The only thing I think of when I see this and "Genie in a Bottle" is...whoever was behind Christina's whole debut...knew EXACTLY what they were doing. Image-wise, musically, song-wise etc. And vocally, she was just a bombshell.
You just had to be there in 1999, but I'm telling you....I think her first two singles solidified her as basically a legendary pop singer.
It was so SPECIFIC, and exactly...right. After this song, people knew and would never forget who she was. She was in the zeitgeist of pop culture after this.
Her voice is so strong, so melodic - bordering on operatic In fact, I think should she have chosen to do so, could have easily gone into the opera genre. What a talent! what an absolute golden talent this woman has. 1999 was indeed an amazing year!

I remember how growing up, my mom would always blast this around the house when we would clean, Christina was one of her favorite artists of the day. And I used to ask her if I could go on the family computer and watch the video for it and she'd get mad at me and tell me no 'because it was too inappropriate for me.' I was only like, 4 or 5 at the time. Now as an adult, I realize that this video is so tame compared to the American shit that's being produced today... so many good memories tied to this song! ❤
And suddenly I'm in third grade again. The 90s were the shit.
At the very least, I'm so glad they showcased her vocals. Not all of the 90s pop stars were able to use their voice to their fullest and it's sad. ❤️
