    Admittedly, I forgot how to do a gradient mesh. So let me start off by saying thanks for the tutorial. What I do remember from school is that we kept the mesh on top of the image. That way, we could sample each color right at the intersection for a more detailed result.

    3:05 OR whatever colour the layer is when you make it, as the guide colour is determined by the layer number. Though you can change the guide colour whenever you want by double-clicking on the layer and choosing the colour you want from the drop down. A Cyan would work well on a darker colour like this aubergine.

    Quick question: When creating the mesh, is there a way to draw the lines by yourself? Let's say with the pencil tool?

    • @GDHT
      @GDHT  Před 4 lety

      Not that I'm aware of - I think Illustrator makes a 'best guess' based on where you click.

    • @glennracoma7481
      @glennracoma7481 Před 2 lety

      Don't think pencil lines will apply to the mesh. The mesh lines are, in their basic sense, control the spread of color inside each mesh space. The closer or tighter each mesh line is positioned determines how far apart the color will spread. So with less space between mesh lines, the sharper (less spread) color appears to have a sharper edge. Not sure if pencil lines would work that way with the grid being isolated in its own layer. Remember, mesh grids are functional only in their own layer. You could, however, draw with a pencil on a separate layer but still, it can't integrate within a mesh layer.

    There is a lot packed into this, really great. and moving one of the points on the edge, just messes up? . . . update: hold Shift, click and drag . But, How do you delete one of the mesh lines?
    In my version I can turn down the opacity if I select all (click & drag) so I don't have to move my work to the side.
    Zoom tip: Alt + scroll wheel. Thx

    • @GDHT
      @GDHT  Před 11 měsíci

      Thank you! You can delete a mesh line by selecting specific anchor points and deleting them. But it might not give you the outcome you want (I've had it delete more than just the line I wanted).

    Cool video. Quick question: is a gradient considered a raster effect ?

    • @GDHT
      @GDHT  Před 5 lety

      No, it will scale like any other vector. But other programs might convert it to a different shape - I think Acrobat changes it to a rectangle, maybe because it doesn’t know what to do with a gradient. But it is still a vector - it can be scaled to any size.

      @@GDHT Hello! When saving a file which contains different gradients, blend modes and opacities, is there anything particular that needs to be done to preserve those settings in a file to be uploaded for stock (e.g. flatten transparencies first etc)?

    • @GDHT
      @GDHT  Před 4 lety

      @@maddiem5921 Maddie M I think gradients will be fine, but the others; maybe not. You can save as EPS10 (that's what most stock sites require), then open that file and take a look in your Links window - if there are bitmap files in there, you'll have to change the way you created that part of the image. If you're saving as JPG or something like that, you won't need to worry about it, of course.
