I work as a concession stand worker for the Chargers, and let me confirm to you that the only reason why food is so expensive is because they are indeed ripping you off. The games are at least 3+ hours long, people are gonna get hungry and we don't allow outside food in the stadium, so you gotta buy our food to eat. They also jack up the prices from other sports. For example, I also work LA Galaxy games. Galaxy drinks = $5/small, $6/large. Charger drinks = $6.50/small, $7.50/large. Same drinks, higher price. That's why I tell my folks to eat out first before going to the games.
*Also, "fresh" popcorn is just reheated popcorn in a warmer from 2 days ago, we don't actually cook anything, we just put it in a warmer, the hot dogs are frozen and reused on another event if not sold at the previous one, most of the food barely passes health code, etc etc* Concession secrets.
Don't buy concession food. It's pure overpriced shit.

In 1977, the Red Sox signed relief pitcher Bill Campbell to a free agent contract (one of the first they ever did), and raised ticket prices to pay for him. (Their only income was from Fenway Park, and broadcast licensing by Channel 38: 130 games on FREE TV !!!). Anyway, Red Sox fans were not happy. One fan hung a big sign that said, "RELEASE BILL CAMPBELL, AND BRING BACK THE $1.50 BLEACHER SEAT !!!" That line gets funnier and funnier with each passing year.

  • @tbirum
    @tbirum Před 5 lety +154

SIMPLE FIX!!!, do not buy anything once you enter the stadium. IF everyone said, "We are not going to pay those prices!!", then 1 of two things happens, either the prices for concessions go down OR the price of tickets go up, IF the ticket prices go up then don't buy a ticket to go to the stadium, IF they start to black out the games on TV due to not selling out the stadium, go to a sports bar and watch the game, IF the NFL starts telling sports bars they can not televise the games (Which the NFL has done in the past) simply boycott watching the games, then the NFL will have to chose, lose Millions and have to shut down, OR lower the prices on concessions AND not raise the ticket prices.
BUT this entire post is meaningless because no one will listen, and people will still choose to pay 8 dollars for a beer and 6 dollars for a hotdog.
ME? I watch the game at home (best way to watch the game) no line at the bathroom, no parking fees, no profanity laced rants by fans (except by me!) the only BO/Farts I smell are mine (and they are glorious!) and any time I want a snack, the fridge is just 10 feet away (again no lines) OH and did I mention, I don't have to pay 50-100 bucks for a ticket!!!?

At Chase Field where the Diamondbacks play you can bring in food and water. We bring in snacks and frozen water. They also have a TGI Friday's. I'll go in the restaurant and buy my food there. The prices are no different than if you were to go to one somewhere else. I will buy an over priced beer.
I can't speak to where the Cardinals play. I'm sure it's quite different. The Diamondbacks stadium is in the heart of Phoenix, there's tons of food and drink competition. The Cardinals stadium is in the middle of nowhere.
That's why when the Super Bowl is played in Phoenix the city looses money. All the parties and events are held elsewhere. Mainly Scottsdale. Places like Scottsdale get all the fun money and the city of Glendale has to pay all the costs .

I'd be selling a regular hot dog for like $4 a dog in a new venue (PETCO Park) as well as a venue that the Spanos ownership allowed to fall into disrepair (Qualcomm Stadium). Granted this was before the aforementioned 2011 CBA with the NFL and NFLPA, though.
Also, I worked other venues in San Diego County and the prices were pretty much the same regardless of product.

Or if somebody else had a cup they paid for, for a coke say, when they're done with it take it to get filled with water. How much you want to bet they start asking questions like Did you pay for that beverage in that cup? or better yet, "they don't give free refills".

As long as you ate there before the game, you could park for free. Every time we’d go to a game, we’d get Crown Burger and walk to the arena from there. A lot more food for the money, and much better tasting besides. We might get drinks or even some popcorn at the game, but that was dinner and parking sorted out.

There's always hot dog stands outside stadiums/arenas, grab a dog or two for a few bucks each before you go in. If you can't go without eating for 3 hours at a game you probably have other issues at play. The outside dogs are always better than the inside ones anyways

I was at Saputo Stadium in Montreal, I bought a hot dog and a beer, and the total was 17 Canadian dollars. On the menu it said the hot dog was 5 dollars. No way the beer was 12. And the hot dog was tiny burnt crisp industrial bread with a tiny sausage in it. There was no ketchup, mayo or anything. Really makes me angry. If anyone at CF Montreal is reading this, I want my money back NOW!!!!!

Guys, this video forgot to show that the referees from their last lockout in 2012, they get to get some cut into the sales of that.
Pretty soon cheerleaders will demand some income from those concessions cause they're all complaining they're not getting paid too much.
Then the mascot performers might want that too, even though they make pretty good money.
Then the stadium staff like the ushers and security might want a cut too.
So things are gonna get worse...by 2030 a beer at an NFL game will be $20.00 cause of that stuff.
