    I have a Winchester 94 XTR in .30-30win made in 1979
My father has a Glenfield 30A (336 variant) in .30-30win, this originally belonged to my grandfather who’s wife (my grandmother) bought it in 1971 at Sears

Very awesome. Glenfields were made by Marlin for department stores. Such awesome rifles. Thank you for watching.

Had to sell my 1978 Marlin 336 back in the '80s when times were tough between jobs. I just bought it back (same year) through a gun broker auction. Paid four times as much as what I paid originally, but I'm happy.

As long as you are happy. Yeah you probably sold it for about $200 in thr 1980s. Lol. Wish it was still like that. Thanks for watching

My hunting buddy had an unfired Marlin in .356. He passed away and the family sold it to a gun shop, before I knew they were selling it. It was beautiful, it still had the original Marlin tags hanging from the leaver. 😢

In 1978 I wanted to purchase a lever action .30-30, and objectively looked at both rifles. Once I held and cycled the action of each, my decision was an easy one.
The Winchester '94 was a lighter and well made gun, but I preferred the Marlin 336 hands down.
Not only did it feel better and more solid, but its design made more sense to me. I don't like the Winchester's top ejection one bit, and I find the way it dumps its guts when cycling the lever annoying. The overall look and quality of the Marlin stood out as well.
I still have that model 336, as well as 4 other Marlin lever guns of various calibers. All were made in what I consider Marlin's finest era of 1972 through 1982. If I was to buy another today, it would be from that same era in excellent condition. Something I'm willing to pay up for.
As a side note, Marlin made plenty of 336s with straight stocks. In fact, I ran across a great pic of actress Linda Evans holding one in the late 60s when she was in the cast of The Big Valley. Obviously the rifle wasn't period correct for the show's timeline, but most people wouldn't be aware of that.
It was the same with Chuck Conners' Winchester '92 in The Rifleman, in which the show's setting was 1881. But that's television, eh?

@@TerryBenton Trust me, they're not going anywhere. I'll have them and all of my other guns 'til the day I die, and then my kids will have to deal with them. 😁

Just a quick correction. You insinuated that Marlin started chambering the 30-30 in 1948 when it came out with the 336 in 1948. I am sure it was unintentional as it was more than 4 decades before that. When they came out with the 36 in 1936 it was chambered in 30-30 from the beginning. My father’s old 36RC being a personal example.
On a side note, I know the popular thing is to say the 30-30 killed more deer than any other cartridge, but I I think it’s more meaningful to say it fed more people than other cartridge.

Thank you for the info. Itnwas intentional. I meant the 336 alone. I like the fed more folks tha killed. I agree
