080 laptops begin at +-2.400€ price tag im Germany)
You should be able to pick up the msi vector with a 4080 for around 2000 but it's got a pretty crappy screen.
Laptop 4080 was for 1800 euros yesterday ok mediamarkt in Spain, for 50 euros more(maybe not 50,usually around that) they send internationally
And would probably be lower ok black friday

Hi thank you a lot for your great review, would you recommend this 2023 version with rtx 4060 or the 2024 with rtx4060 one ?
I am the proud owner of an FA507XI (Ryzen 9 7940hs/rtx4070) and I really love it. I use it for work, study and gaming. I use DCS World in a 23 inch monitor (soon to be upgraded) and handles it very well at 1080p. Will come back as soon as my new monitor arrives to post my results.
Nice!
@JarrodsTech, can you look for some details about an upcoming ASUS ROG Strix Scar 16 based on Intel Core i9-14900HX? What changes should we expected? What about MSI Raider / GT versions based on this CPU?
What is your opinion of the short arrow keys, do you find it annoying or is is something you get used to very quick.
Incredible video as always Jarrod! I recently purchased this laptop and for some reason my idle CPU temps on Performance mode are at around 70 degrees Celsius. The fans are off, but should the temperature go so high up? Please respond if you have the time!

Finally!! Thanks Jarrod
Bro I just bought one for my birthday last year and I love playing my third party and indie titles on this thing
I know it's a very late comment, but felt I needed to make it.
For screen options, at 10:54 Jarrod says that (in the US) it's available with either a 1440p/165Hz, or, 1080p/165Hz, both with 3ms response time, while in Australia there's only a lower quality 1080p/144Hz option with no specified response time. (3 mentioned options in total).
That's not, however, what's shown on screen and he says some false information.
There's no 1080p/165Hz option anywhere. 165Hz is only available with the 1440p option and he says that both options in the US have 3ms response time, but the only one with such feature is the 1440p one.
In fact, the 1080p screen option in the US seems to be the exact same in Australia Jarrod complains about.
So, briefly, there's really just 2 options:
-The basic 1080p/144Hz/18ms(ish)
that everyone has.
-A 1440p/165Hz/3ms
that, at least, the Australian market didn't get.
That aside, I loved the review!
Please do a review on the msi pulse 15
i bought it three years ago, It's an amazing laptop that served me well for three years until something in the motherboard burned suddenly 😕 week ago
Great review Jarrod! But can you compare it to MSI katana 15 bvgk 1417id? It has same SPECS with Asus a15 with a slight better SPECS & better price, Will ya?
Was able to find a refurbished one for $580. Used what i had extra to upgrade the ram and add a new ssd. All toghether it was mabe 700$ wich is still cheaper than buying it new so i cant complain. As "low end" as it is it still blows my old integrated graphics vivo book filp 14 out of the water.
Hello can you please do a review on about the msi pulse 17 b13vgk with the i9-13900h and rtx4070?
10:30
It would be awesome if the loudness comparison charts where presented as well, like the other performace charts comparing different / similar laptops.
I get that fan loudness is a bit of a moot point for gaming laptops, but like situations where performance has to be sacrificed for cheaper, I'd be more happy to sacrifice performance for a bit quieter xD
You can see all fan noise results for laptops I've reviewed here: jarrods.tech/laptop-fan-noise/
@@JarrodsTech that's fantastic, thank you!!!
Finally early in one of your videos!
I have bought this laptop for $700 with ryzen 7 and rtx 3060. It is a beast for perfomance and my all heavy tasks. Battery was the problem until I got driver updates. But still carry the charger bcz it's 48wh battery lasts 4 hours
0:05 "you didt have to cut me off"
I bought this tuf (4070 and ryzen 7940hs) a month ago and ended back at the store to change it for an Omen 16 with a better ssd and a step down screen to fhd 165hz.
The guys in the store helped me test 3 of this laptops in total, but all of them had the ssd overheating and randomly freezeing doing nothing but playing overwatch (quite light gaming imo)
That's concerning. Hopefully it's just the SSD they supply is bad, but it could indicate poorly designed motherboard cooling. Did it not improve if you changed the SSD yourself?
@@miscwork-qb7pd it mightve solved the issue. Being in México it was kinda pricey, so we made the point of it not being a cheap product and they issued a change after some discussion with floor manager and the "geel squad" of said store. The issue presented itself not even 8 hours of the laptop being used.. discord freezed, chrome lagged, ow and warframr also lagged. Even a random test with crystal disk overheated the ssd and made the entire system feel sluggish
@@EdyHPdouble Yeah significant cooling issues you'll notice right away. It's strange it happened on multiple laptops, was it on a very warm day you tested? Anyway glad you have something equivalent to use now
I purchased Asus TUF A15 FA507XI last week. The main reason why i choose this over Zephyrus G14 was because the upgradability. I added WD Black SN850X 4TB and upgrade the ram with DDR5 64GB 5600 MHz. I use this laptop for work (70%) and gaming (30%).

