I was working on a Chinese diesel engine in a generator today and it also had me scratching my head a few times... they have some interesting ideas thats for sure. Glad you got this one running, I built a stirling engine for a school project many years ago. I got mine running in the end by putting it over the flame on the gas stove. That gave me a good temperature differential lol.
I was beginning to think this would never run.
Merry Christmas Rob,really enjoyed the video .First time I have seen one of those engines running!
Thanks Joe. First time for me too. Have a great Christmas.
Cheers Rob
Ha, you did it Rob! You verbalized the correct incantations and broke the curse!
That is a neat little engine, thanks for sharing and Merry Christmas!
I think the allen wrenches may be a morale booster, you can lose a factory tool and not feel bad for the loss!
Congratulations on getting it to work, he says while bitting his lip. Merry Christmas!
That particular manufacture, needs to do a better job of manufacturing, especially, the flame licker engine which can be a bit problematic in manufacture and operation. But with that being said, they are unique. Happy to see you working to get it running and not giving up and throwing it in the trash can!
one shot for the tank one shot for rob ,thats where you got off the rail . merry happy to you thanks for sharing
HaHa. A guy at work took a swig of metho to see what it tasted like - nearly burnt his mouth out. LOL
I'l stick to beer thanks.
Merry Christmas to you and yours as well.
Cheers Rob
Yes pre-heating of the cylinder head is definitely necessary otherwise it will blow out the flame. Also flame position must be dead on or it won't run. Just to the left of the port opening is about right. The valve setting is as seen in the video where there is slight pressure/flexing of the spring at the cylinder head end.
I hope this helps.
Cheers Rob
Must say, for a 'ready-to-go' little engine that represents pretty fair value. Perhaps one or two things not perfect but still ...
Even this one would be quite a lot of work to make from scratch. They must have one super thin slitting saw for various areas.
The tweaks eventually hit pay dirt - joy -- pretty tricky to find the sweet spot... many matches later - I bet many non machinist folks would probably give up trying to set it right.
Perhaps an O-ring in the pot lid would be useful - just have a real mini hole for air bleed.
You really need a cheap lighter Rob!
Hi Chris,
There's a few things wrong with this engine. The fuel cap needs an "O" ring for sure, and the lid vibrates around, and the pot is so small the metho boils from the heat and flows out past the lid causing a fire - yep, it flared up after the video.
Plus the runout in the flywheel is bad. So these items are going to be addressed in a future video.
The previous Stirling engine was almost perfectly built, but this flame licker is no where near as good, even though it looks great.
The way they slit the bearing mounts was clever - must be a tiny saw.
I thought it was a simple build that could easily be copied.
Cheers Rob
I have the exact same engine, worked first time out of the box and still does, needs to warm up a little until it will start and i found the position of the wick to the port is critical
That one must have been blessed by the Pope.
At least you can proudly say that you got it to run rather than run out of the box which would be boring. Good on ya mate.
I wanna know what the efficiency percentage of this engine is...
4:03 it was at this moment i knew you liked it rob.
It sure looked nice :)
I have the same engine. And I went thru all the trials and adjustments you did. however, mine will only run for 3 or 4 minutes at a time. Then it quits until another day. It's pretty to look at tho.
Hi Shawn,
The fuel reservoir is too small and gets too hot, so it empties/evaporates out fast. My modification to the fuel pot fixed that, and it will run for a good ten minutes now.
Needs pre-heating to start.
Cheers Rob
What a great video 🖒🎅
I'm living that sh-02 life
Where is the fun if it works first time out of the box.
Cheers Eric
G'day Rob. I was certain from the first that you would get it running. Nice toy.
How’s the run out in that flywheel, certainly an exercise in patience to get it running.
Merry Christmas Rob, I’m in Adelaide this year for Christmas with the in-laws also an exercise in patience and tact 😳
Think I’ll be partaking in a couple of Cooper’s very soon.
Cheers
Ahhh yes, The Coopers. Pass the pale ale please.
That runout is terrible, and compared to the previous Stirling engine I reviewed this is quite crude.
I'm sure I can get this little jigger running better and truer, so down the track I intend to bush the flywheel centre and re-bore it true, plus chuck that strange spring on the crank centre and oil and line up a few things better.
I liked the way they mounted the main bearings in slit housings and a few other things.
Quite a few good ideas for model engine builders there.
Cheers Rob
Hi love your videos . What fuel did you use and have you tried different fuels ?
Thanks. I used methylated spirits (denatured alcohol). I have not tried anything else.
it's the position of the flame wick old man
the exaust blows the flame before the engine could get a flame in
Partly. You have to get the cylinder and port piston hot before this type of engine will run. Once the metho stops condensing out moisture it's good to go.
Flame position is certainly critical on these units.
Cheers Rob
How much doses it cost??????
keep your flame down ..... all hot air is going above the sĺit...
Two questions Rob . . . Did you read the instructions, and why not?
There weren't any.
I thought so.
Sir, I want to ask where to buy the machine? 🤔
Hi Aji. I see that Banggood no longer sell this engine, probably because it is not very reliable or easy to get to run. I don't see anyone else selling it any more as well. Cheers Rob
Spray WD40 into the inlet valve and it acts like Nitro boost...you can get about 6k revs out of it.
Very nice and wonderful engine. Can you tell me from where i got it. I want too buy the same engine .Please shere site address. I am from India.
Hi Vitthal. I got it from Banggood, but they no longer sell it. I don't see anyone selling it now. It was very temperamental to get running, so maybe they had bad feed back on it. Cheers Rob
nice engine but very difficult to set
You're not wrong there ;)
For some reason you will have to tell it wormed up
A spare motor for your Chinese lathe.
cheers for chasing this down. just sounds wrong tho. click clack click

You should trade those redhead matches in for some blonde ones. 😊😊😤
Because blondes have more fun.
I like redheads - hot babes.
One of my sisters is a redhead . . . and she's hot . . . tempered!
Yes, that seems to go with it.
But life is never dull ;)
Bad sistemy valve...
It live up to China standards. Looks are right but you haft to rebuild it first.
Not in all cases, but definitely this one. i actually had it running on the kitchen table today while I had a glass of red and considered my options for a Stirling engine I'm building.
Runs as sweet as you could wish now.
Worth the effort to sort it out.
Cheers Rob