Is it good for streaming in ps5 cuz soon im getting a razer ripsaw hd and idk what laptop to get for? Im willing to buy it if it's good
Got this model a year and a half ago or so.
Before I get flamed, I didn't grow up with a lot of games, so it had a lot of influence on me.
Roblox is the main game I play, but I don't know why, it never happened with my previous laptop (old, far worse, not a gaming laptop), but roblox would randomly freeze, and it does it semi-often. It isn't my internet connection, because it hasn't changed at all. That's about the only complaint I can recall having, other than that, it's great for my first ever gaming laptop.
Although, when I tried getting it, the place I was buying from kept delaying it and delaying it, eventually the black friday sale expiring from $1300 returning to $1500, which sucked.
i had the Ryzen 9 7940HS x 4060 variant. So basically what was the best setup for it during gaming and normal use ? and how do i know if i have activated the advanced optimus ? because i saw a asus post yesterday forgot which page, it shows to activate, i have to be in standard gpu mode in armoury crate, while in nvidia choose auto select. is that true ?

I have the Asus Tuf A15 from last year model i bought it this year and it has 3060 and im happy whit it if i didnt saw youre videos i would probably buy the legnovo legion 5 or the helios which was 800$ more and the lenovo was 200$
i actually have this laptop and found it very easy to change the color of the rgb keyboard, and personally have it set to white. also i got it with a r7 7735hs and rtx 4050
Hi Tommy! How do you like the laptop so far?? I am sooooooo close to buying it!
@@simonelunde3524 honestly pretty good, but I would recommend getting a cooling pad for it.
Imao, was that quick cut at the start intentional? 😂
Hey Jarrod love your laptop/tech reviews would you be able to review the Acer Predator Triton 17x (2023) laptop please it is a 17 inch laptop and has a intel i9-13900hx RTX 4090 GPU and a 250hz Mini LED screen option and there are no in depth reviews of it as of yet would love to see it on the channel!
I was hoping to get a lot more Acer this year, but it didn't pan out. Unfortunately, I probably won't be covering any more for 2023.
I like this small, light laptops. Not laptops with big butts and if you fit 16:10 screen it will have the best screen/size ration.
I have 4070 with ryzen 7 7940hs, how much benefits it will give me if I would upgrade ram from 16gb to 64gb for gaming performance? I only play cs go at 1080p. Thank you for your advice. In general I am very happy of the laptop.
i got the 4060 version and honestly, it's excellent
Can you review that gateway laptop with the 11400h and rtx 3050
Bro litrally got into the review without wasting time 😂
You can change the keyboard to some colors from software i just figured out that later to it hard to understand
Hi Jarrod, I have the same version as yours but I have the panel OD option in armory crate, you might be missing some drivers.
Are you sure?! Mine does not have it either
I bought it 4 days ago. Its a great laptop
The best reviewer, Jarrod's tech
Can you do the g16 review
Looking forward to best laptops of 2023 video.
I’m torn between this unit and Lenovo Legion Slim 5, which is better for all around gaming / editing?
Its possible to use UGreen usb c 145w power bank and game on the go ?
Can you do the review of lenovo ideapad gaming 3i with ryzen 5 6600h and rtx 3050.
someone who has this laptop is it worth it for the regular user because I'm planing to buy but I don't know?
Anything with AMD Pheonix Range is gold!
This is interesting timing seeing as I’m looking at the TUF A16. Comments, which one is better?
Great review. Wish you had the RTX 4050 since this is a budget laptop. Looks like the Acer Nitro 16 is the way to go this year for the best bang for buck. Just wish it was thinner and lighter.
Agree Nitro V16 or V15 still the way to go for 4050 budget laptop
How about lenovo loq?
How much is Acer Nitro 16 where you live? Here in Europe it costs 1.5k+ € with a 4060.
